@@TheCrankshaftRotator there are not many photos of the ride with the propellers still in place, and this shows then still in prestine condition. Great video
There are conflicting reports about this. Some say it was never opened and some say it was only open a few hours to keep people from wondering during the evacuation.
It was scheduled to open on May 1st(for the May Day celebrations), days after the accident. I don't know if it was opened during evacuation, but it seems unlikely to me. I doubt anyone was in a playful mood at that point, and the soldiers were trying to move quickly.
The park it self was builed september last year. It was running from march till the disaster even everyone was remembering the lady who controlled the wheel and how she could areange the people well inside and had them constantly shaking and even was working hour before the evacuation till 13:00 on the 27th april
I understand the person who shot this archive, it was not easy for him to be alone for a few minutes, perhaps he felt as if he was the last person in this city when viewing this archive, I did not feel comfortable, but I always dreamed of being there when this city was
Pripyat, we never see this city [who borned after 86: 90's 2000's kids] like the cameraman who filming the city at sunrise. Who see the green clean Pripyat. Unbelievable
The paratrooper doesn't look very safe, I would hope it doesn't move too fast. I see no seat belts on these rides and those seats don't look very durable.
It was actually filmed back in June 1986 - just two months after the disaster (which makes it one of the first and earliest videos of Pripyat taken after the fateful 26th April). In 1987, there were already few sings of decay (ferris wheel started rusting already and the grass was much higher, due to not being mowed for a year).
@@diekatzefliegt It's okay, I never feel "insulted" when someone is just interested in credibility of stated claims. Firstly, this footage was taken by Soviet professor of nuclear physicist Valeriy Mikhailovich Starodumov - one of more known and decorated Chernobyl liquidators in Russia and Ukraine, who was also a chief of military dosimeter group responsible for taking radiation measurements through the city immediately after the disaster as well as through the few subsequent years. Starodumov filmed this on a sunny morning of June 1986 - less than two full months after the evacuation, using a very good camera for its time (thanks to which the footage isn't partially ruined by radiation exposure like usually and because of which the video looks like it's taken more recently, which makes it so unique when compared to all the other videos). Secondly, it can be pretty easily observed that the entire place is still completely preserved (practically in "untouched" condition), while in 1987, there were already few certain signs of decay - the grass became much higher due to not being mowed-down for a year (while here its freshly cut and gathered), the Ferris wheel and the other attractions gained a little rust already together with other damage and so on. This makes a logical conclude that this footage was without doubt indeed taken back in spring of 1986 - the very same year the disaster occurred. And last but not lest (which maybe represents the finest evidence of all) - there's the very same video on YT, but posted by another channel ("1986.04.26 Post Scriptum") under the title "Припять. Июнь 1986 (колесо обозрения, во дворах)", translated as "Pripyat. June 1986 (Ferris wheel, the parks") - a channel which is, by the way, a subsidiary channel of this one ("Telecon Studio"): czcams.com/video/lQ7Qng_pCxQ/video.html In any case, this is probably the only known footage of the amusement park which shows how the entire place looked like completely preserved, what makes this video so special and important for remembering the city back in its "golden age".
This video needs more views.
wow, the stuff looks so fun and colorful. go there today and its rusted and rotted out.
Wow I love the fact that old fair ground ride had propellers to spin it around, never seen anything like it before.
Thanks for noticing. Yes, it is interesting

I heard a mother once say "the kids had already rode on the rides anyway"...

The may day celebrations went ahead after the explosion, but the video footage was deleted, well most of it was, to cover it up.
Impressive video!!! Pripyat as it has been ... Nowadays the city consists almost out of wood.

It was briefly opened for the public in 1986, this is from when it was open for that brief moment
I'm getting confuse why the steer in the Bumper car still attract to the bumper car but in today now the steer are all broken
ShawnFlynn after the city was abandoned, vandals probably were fooling around and broke the bumper cars for fun
Was this video taken before or after the explosion
After

Does anyone knows, when the video was taken? Still on '86 or what?
I’m assuming 1986 still because it looks brand new
maybe some of the footage is from 1987
This was Probably Filmed in 1987
