A Manila recycling centre is turning presidential campaign posters and banners into plastic bricks that can be used at schools, parks and other community projects.
Repurposing the posters prevents the plastics from ending up in landfills after elections.

Not just presidential. There's tons of posters for every person running for a government position. May be it local or national. Surprisingly in my city, they cleaned it up right away in 2 days time.
Yeah same, nawala lahat ng tarpulin ng kandidato dito
Di ko alam ganto pala gagawin nila, nakakamangha
@@icefire5115 if you have a president with iron will people will act
dahil pinag utos po yun ng dilg sa mga lgu na dapat 3 days after May 9, wala nang mga campaign material
Well at least they’re doing something that will help the environment rather than just leaving the posters everywhere. 😀 👍
Plastic Bricks become micro plastics, either ways it's not helping the environment.
It's the equivalent of shoving everything in your closet to make your room "look" clean.
@@thatguy5801 And how exactly you yourself for say, fix this kind of task, without burning carbon emission. Honestly I'm quite curious now. Do you mind if I ask for your proposed opinion.
@@gungatz6696 Very simple.... make political ads and posters ONLINE, on TV, on the RADIO, on CZcams, on Streaming Platforms why print 100,000 posters for something that lasts 1 week? You are here aren't you, there could of been a political ad as a banner. Stop being an idiot.
Yeah, that will help the environment very much. Plastic in a scattered form is being converted into a compact form, which will turn into microplastic..
For people that are concerned, these bricks are NOT gonna be used to build houses 😂 your house is ashes if that is caught on fire.
These bricks would probably be used in minor structures like sidewalks, in gardens, etc.
Ashes? Lol. More like hot sticky plastic melts. 😂
@@tyroneturbomax and what do hot sticky plastic melts make? Material that unbelievably lasts 1000 years because it's plastic.
But if composite enough, could last more from shock, impact, etc.
@@animeneweablet its been tested before it went to market it has a quality control😁
Politicians should be responsible for cleaning up their mess after the elections.
Why would they do that?
It gives them more publicity.

@@thegreataynrand7210 thats what they doing right now
I really want this to work, but as with other attempts to turn plastics into bricks, how is the reliability of the bricks regarding microplastics? Is there any study about this?
Same what I was wondering about, but at least better than nothing.
Also, do take note that the brick was reheated or something, thus it might release some form air pollution?
Idk, I'll just wait for some scientist to reply what they think about this.
They are sturdy but I won't use them to build my house. Can't imagine what happens when it caught fire..
Some of them used in sidewalks
Probably not as a structural component.
I agree with your concerns, we can still use them for low risk constructions like sidewalks, gardens, parks or backyards
Aside from bricks, is it possible to make a plastic chairs using those posters?
We need recycled plastic chairs in every public school rather than wood chairs to lessen cutting tries like Acacia and Narra.
That’s what Eat Bulaga did several years ago. I wonder why they stop that project. Turning plastics to school chairs

Finally somebody made an idea out of this
"How many posters you want on this small street?"
"Yes"
Candidates would do A N Y T H I N G to get the votes of the people
That has always annoyed me, so I made it a rule that if I see a candidates poster in one wall or fence more than 5 times I don't vote them...
Wow! 🙌 Kudos to this Brilliant idea to reduce plastic waste pollution.
Tama po
Candidate are recycled too😏

Nice joke
Really innovative way to reduce waste. Filipinos are progressing rapidly in every sectors

@@2spooky4tim45 you talking about the recent elected president?
@@ExpressThyFoolishness yes
No, not really

This is actually genius
Finally. A Filipino acting on recycling management.
Pollution aside, imagine the huge amount of money that goes into making those posters and buntings.
Filipinos are smart, talented, and very resourceful. Many inventions have been made years before like the fluorescent lamp. However, there were little funds for scientists and inventors that's why some Filipinos sold their inventions to other foreign companies that may benefit them.
Huwag masyadong papuri sa social media lumalaki Kasi ulo ng mga overly proud Filipino
Indeed, less money for scientists and inventors, but more money for politicians.
Agapito Flores was born in 1897. The first patent for the fluorescent lamp was on 1901.
You mean to tell me a four-year-old patented the fluorescent lamp? Hate to break it to you, but a Filipino did not invent the fluorescent lamp
Not all, I PH, not all
@@handmeadozenbeers8655 I stand corrected. Thanks. But a Filipino created a bulb or lamp. It was in textbook years ago.
My point is most or some scientists were not appreciated much or given attention to so they were kinda deciding to sell their invention somewhere else. 🥲
campaign posts should be just ruled to 1 in one street or area, not 100 down one street of the exact same thing.
There should embrace waste to energy too.
Incineration is technically banned in the Philippines since 2000. Unless that law is repealed, it's next to impossible.
You guys are awesome!
Bravo! Smart move. This will minimize pollution.
Those posters could probably be used to make plastic chairs and table for schools
Wondering how paper can turn into ceramic. Before watching this, I was like how is this possible?
Well if you know science
It's really possible not only in the Philippines but in some countries
I watched another video where they put oil and shredded stytofoam into the shredded tarpaulin campaign materials to create those bricks.
It isn't paper, I believe these are vinyl banners.
Those posters are not made of paper.
Hopefully this becomes a long term occurrence and an effective one!
We should do that in Mexico!!!!
Really, it's amazing.
Proud to be Marikeño!❤️
Cause remember, a lot of folks just burned waste plastic. Turning it to bricks reduces the space they take, gives them proper use one more time and then it can be buried in the future when it isn't needed anymore.
Brilliant.
Smart move but it reminds us the wastage of holding such election if the outcomes doesnt satisfied all parties.
In some countries those blocks can be really useful to rioters.
someone trash is another man's treasure
For once posters were useful
Now thats more like it!
Nice 👍👍👍 I hope for more of this work in the PH. :)
i think it's better to make tables and chairs to be used in public schools
At least those useless things can be used now.
when election posters r more useful then the politicians
Great journalism 👍
Very cool!
I'm surprised the president allows this to happen. Aren't they basically turning posters with his face on them into bricks?
But that's the point, the election is over, and it's better to turn them into bricks rather than to just throw them in the trash.
Well the the election is over
@@lan2documentarychannel989 Yeah but they still have his face on them

This is a wonderful idea. I hope others copy what they are doing.
Finally we can see progress
I don't understand why politicians still use these kind of posters, I don't personally think it's necessary anyway. Yeah it's true that posters "could" promote someone, it's not even assured since they are just politician's photo plus their names, that's it. It's already a resource use and can clearly cause more pollution, I doubt every single poster that were used are retrieved. I don't wanna be too negative about such thing, I also am a Filipino btw and posters just don't appeal to me in any dang way. or maybe they are actually necessary? Someone enlighten me
Imagine having a fence then all you see inside the fence are just faces of the presidents
Welp there is no recycling centre in my area, so I guess those posters are still trash
Galing Naman!
Brilliant
Oh is there a link where I can buy them?
Looks like Morroccan Zellige tiles.
Judging from the campaign candidates... This is from Marikina, not Manila, Philippines.
Unfortunately, this isn't Manila. That's Marikina.
Yeah the shoe factory
in provinces where those machinery doesnt it exists, people started collecting it and make it as a small pond for fresh water fishes (pet), stall roof for street vendors, and for some they used it as roof for small huts.

It would be better if they use this for bicycle infrastructures. There are many bicycle accidents happened in the Philippines every year.

There’s a better way why use these banners in the first place use digital screens on pools and big buildings that is better. In Pakistan in most of the big cities plastic is illegal I have only seen most of the adds on these digital tablets.
Using of plastics in the PH is banned/discouraged too that's why when doing groceries they pack your grocer in a carton, paper bag, eco bag or better yet bring your own reusable bag. These posters are traditional, the campaign team have budgets for these and using of digital screens isn't smart either because you use electricity and you have to pay much compared to printing these tarps..
Wowwwwwww👍👍👍👍👍👍
The people behind that trash should collect and recycled it in the first place.
