What is even more ridiculous is that they are allowed to not answer questions. If they avoid answering, the question should keep getting repeated until they provide a straight answer.
At the end the question asked to the FBI director (Wray) was:
"You're saying *there was never any discussion by any of your agents* in any of these meetings *of constitutionally protected speech being taken down?"*
That's a question that only requires a one-word answer (Yes or No). Yes (i.e. there *was never any discussions* by agents) or No (i.e. there *was discussions* by agents). Instead Wray answers with the following:
*"To my knowledge, our agents conducted themselves in compliance with the law throughout"*
That is not an answer to the question he was asked. He was not asked if agents conducted them in compliance with the law, but specifically asked about whether there were any discussions about constitutional speech being taken down.
Paul then asks the other guy (not sure who he is):
*"You are not aware of your agents ever discussing any constitutionally protected speech with any of the social media companies?"*
Again, this is a question that just requires a one word (yes or No) answer. Yes (he is not aware) or No (he is aware). The question is specifically asking him *if he is, personally, aware or not aware." His answer is:
*"The same answer is as Director Wray provided to you,* ranking member Paul."
The "answer" that the Director gave (which was not an answer to the question asked to the Director) was that *Director Wray had no knowledge of* ...But the other guy was asked what he, personally, was aware/ not aware of therefore by him referring to the same answer that the Director gave is a reference to Director Wray's knowledge (or lack of knowledge) and therefore does not provide an answer about what he (the other guy) was aware/ not aware (had knowledge) of.

The key words "To my knowledge" means that even if it is proven false he can claim innocence by saying at the time I was unaware of that information.
When they say "I'm not aware of anything like that" means they know it's happened but they turn a blind eye!
