JDMSPEED N55 ALUMINUM VALVE COVER UPGRADE- WATCH FOR TIPS AND REVIEW

- I upgraded my old JDMSpeed plastic valve cover with their Aluminum valve cover. This is not a how-to video on the valve cover replacement, but rather a list of important tips and highlights, plus a review of the new JDMSpeed Aluminum valve cover. My plastic one developed cracks in the vacuum canister, so the vacuum chamber was FULL of engine oil (a little oil is normal- this was FULL). I hope it helps you on your valve cover or valve cover gasket replacement!

I have the ECS version. I had to clean 2 small burrs, nothing major. I did use an OEM Gasket instead of the included one. 4 months and counting. No leaks..
oh dang I didn't even know ECS had one! Awesome! I just used the gasket supplied, but TIME will tell if it is any good or not lol.
@@turbospoolhow has it held up?
thanks for sharing mate..the local distributor was ripping us off.. SGD $580 for the original Engine valve cover..
Oh wow! Glad you found this video then! I get a business has to make a profit to stay open, but wow that’s a lot of gross profit they added to it!
Man!!!!! I love this. You always got me spending more money!
Thanks man! And it’s a great value part. Cant beat what it brings for the money
Excellent, looks gorgeous. I hope the gasket is a quality one
Thanks! It sure FELT that way, but only time can tell on that one. I'll keep my eye on it.
I came across this thing but was a bit skeptical as it seemed really cheap compared to the other metal valve cover alternatives for the N55. Impressed by your knowledge in the video, you have gained a subscriber.
Thanks for providing content in the F10 N55 world!
Awesome and thanks for the sub! I hot more parts sitting waiting to go on so stick around if you find it useful !
Nice! Appreciate the tips on the hardware. I got the aluminum valve cover for mine too and I’ll be tackling that in the next couple days as well as the intake manifold gaskets, ofhg, plugs and some Dinan coils!!
Dealing with some weird throttle issues feeling like the car is being held back under light throttle. She’s got some leaks too so I figure may as well go through it and knock out these maintenance items and hopefully have her back running 100%!!
Oh heck yea! You got some good maintenance going on. That's excellent!! One tip just in case you have not come across this- After replacing the OFHG be sure to do the engine oil priming procedure (very easy, I just unplug the ign/inj harness connector at the rear of the DME, then give it one long crank, let it sit like 10-20 seconds, then 2 short cranks. Connect the plug at the DME back on, clear the codes, and you should be safe to start then)! This is very important. You want to get the air out of the oil circuit before you go start the engine :-) .
Hopefully this takes care of that roughness you're feeling! After you do it all, you can also try the throttle adaptation procedure. Forgot how to do it but it's easy and there's How-To vids on here for it. Good luck!
@@turbospool Yes thankfully I’ve came across a few videos and posts on the oil priming procedure, Definitely the most crucial part of it all!!
I’ll probably do the throttle relearn as well. Thanks for the tips brother!
@@DMoney505 fo sho! Good luck
That looks nice and I always wonder why everything in BMW is plastic. I guess those engineers over there was told to save every ounce of weight. I need to replace the one on my N55 E70 soon. The whole vacuum side galley is filled with oil. I am looking into this cast aluminum now that I see how it looks on the engineer bay. Any issue so far ? Thanks for sharing this I been looking to see if anyone has it.
Nice! No issues! Has been solid since day one thankfully
I’m about to purchase the same one and replace the valvetronic actuator gasket aswell
You wont regret it! Im still smiling when i pop my hood and see it.
@@turbospool did you figure out what the hex bolt is for yet?? I spent 400 on my wife’s x3 valve cover with lifetime warranty and decided to go your route for mine. Thanks for the layout of the bolts. I put them in place already and also was checking to see if I got all my bolts in the bag. My wife actually thought the aluminum one was more expensive by the look and quality. Looks more amazing in person!
@@freddieruger1 nice!!! And dude no i did not 😂 it just stayed in the bag and it’s in my workbench now. I found no need for it. So many in other platforms that use the N55 it gets used. But it was not needed on my F10
@@turbospool I’ll keep you posted when I get mine installed on Wednesday for that mystery bolt😆
Looks good. Did you keep it with or without cover. Also how has it been in the month. Any leaks
I actually WANT to put the cover back on just to decrease all the fine dust build up from living in Oklahoma. I just have to modify it to clear the new routing of my vent lines from the Bimmerhaus Performance intake. And zero issues with the VC! No leaks and the clear cost finish is intact despite the heat cycling .
hows the pcv system on that metal valve cover? I dont have a catch can and not sure if i should do one and where to get a good one.
great video btw!
Works identical to the stock one. But it’s actually serviceable if you have to change out the diaphragm in the future. So no need to cut it and JB Weld like in the plastic ones
@@turbospool ty! This is excellent news!
@@Jet3ch yea I’m definitely impressed by this VC! They did well with it. And for the price- it’s incredible value
I have a dumb question the valley on the passenger side with 2 nipples and the hose is that needed on ewg cars or just on pwg cars
Not a dumb question at all. So BMW uses the same exact VC assembly for ALL N55s- be it PWG or EWG. This Aluminum one is based on that design so it can fit all applications. On EWG those two nipples are simple not used. Doesn’t hurt anything as that is just going to the vacuum chamber that’s integrated to the underside of the VC. EWGs don’t use that at all so you’re good.
@turbospool i only ask cause i just installed mine and now have a vacuum leak i cant find 😪
@@microgammer4473 oh no! Do you have a smoke tester?
@@turbospool in making one tonight
I should have to looked into this 😅 it’s 1/10th the price of the one from VTT and M18 🥺
1/10th?!? fudge!
@@turbospool Isnt that absolutely a violation? 🤣
@@Respect_N55 no kidding!
This makes me happy to know. Is the aluminum cover finished or raw? I’d love to paint it!
Unfortunately it has clearcoat over it , so you would have to sand that down prior to painting. Sorry for the sad news! Lol i wanted to paint mine too until I saw that.
@@turbospool oh man, that sucks lol. But I think I’m about todo the same thing to mine. Whoever owned the car before me did the pcv replacement but didn’t clock it right so it’s randomly getting the screech of death haha.
@@chrispowell6633 oh no! Yea that’s annoying and it makes the car run like poop. Good luck getting it back to 100%!
@@turbospool thanks man! Keep up the good content 🤙🏼
hey brother how's the valve cover holding up so far?
It’s been great! Looking good and working as intended
@@turbospool no problems with the bolts or gaskets it came with?
@@Nolimitf22 correct. All working as intended so far
Was your n55 consuming oil with the crack vacuum valley?
Sorry what are you referring to as the crank vacuum valley? I tried googling it and did not find anything named that.
@turbospool sorry , the chamber for the vacuum, you said you had an internal leak
@@Hennessyr24 ah yes! So i looked it over and I couldn’t see any cracks. But I also didnt take the time to clean it and shine a light to it to check. I just didnt see any obvious cracks. But micro-fractures could cause all this and not be easily visible. And the integral vacuum canister was FULL of oil. As you notice on the video I had tipped over the old valve cover to check the canister and oil had poured out of it.
@turbospool on my second valve cover this year, both elring brand with oil in the vacuum chamber , dripping oil from the boost solenoid and consuming about 1qt per 1k miles. Before the n55+ turbo up
grade It Didn't consume any oil in 5k intervals, maybe 🤔 is the higher boost . Just replaced the vacuum pump valve ,the diaphragm was gone hopefully that solve my oil consumption.
@@Hennessyr24 wow!! Yea that’s a lot! If the new vacuum pump does not fix the issue, i recommend you do a compression test. It’s not a common issue with N55s but worth checking if this new pump doesnt fix it
