  • If you've ever wanted to learn how to make a crate cover for your dog's crate, this is the video for you! Sewing isn't my/our strength, so we show you some neat little tricks on how to sew a dog crate cover--even if you're not that great at sewing.
    Dogs are den animals, which is why some of them love being in their crates. But standard wire dog crates can be quite unsightly. From the first day we got Roadie, we realized that while he loves being in his crate, he prefers that it be covered so he can snuggle up, nap or just have some privacy--like his own little room. While we started covering his dog crate with a beach towel, we finally tired of the look and decided to make a crate cover that coordinates more with the living room. As an added bonus, we decided to make him a coordinating fuzzy crate pad, as he loves the fuzzy blanket we keep on the couch.
    We hope you enjoy the video! All of the materials we used to make the crate cover are listed below. And of course, drop us a question in the comments if there's anything you want to know.

    What a great idea! We’ve been using towels and blankets for our dogs crate as well. Might have to give this a try.

    I plan on making this plus a bumper for the inside too. So its super cosy. Like a cot bumper. Something to rest her head against.

    Brings back great memories. My mother did seamstress work and I often watched but I could never grasp how to do it. You did a wonderful job and clearly... the star of the video liked it , so that is what matters most.

      Thank you! It honestly takes me (JZ) a lot of brain power to sew something correctly. The precision needed is akin to that needed in baking - it's a science, not an art (and I'm not that good at science lol). However, with enough measuring and planning and really helpful tools, sewing projects sometimes turn out alright! I'm so glad you like it. :)

    It would be great if you could add some measurements in - like how much extra on top of the crate size to account for seam allowance etc

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the feedback (and for watching)! As we’re not super technical on the sewing side, we’ve always found how much to allow for seams to be a personal decision. That’s why we did this one by feel and kept putting the fabric on the crate to determine where to sew. 😉

    I'm guessing you used 60 inch wide material and then used the selvage to make up the inch for the crate. What material did you use and is it pretty breathable?

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! That sounds about right on the measurements. This is a lightweight decor fabric - it’s breathable enough without letting in too much light. With the back flap, the corners stay slightly open, and we never roll the front down, so there’s plenty of air circulation. Hope this helps!

  • @dandrew4938
    @dandrew4938 Před 2 lety +1

    The ribbon is bit tricky. If you only sewed it on the one side, how do you tie it up?

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před 2 lety

      Hi there! We sewed is through the seam so it’s on both sides.
