I think that's intentional. When he's on the toilet, he has a slight smirk while browsing the memes because they're mostly new and wacky. However, later on the yard (in the modern age of memes) they don't have a smile to represent the repetition that memes have; when they're scrolling down the meme page, they're seeing the same thing over and over again, and it is no longer funny. This is further backed up by the "Reddit Moment" which adds to the theme of repetition.
