it’s sad. instagram doesn’t show my photos to 95% of my audience. at 24k it’s wild to me…it once was a artistic platform where it was inspiring to be on and instagram would actually show your PHOTOS to people who follow you. not to mention if you’re a content creator making ACTUAL videos on instagram it isn’t worth it anymore cause the attention span is less than 6 seconds.
Hey Hanna, yeah your experience is and thoughts are pretty spot on. It's definitely morphing away from photos and straight towards video (mostly tiktok style at least for now)

The problem is the app is trying too hard to copy tiktok with the reel videos, and that’s another reason the app is dying. We already have an app for that! Not to mention the other downfall of IG was when they changed the algorithm

Reason of why I stopped paying much attention to Instagram 😢 the algorithm will keep changing to the direction that benefits the most to the company. They don't care about users but about money 🤑 that's all. Instagram used to be great before but now not much.

It should'nt be all about them and profit. It's just supposed to be a platform for sharing photos with anybody. Now it's all about them making more money? Ad mongering and selling people's information is NOT a good business practice. I see it as another form of theft. They sell YOUR info, but you don't get payed. They assume just being on the platform is your profit.
I wish there will be an app dedicated only for artistic content like photography, drawing, painting etc..

A lot of pages are just taking that still image of the photograph and converting it into a gif/video that is less than 1 second long.

Instagram decide everything and never care about their old time users. They’re feeding more than 50% suggestion accounts and I cannot decide what or who I want to see the content from. I hate being taken for their joy experimental ride and exhausted of constantly trying to pleased what they want. I QUIT!

Even with 10.9k followers i get only 300-400 likes and no new followers at all. Whereas meme pages continue to thrive. I don't understand

Here's my review I left.. before deleting the app.
"Scrolling now snaps on a per post basis in the latest update. So you can no longer scroll past multiple posts with a single flick of the finger. Forcing you to scroll by ads manually. Sending pictures and videos via messaging from your gallery compresses them terribly. The new layout sometimes covers the bottom text of the video with the video description. Wheras before the description was not overlayed on top of the post you'd be viewing. This was the final kick I needed to delete the app."
Not everyone wants to make TikTok videos or reels everyday so what the hell will happen to the entire user base of causal and private Instagram users! Instagram has lost the plot and is casing away their users 🙄

They've noticed Tiktok taking over and are now trying to be as addictive as tiktok. Not that hard to see through. I'm just shocked by how quickly they pivoted. They REALLY don't want tiktok to be the main thing.
LOL, you are absolutely right Connor, they've said that a few times that they're very aware of TikTok.
As of right now, the algo on TikTok is quite a bit better so we'll see what IG does.

Exactly, Facebook/Meta noticed the same when IG was blowing up so they first changed to be more similar to Instagram, then ended up buying Instagram. Started video when Snapchat got popular. Guess now they can’t buy tiktok so just joining them.

When exactly does the 16:9 photo format go into effect. I always plan my posts by formatting my original art (11x17") to Instagram 4:5 (8x10) ratio.
Right now they're just testing so it may, or may not get fully rolled out.

For me as a photographer carousels don't seem to perform better than single posts at all. Sometimes even worse.

I used to get up to 20k views and likes and 200 followers on my reels and that was before I started posting every day. Now I do post weekly and I'm lucky to get at least 1000 views wtf is happening.

My guess (certainly no expert) would be that instagram is showing your fans other content, from users that are growing and increasing the time people spend on Instagram

I just knew the comments section would be filled with the truth. Instagram is trying so hard to push positive publicity through bigger followers over why the platform is making users unhappy. THEY MUST LISTEN because tiktok is taking over!

I don't know how to explain this but can anyone help, instagram now has picture after picture on my feed but it is different then before, I can't see the comment that the author wrote underneathe the image, it is just picture stacked on top of another users picture in an endless column on my feed. It is hard to differentiate between accounts I am viewing on my feed as it is just piles of pictures in an endless column and nothing separating them (no white space like before and the account name is on top of the image now so that header which used to help diffentiate each post on a feed with account name and a white background is not there,) but I also can't see the authors comments or text they wrote on the feed ( I follow a lot of health info accounts and the authors comments that normally show below the image on the feed are important). If I click the little comment icon/ section it goes to their grid and the comment appears *over their image*. Also the slideshow function is different now too. A)does anyone know what I mean as I am not sure how to explain and b) is there anyway to reverse this presentation to the "old" way as I am really confused by it.

Hi Adam, I have over 100k followers on Instagram but i haven't grown now for a year. My views have slumped to something stupid like 100 likes. I do post stories too. I sell antique jewelry. Whenever I make a reel it is a disaster and even worse than just one standalone picture. I don't understand. One reel got only 20 likes. Most of my followers and my colleagues followers consist of people wanting to buy jewelry. They just want to see what they want to buy. They don't want to see me saying stupid things (some collegues have made silly reels out of desperation but they have not worked even when they are funny and with high production value) Do you offer any private tutorials??
Hi A.g. sorry to hear, yeah the algorithm is tricky sometimes. No need to post silly reels, but talking about what you do on reels would be a good next step. 1-2 a day.
@@Adamerhartvideo I really don’t want to be infront of the camera for jewelry security reasons, plus I hate my voice! I do a weekly blog on my website and link it to Instagram. During lockdown we all did live videos on Instagram and interviewed one another so I feel kinda done on the educational side. Do reels work as well if you only load in still videos? I’ve done a couple like that and I’m not sure whether it works or not

I already do short reels 5-8 secs max and I got pretty good views on one but I'm having a hard time trying to replicate it.
Seeing that my most viewed reel is just a black bg with some text slapped on while my other reels are text slapped on with a nice video at the back, it's kinda shocking because I'm trying hard for the nicer reels and they are tanking.
Yeah sometimes it's interesting what resonates with the market.
Several of the wet shavers I follow have been blacked out in their library. Iow I can't see old posts. Do you know why they messed this up?

Thank you for this video. I post art reels but not so often maybe once a month? I’ve noticed my last reel views were stuck at 0 for hours! I thought it was a glitch so deleted the app, reinstalled. I tried contacting Instagram via the help section and you simply can’t speak to a human. It’s very poor.
I posted a reel and content similar to other reels I’ve done in the past. I basically have 20 likes when I normally get 100s, a bit disheartening, frustrating and de-motivating. I know it’s not all about likes etc… but I don’t think my content is being shared with hardly anyone and not all my followers that’s for sure. I hope they fix this 😢😫🥺😢
Best advice I can give is try something new and different, and see what others are doing that are having success in your niche.
I have been experiencing the same thing- reels views are down, despite of quality content. I have been posting reels for a while, so I know how it looks when "it's picked up" by algorithm. For me approximately one month ago views tanked from 5k-10k per reel to like 100 views per reel. And I have seen exactly the same thing happen to a few other fellow creators, but not everyone. And the worst thing is that I cannot find educators talking about this..it is a glitch, not just "you should post better content" type of thing.
I can relate to it. I do have some followers and in 2020 when I created content I got around 200 likes n views on reels. But then had to take a break. Now when I resumed. It’s all fucked up. My posts including reels doesn’t even reach half of my followers. Not even my friends at times. So demotivating

Me too. And the worst thing is my reels quality have improved a lot from the past and yet the views are just deteriorating.
Most likely because people really don’t like using IG right now and with this new update most peoples feed is ads and suggested posts. Personally my own engagement and time spent on the app is down to like 20% of what it used to be so I assume my followers are also spending way less time on the app. Less users + IGs dumb new algorithm = plummeting views :(
The update is terrible. I don’t understand why thought it was ok to have the videos auto play with the volume on.

Capitalism is such BS - basically if you don’t follow the masses you’re no longer valid is what you’re saying. Hey Macklin, yeah totally. It's a combination of content, timing, that initial hook in your story, there's a lot to it that influences its reach.
The logic of keeping people on platform makes no sesne. Ig ads are separate posy. Means people have to scroll through feed to see ads. And with photos. You scroll 300 photos in a row easily. And still get some value from them. With videos. It steaks you 20-30 seconds of time and you still not see anything in detailsn you dont have time to browse 100 20sec videos. But you can scroll 100 photos. Videos actually annoy people and make them spend less time. And those who love stupid cringe videos are on tiktok and have no reason to go to inferior app

Hey Walter, could be anything really, best guess is that your carousels are more valuable to your audience than your Reels so IG is pushing those more.
