A boycott is looking real good.
Years ago, my brother-in-law, who's a defense attorney, was telling me a story of one of his friends, who's also a lawyer who was leaving a clothing store and was stopped by security. They demanded to see his receipt for his merchandise. This isn't a Costco's or a BJ's or some other membership store, where the fine print says you agree to show your receipt when you leave. He asked why was he being asked when no other shoppers were. He asked if it was because he was black and that he just wanted to leave. They told him he couldn't leave. He then asked, "Are you holding me against my will?" That question should have scared them, but it didn't and they said yes. He said, "fine". Sat down and waited as they called the cops. The cops came, he showed his receipt to them and was allowed to leave.
The next day, he sent a letter to the store's offices with his law firm's letter head stating what had happened and that he was kidnapped by store employees and that he was planning on suing. They quickly cut him a check for $5K. This isn't complicated. If you're going to stop someone and accuse them of theft, you better damn well have evidence of said theft or you're exposing yourself to a lawsuit. And I get it, there's so much theft these days. We've seen the many videos of kids doing smash and grabs, just walking out the store with items, etc. You want to stop that? Get someone in the back watching (and recording) everyone and radioing to actual cops, "Yeah, the guy in the gray sweater, he stole a pair of pants AND WE HAVE THAT ON VIDEO!" Anything else, where you're just randomly stopping people with no evidence? You'll just drive legit customers out the door.
K but what if you went in and didn't find what you want. How do you leave?
Stop at the customer service counter, and tell them that you didn't find what you wanted, so you have nothing to check out. 🤗
I have seen so many people steal. Why not?
It is the stores who have "Organized" gouging the average people. They should organize themselves and hire more cashiers instead of self check-outs. They should also massively lower their prices.
Self checkout was a bad idea from the get go. If you are stopped on your way out of the store, and told to scan your reciept, without physical proof that you had done anything wrong, that is illegal on the stores part. Just say that is illegal.
What about Costco?
Costco is a membership store@@katydai
Isn’t it a fire hazard to keep the doors locked? What happens if there is an emergency?
In the case of emergency usually the systems turn off
Whatever if you haven’t stolen anything than just scan. We’re paying more for shrink.
I would go and fill my cart up with exactly what I want pay for it and then if they want me to scan my receipt I would refund everything
Organized crime indeed! Get rid of self-check outs and hire more cashiers, the cheapskates!
Costco literally has a person who does this since forever
Costco has too many people who got nothing except to bother customers , for example- checking your membership card while going in, but then they have to check in again when you get to self checkout, to let you self checkout, sometimes some one would come in between your self checkout to ask about your membership, then again while leaving store.
Sam's club better
I wouldn't mind if people stopped me and checked my receipt after grocery shopping. This would help keep theft crimes low and reduce the likelihood of theft occurring, such as someone parking next to your car and breaking in.
What in the world does a reciept in the store have to do with someone breaking into a car in the freely-accessed parking lot outside?
Why the whinging? If you’ve been honest and scanned your items then why be worried when you scan out??
Receipt scanning work 100% all over Europe. Get over it!
People are such Karen's. People should stop acting like children and start acting like they have an ounce of maturity in them.
I wonder why maybe hire more people and less so-called AI robots to do the job
Eh I’m not a criminal so I wouldn’t mind taking two extra seconds to scan my receipt
They already do this at Sam's Club in the United States. I think it's a wonderful idea personally.
Let's see, nonsensical laws by a dominant figure, hmm....where have we experienced that before?? False accusations....hmm ....where....oh where?
Stop being petty. If you owned the store and were having tons of thefts you'd do the same
@@Avsfan23 you're hilarious....you should have a comedy program.
@@PancitSuperstar Try a better comeback dude
@@Avsfan23 😂😂😂😂😁
@BurntYellowSkinTruth That's better but you don't quite have it yet
I love the self checkouts, I'm faster than most of the cashiers. I will never stop using them. I also understand trying to stop theft, if you have nothing to hide then what's the problem. Costco has been checking receipts for years so where's the outrage there? Is Costco engaging in citizen's arrest then?
Costco is a membership store.
