  • Installing a set of 8" Under the Seat Earthquake X84SWS Subwoofers. They are almost a direct fit. They only need a wiring adapter or you'll have to cut the connector wires.
    Check out the Sound Test at the end of the video! These sound great for a quick direct fit replacement option. The X5 has a Top HIFI unbranded system with the stock Logic 7 amp.

    Can you tell me which cables you connected the audio signal to to the amplifier? where did you plug into the audio installation in the car.

    Just installing these in my E70 LCI. I will not use the stock plastic top frame because I fear it will interfere with the speaker surround foam at higher levels. I will just leave it open for now and maybe install som kind of grill later on. The manual says that cone excursion is almost 1" in each direction. I really don't believe that is true, but at only 0.5" excursion it seems it will hit the stock top frame as there is not much clearance at all. On a side note I have upgraded from the Hifi system to the Match Up 7BMW amp 🙂 Stock 2 ohm woofers to 2 ohm SWS-8xi (2-pack i82SWS).

      Have you done any measurements with them? Since I have match up7bmw also and I have been thinking of sws 8xi but I would like to see measurements if possible

    A common misnomer with these speakers is that they are “subs”. In reality, they’re simply woofers. I replaced mine with BAVSound Ghostwoofers. Look at BAVSound Stage 1 to upgrade your mids and tweeters. They’re plug and play. I did mine. 10 speakers. Pretty easy really.

      I have my eye on the ETON variant, the BAVSOUNDS Are quite expensive and at their price point I'd probably choose the Focal brand instead once the marketplace starts to stabilize again. I can't justify the extra $40 to 90 in shipping costs im seeing right now in 2020.

      Suburban Garage if you know how to do the wiring work, which this knucklehead is to chicken to do, then yeah, Focal all the way.

      I upgraded all my speakers and even the amp to Bavsound (it's for an F01 7-series though). I haven't done the subwoofers yet though. I have my eyes on them. There's another option, however: The Rockford Fosgate T3-BMW. You have any thoughts on those because Bavsound and the RF are my two choices to consider.

      The earthquake sws is definetely a subwoofer with fs of ~30hz and xmax of 23mm. The oem hifi woofers have fs around 50hz and xmax of 7mm. Now those are barely in woofer category. Close to subwoofer still.

    Your subs may be hitting the top of the enclosure. I believe there meant to be installed open with nothing covering.

    • @suburbangarage4608
      @suburbangarage4608  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't believe so, I don't hear them hitting nor have I found any mention of cutting the carpet out from around them or removing the carpet grill which mounts to the top enclosure. I could see this as a potential concern with a aftermarket amp feeding more watts than the stock logic 7 amp does. However I still felt like there was plenty of space between the enclosure and the speaker.

      @@suburbangarage4608 Be careful, these speakers have a very large excursion. They need at least 1 "of the cover, otherwise in time it is possible to damage them.

    You have the top hifi surround sound system L7? With the two 8 inch & 8 ohms subwoofers under front seats. Did you hook it up to a separate amplifier? Everything I’ve read on line says if there the 8 ohm subwoofers that you can’t just hook them up to the stock system.

    • @suburbangarage4608
      @suburbangarage4608  Před 3 lety

      The stock ones were 8 ohm, they've been working for over a year now and 20k miles. No issues so far. That said I'm sure they would sound better with an aftermarket amp that has a bit more power. Overall they sound like a premium stock setup . And personally I've considered installing an aftermarket amp but if so I'd be looking to replace my spare tire with a nice dual 10" custom enclosure instead of just the underneath ones.

      Cedar Street hook them up because I also heard that they’ll be quieter or your Twitter or sound quieter or muffler is that true

      @adamroberts2525 Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry you just straight hook them up to the system without modify nothing

    • @adamroberts2525
      @adamroberts2525 Před 3 lety

      Yeah because right now I have two Rockford punch 10 series in the trunk with a 1200 W amp wired to an outline converter that’s T tapped into the sub speaker wires and it works fine for now but I also just bought those SWS 8I was gonna hook them up. But then I started reading that you had to do all these things for it to work either way to burn out your app and fry your whole system

      Check out this web post on a guy replacing those speakers and also adding an amp without changing anything else but basically taking the subs off the stock app and replacing it with an aftermarket out

    Hello. I also ordered a pair for my 2009 Mercedes E class modified to accommodate BMW subwoofers under seats that give great performance.
    What does it sound like after a few hours of running in? Certainly for BMW systems these woofers offer a plus on the low frequency side but also a bigger minus on the midbass. In fact, due to the 8 "woofers under the seats paired with 4" midranges in the doors, there is a lack of midbass somewhere between 120-150hz. A modification of the doors to be able to add a 6.5 midbass would solve this problem and the system will sound formidable.

      So I'd recommend modifying the center and rears to a 4x6 there is room there. I wouldn't want to cut the stock door panels. I just tried putting in a set of Orions 4" coaxial 2ways. They sound great but I dislike how the adapter plates have them fit. I just contacted a nearby shop to get a quote for the ETon component kits. I plan to remove the Orions and use them in a different vehicle. Btw the Orions sound great.

      @@Ionel88 @3:40 "ridiculous amt of work, took us almost 4 days to build the grill panel." Don't get me wrong it looks good, however I wont be going that far into modifying my X5. I see others vids calling out the center and rears to use as "fill" speakers. So while the modified door panel in your link looks excellent, I feel it might be less effort to mod the other mounting areas and achieve a similar result.

      You can buy 4 inch speakers that will do midbass properly. Just need to know what specs to look for but atleast these: fs needs to be under 100hz and xmax atleast 4mm. For midbass

    • @Ionel88
      @Ionel88 Před rokem

      @@maxl7827A 4" will never provide enough midbass, the BMW midbass is the 8" speaker, the 4" being midrange.

    Taking the entire speaker mount out is so unnecessary to simply replace a speaker.
