  • @adamsalyce
    @adamsalyce Před 8 lety +84

    I'm trying to think of the significance of George Eliot's death, or more, the style of her death. Dostoevsky was murdered with an axe to the head, a reference to the murder in Crime and Punishment. Mary Shelley was electrocuted, playing on the zap of life needed for Frankenstein's monster. Louisa May Alcott dies of coughing, mirroring Beth's death. So, how does Eliot's death by portrait fit in?
    Having only read Middlemarch, I do remember paintings, specifically a portrait, being important to the lead character Dorothea. In the novel, the portrait symbolises her love for another man, Will, who she can only be with if she gives up her inerited fortune from her dead husband. In the end she does, happy to be herself and with the man she loves.
    When Eliot in Poe Party finally admits she is a woman, it is the first time we see her as herself. It is only because of the portrait (which in this case has unfortunately killed her), but both portraits give them the strength to be their true selves. IDK????
    Or I'm completely pulling this out of my butt and Eliot was actually chopped down in the prime of her life by a rogue scenic painting.

    The funniest thing to me about this series is that half of the writers weren't even alive at the same time. They didn't write about a group of authors who were all friends (though some of them did know each other). Each character was specifically chosen.
    Birth and Death Dates
    Mary Shelley 1797-1851
    Edgar Allen Poe 1809-1849
    Charlotte Bronte 1816-1855
    George Eliot 1819-1880
    Fyodor Dostoyevsky 1821-1881
    Emily Dickinson 1830-1886

    Just going to throw this out there since I haven't seen it yet, but if there are red herrings/ fake deaths then Eddie has GOT to be a suspect! He has a motive to kill basically everyone based on their past experiences, and the "poison" that he had would have been the easiest to fake (no visible wounds). PLUS, they hid his body so quickly that he could have been getting around with that secret elevator this whole time. Also, "is this arousing or what?"

    I love the week-on-week build up to who-done-it expert Agatha Christie arriving, only to immediately kill her off. Brilliant writing.
    Even more brilliant is having George Eliot as a woman trying badly to get away with being a man, it's been one of the funniest things about each week.
    Here's who I think is doing it (as I've not seen anyone else write this): either Poe is doing it, kill off Eddie so he can be with Annabelle, and kill off all these other successful authors so he will be the best author around; or it's Leone, so she can be alone again with Poe.

    okay, am i the only one who's suspecting annabel/eddie? they're the only ones (besides lenore) who aren't based on actual people, and, well, they seem to be the ones people are least likely to suspect, particularly in-universe.

  • @zc5130
    @zc5130 Před 8 lety +18

    So with the (unconfirmed) death of Agatha Christie and George Elliot being smashed by a painting, it's looking a lot less likely that this is a parody of "And then There were None" (though keep an eye out for a faked death).
    As for suspects for this set of murders, assuming no faked deaths or murder contraptions, the only suspects for the murder of George Elliot could be Annabelle Lee, Hemmingway, Wilde, and Bronte. If George Elliot's (?) scream corresponds with her death, then Poe, Wells, Dickenson, and Lenore are all together and are cleared of this murder. I include Bronte with the suspects just because there's a mystery trope where a tied up person actually finds a way to commit the murder and uses being tied-up as an alibi.
    It's looking more and more like the people are dying in ways that were depicted in their books. If anyone can fill in the gaps, please help think through this theory.
    Dantes- Count of Monte Cristo?
    Alcott - Little Men? (Coughing)
    Shelley - Frankenstein (Presence of electricity)
    Dostoevsky- Crime and Punishment (Axe death)
    Christie - Murder on the Orient Express (Stabbed multiple times)
    George Elliot- ?

    Christie would make things too easy, wouldn't she? This is an exact parody of her famous "And Then there were None", at least in terms of plot set up. Prestigious guests invited by a mutual friend/sender anonymous, getting offed one by one as the night goes on, old nursery rhyme involved or not. And now two of my favorite authors are dead, both women as well, although George didn't reveal herself until her death rattle.
    Ugh! This is all getting rather ludicrous and horrendously dark... I love it.
