Homemade Disinfecting Wipes

  • It's easy to make your own disinfectant wipes at home. These are great when the stores are selling out because of the Coronavirus. It's also a convenient way to refill wipe containers so you can get more uses out of them. For these wipes, we used Bounty paper towels for the base since they are quite durable. They feel just about as strong as pre-packaged wipes. We used Lysol for the cleaning agent. Any brand will work but we wanted to make sure we had good disinfectant power. www.thriftyfun...

I do buy for someone that is down on their luck, I buy all there cleaning laundry products , and kitchen dish soap to help stretch there own dollar. I try to buy their pet food also. Just someways to help those in need.

    Hi! You can also use wet mop refills and add your own disinfectants to the already wet ones or use the dry ones and add your own mix in a reused container from old wipes. That kind of material holds up far better than paper towels. Also, you can get 15 in a pack at the dollar tree. There is other cloth like wipes of a similar material there and these can be cut to size and used the same way.

    FOR FUTURE REFERENCE:You must dilute , I know because I use Lysol all’ the time ...we just lucked out buying some to wash floors before this virus ..
    I personally , use 2 tablespoons of Lysol Liquid per qt spray bottle (Spray bottles can be purchased at $ 2.95 at Dollar General - the ones with the black spray work really well ). Or 4 TBSP Lysol Liquid yo a gallon (we use empty milk jug ) and fill with water ... I spray everything down then leave it sit for 6-8 minutes then wipe .. I would RATHER USE IT IN A SPRAY IT LAST LONGER - Thank you -God Bless us all 🙏🌎

      Stick with mother nature. Vinegar will be better in the long run. Superbugs/virus are becoming the way they are because of the chemicals we use. It is harder for a germ / virus to become immune to something that is naturally from mother nature. Like vinegar. Google it. Which has a half life of 3000 years. It really is bad stuff. Don't use bleach.

    • @thriftyfun
      @thriftyfun  Před 4 lety +2

      The only thing I would be concerned with is mixing cleaners that can cause a toxic gas. For example, it is best to not mix bleach with other cleaners unless you know for sure it is safe.

    • @chrisperez4199
      @chrisperez4199 Před 4 lety +4

      ThriftyFun thank you for responding. I actually didn’t use bleach to mix in with the cleaner of the wipes. The cleaner that I used is a multi-purpose cleaner just like the Lysol one that you used in the video. I believe the disinfectant wipes that dried out haven’t been used for over 2 years so any cleaning product wouldn’t create any dangerous gas. I felt like I didn’t need to mix any other cleaning products, such as bleach as I felt the multi-purpose cleaner was enough for the wipes. So far the wipes have been working great and haven’t even dried out 3 days ago since making this comment. Once again appreciate you responding back! :)

    • @thriftyfun
      @thriftyfun  Před 4 lety +10

      Yes it is. This is from the CDC "Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted. Prepare a bleach solution by mixing:
      5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water or
      4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water" www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/cleaning-disinfection.html?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fcommunity%2Fhome%2Fcleaning-disinfection.html

    • @suzanneemerson9787

      See the Clorox website for using their products as disinfectants for corona virus. They give instructions for mixing your solution based on exactly which Clorox product you are using, as they vary in potency. Search for the product you have by using the number below the bar code on the label of your bottle. Time it needs to be left on a surface to be effective is given, depending on exactly what you’re using. Also, they say you must mix fresh for every use, not pour in a box of paper towels and save. Homemade wipes apparently become less effective over time, and won’t do the job even if stored in a tightly sealed container. I didn’t know that. Now I mix my solution for the day in a spray bottle, clean surfaces with soap and water first, wipe dry with a clean bleached towel, spray with Clorox solution, and let it sit for the required number of minutes before finally wiping dry again with paper towels. What a pain.

    I don't have much Lysol, its a all purpose cleaner which we use for floors too diluted. Incase i Mix it with water instead of using 1Lr. which is 32 ounces, will that be ok ? any suggestions ?

      I don't think that would be effective

      According to the introductions & specifications ... diluted Lysol purpose cleaner is enough to disinfect surface by soaking área & let it dry at least 10 m before cleaning .
      It’s like Clorox u need to diluted if not it’s a over kill

      I have had this in the box shown for over a month and they are still moist. So far I am pleased with the outcome.

    I would rather use lavender soap , coconut oil, and tea tree oil. Healthier.

      Yes. I agree. It would be better in the long run to use those items other than something chemically man-made.
