  • Riviere by Bates Smart is a textural and luxurious apartment block located above the Kangaroo Point cliffs with panoramic views of the Brisbane CBD and meandering river. Inspired by the Kangaroo Point cliffs, Bates Smart took to designing the residential building with a textural façade that represented the natural cliff face and form. By doing this, Bates Smart were able to maximise upon the views from all angles while also creating a textural approach on all exterior elements, which is then enhanced by a vertical breeze block. The inclusion of the breeze blocks allows for a sense of free space and flow of air that caters to the Brisbane climate. Meandering from the garden space into the lobby, guests are greeted by a luxurious hotel-like entrance space. Broken down into sections, the lobby is complemented with large ceiling heights, natural light, a meeting table, a conversation lounge and a residents’ cinema to the rear of the space.
Targeting its buildings towards all demographics, ARIA Property Group and Bates Smart did not focus on one particular area but multiple. Additionally, the ground floor is host to a small garden area with sculptural pods, a dinosaur dig for children and bee hives at the back of the site. Through the conceptualisation of the penthouse, Bates Smart wanted to create something that was truly unique to the building. From the first step into the penthouse, the architects have placed a circular vestibule that marks the delineation between the rest of the residential building. From this moment, there is a strong perspective that leads through the penthouse and down to the sleeping quarters. When entering the shared living spaces, the penthouse opens up to the Brisbane surrounds, however, with the addition of intentionally placed, textural screens, the home is completely private.
On the top of the building are multiple recreational spaces that bring the residents together and encourage a harmonious community. Among the amenities of Riviere is a rooftop pool, dining room as well as residents’ wine bar. While on the eastern side of the building, Bates Smart have placed a gymnasium and magnesium hot pool. Embracing sustainability, Bates Smart have placed plants upon the rooftop and covered the available roof in solar panels. Moreover, a high-tech irrigation system runs across multiple zones while planter boxes recapture any run-off water and recycle it back to the other gardens. Inclusive and timeless in its interior design and architecture, Riviere is a textural and luxurious residential building that offers something to everyone.

You have great functional ideas but this project could have been a little more glamorous and a little more colorful, even public areas of the project it's still kind of boring! Thanks for greeneries and other thoughtful elements!
