A generation now brought up on techno acid all computer generated , song by different singers all sound the same. What they are used to. 60s and 70s had such variation and talent never to be seen again!
i read an article once, from a bloke who's job was to clean up after concerts, he said after a Mark Bolan gig the floor was covered in discarded wet knickers and pints of piss. lets face it, Mark had that magic quality, i wont name names, you know who they are! i am a "bedroom" guitarist with many weapons and pedals, but never found that "thin" light germaniun transistor sound that was so sweet in the '70s. probably need that one in a million guitar with magic pick ups ! thanks for reading.
He played quite simple, basic riffs but made them sound awesome. I love his spaced-out lyrics ("you've got the universe reclining in your hair") and it's just exciting to watch him on stage.
@@Meddled Sorry but I didn't realise that you had such a diverse catalogue of recordings and legions of followers 43 years after your death....basic? You probably think Jerry Garcia and Ace Frehley are stellar guitarist...tell me,where can I pick up some of your million selling recordings?
@@quazwasd4062the basic repeated augmented A chord and the "you're so sweet you're so fine" but Marc added the climb up as well as the c, Em, A progression and the descending riff after each verse. Certainly used the HWolf song as a foundation, but added some great stuff. There's a recording of Marc playing guitars at home with Roy Wood where he says he "nicked" Jeepster from Howlin Wolf, but I think he sold himself short in terms if what he added. Now I Love to Boogie he nicked certainly musically from Webb pierce, but I love Marc's cosmic surreal lyrics he changed it to.
Chippchipp, really? Radiohead have one song only which worth to listen ,, Creep ,, All their others are just sound as a GarageBand practicing in their home. I have one advice for you, look up Marc Bolans catalogue and then look up Radiohead’s . Marc written thousands of songs lyrics all worthy to read!!!
those days were classic...marc bolan straight up kicks ass out there..t rex and the 70s...cant reproduce this kind of music and feeling ever again.....it stands forever in the pantheon of rock n roll.. ..
omg! I love the bass player and wish the camera-person had focused on him too!! The song wouldn't have been as good without his talent. Great song & great video!!
Marc Bolan, such groove, such glam, such sex just drips from everything he did...had the pleasure to see him in June '72 in London, my main goal when I was there for just 10 days!! Sadly missed, but so fortunate to be able to pull up a video anytime...just imagine what could have been in the changin' times...Jeepster for T-Rex anyday!
Marc Bolan enlightened the world as to what a ROCK STAR was. I bought "Electric Warrior" in '71, while in Jr. High, and found out that 'Bang a Gong' was only a small amount of this man's talent. He was ahead of the times. It has always been a mystery to me, as to why Marc Bolan and TRex were not able to achieve the popularity in the U.S., that they did in Europe and elsewhere. Marc Bolan is MORE recognized NOW, for his talent and music, than he was during the '70s. I guess he was further ahead of the times than anyone knew.
The USA at the time were more into the Eagles etc Marc's style and Music was too early for them. Bowie made it because record company spent a lot of money promoting him.
First single I bought just before my 11th birthday for 50p its still one of all time faves so sexy so rockin so fabulous there will never be another Bolan
@@timmullens9479 I saw him live in Sydney, Australia .. I have to admit he was not all I was hoping he would be .. he was nothing like he is in this clip (if only he had been). Something was wrong .. I have no idea what .. drugs ?? All is forgiven though. I also saw Slade live .. Noddy Holder was high on drugs for the first half of the concert. He actually walked into the speakers. Fortunately in the second half of the concert he came good and was mesmerizing.
Marc invented or perfected so many rockstar moves, including the fish-face, and he's generally recognized as the originator of Glam.... by no less an authority than Bowie himself. Amazing when you consider that, at the dawn of the 1970s, Bolan transformed the gentle acoustic freak-folk of Tyrannosaurus Rex into the Electric Warrior Glam of T. Rex. Great stuff.
Originator of Glam? I think Lou Reed was doing it earlier, like in the sixties with Velvet Underground. HE is the one who influenced Bowie to go there!
Agree. I think T.Visconti was producing Bolan and Bowie at the same time, they were rivals when they first met, than became friends. Bolan was doing glam first. Lady Stardust is about him.
It was all the same period, Nobody came first or second. Its not the Olympic games! People of similar mind and taste influence each other sublimely> Thats how music scenes have always been. and not all the hippy acoustic stuff was gentle. Just listen to Bolans 3 or 4 albums from 1960's, Some full on bongo, guitar work, a bit like flamenco! It could be wild too!
I don't think Lou Reed was really Glam before 71 or 72 (Transformer didn't come out until late 72). Velvet Underground Loaded came out in late 1970 and that was decidedly not Glam. I think Marc Bolan deserves credit as the originator of Glam Rock.
A great song writer .I would say the songs were classics I still remember the first concert 1971 he give so much to my generation an many to follow the man is a legend
Unca Marc is usually considered the cornerstone of Glam Rock but somehow never acknowledged for his influence on Hard Rock and what would later become known as "Heavy Metal". Bolan could take a Boogie and beat the hell out of it🤘
As a 17yo kid. Bored with the self-indulgence bands of the late 60s. Was stunned at what happened. Was always great but he awoke me wanting something harder. Some rough nuts from up north suddenly released Cos I Luv you.. Great days.
Love the T.Rex fans that I am reading. I am from Los Angeles and in the late 70's and early 80's, I was the only one listening to Marc. It is really cool to see how many fans not only remember, but still support. Too bad the US just didn't get it!
They didn't but they didn't get punk or post punk either..that's why they say new wave in America. I saw T-Rex in Detroit with Roxy Music 1971..What a impression it made on a girl of 15. Fortunate and so so lucky. I'm grateful for being born when I was. Cheers to you
He's playing it like he's played it a million times & somehow trying to do something different with it, but still give fans the song they want to hear. Brilliant playing from him.

It was a tragedy when he died so young but when you look at it now Marc Bolan was never going to be old. He lives young forever
His Gf killed him
i'd do terrible things to be born at a time when i could've seen greats like Marc shine on stage
Jeezus, look at how much fun he's having!! If he was still around today, I think it's a safe bet he'd be doing the same

This is not only talent -this is called charisma.

A glam rock man if there ever was one. Rest in peace, Marc Bolan.
What a load of crap....
He was a peacock with no feathers....
Yes!
One of the horniest songs ever recorded! Marc was a writer of erotic poetry in many ways.
Good Lord he was awesome!
a brilliant, under-rated guitatrist.....
The total package here. Whoa! Bolan had it going on at this point.

Absolutely loving his life!!

You are right on amazing guitar player my Main Man for ever 👀💕 his sound, kalmiyheart
He could scarcely play guitar at all. Finn did most of the riffs. He had backing guitarists as well. Are you that fucking dumb?
Another dude that was way ahead of his time. Such a shame he was taken so soon.
+rodentcafeteria
I never understood the "ahead of his time" concept. Bolan was huge in his time. In another time he might have been ignored.
Nicolas Martin plus his music was mostly a throwback to the '50s with a few twee psychedelic things thrown in.
@@Meddled Two things are obvious here AI... one is that you don't play guitar, and two is that you haven't listened to much of his music....
