    I use the Kase Wolverine Magnetic Round Filter Set for about one year, and it's the best, most compact and easy to use Filter set I've ever used. I never use graduated filter, so round filters were not a problem for me and use the magnetic filters is a real joy every time.

  • @arnaldovfx
    @arnaldovfx Před 3 lety

    Hi Attilio, you calculate the long exposure for thirteen stops but you don't considere +1 stop for polarizer. By other side you can do a metering with GND and polarizer, and at the end calculate the long exposure for 10 stops. Even this after the calculate metering you decide by other time, probably because you prefere an exposure at histogram right side.

    thanks for the video! For shorter exposures in the daytime now, for example waterfalls requiring only 2-4 seconds exposure, I've started leaving the tripod at home and just putting my camera into high+ mode and firing off 20-30 pictures in a few seconds, and stacking them in lightroom to mimic a much longer exposure. Obviously you would need a very fast computer for the 1+ minute exposures you're doing most of the time!

    I have a 15-stop Lee filter that I've only used once. Next week I'll be in Cape Cod and will have a great chance for some seaside very long exposure shots with the 15. I actually use the NiSi holder and polarizer system. Initially I bought less expensive Lee ND filters but I grew tired of the color cast. So my 3, 6, and 10 stop filters are NiSi, which are very neutral.

  • @ZachBeauvais
    @ZachBeauvais Před 3 lety

    I use the Kase magnetic system, and it's also good for most of the same reasons you're talking about. One thing I don't like about the Kase system is the circular polariser. It's great optically, and does a good job at cutting glare, but rotating it is hard, as it is just held on magnetically - there's no bearing or gear or way to disengage the filter from the filter holder to rotate it. But, overall, magnetic filters are so nice compared with screw-on or fiddly square holders.

    Just switched cameras as a result of an un(intentional) mishap. My camera and I went for an impromptu swim... So, I got a new Sony A7R and have been working on learning all the new features and benefits. It has taken me some time to learn, and today I only just figured out how to set it for long exposures. I have to say, it was really frustrating. So now.... I will practice., with my filters, which is another new thing for me. So Thank you for this video, and for your exposure course, it will save me time, and hopefully stress :-) Thanks, Attilio, I just bought the Haida System. Just ordered it last week, I have been kind of using the cheaper Screw on.

    When using a ND filter, does your light meter on your camera still give you an accurate indication? A recent long exposure shot I found that doing a long exposure at 1 or 2sec at f11 with a variable ND filter attached set to virtually darkness the light meter on my camera was still indicating well overexposed.

    So I have a question with Long Exposure. I am capable of taking long exposures, with the clouds looking beautiful and the water flat as glass, but how do I keep the leaves, branches and trees from moving? Have same issue with sailboats in the harbor. I want the long exposure effect on the sky and water, but want the sailboat or trees to stay sharp. How would you do that? I assume it's two photos, one sharp and one long exposure, but can they just be merged in Lightroom? Thanks in advance for your advice... Cheers

    On the magenta color cast, your sensor might be going. That's a long time to electrify a sensor. Do you think that will shorten the life of your camera? How many 1/250 sec shots will fill 900sec?

    • @AttilioRuffo
      @AttilioRuffo  Před 3 lety

      I don’t think so Ben, check out my video on Thursday... I am going much longer and no color cast... :-)

    • @benkotowicz174
      @benkotowicz174 Před 3 lety

      What factors shorten a camera sensor's life? What is the average life of a camera sensor?
      Long exposure on a CCD or CMOS is like a SCUBA diver going into the realm of the unknown on a deep sea dive.
      I had a camera sensor go bad on one camera that I used a lot. The color went from natural to a blue cast then to a magenta cast. She was finished.

    What RRS tripod are you using in this video? Your equipment link suggests a TVC34L, but based on the fit of the BH55 bullhead, it looks more like a TVC24L.

    So was the color cast because your camera set it wrong with the filter on or did you have manual wb set? If so did you test it with manual wb to make sure it wont change because of auto-wb cant work properly throught the filter?

    • @AttilioRuffo
      @AttilioRuffo  Před 3 lety +1

      I kept the same settings for all the images, the WB was in auto as when you shoot in RAW it doesn’t matter... possibly stacking both filters caused the color cast..

    I have the Canon EF to RF adaptor with the CP filter built in. I use Aurora Adapter Mount Filters (UV / ND / GND / LPR) - Canon RF for my Canon EF to RF standard adapter from ebay. This allows me to use 1 ND filter for any lens including one that has the big bulbous fisheye looking front element because the filter is behind the lens. If I want to use an RF lens or double stack filters behind the lens, I use the Kase filters the fit over the sensor itself. www.ebay.com/itm/264996080979?var=564847499927 I find the Kase sensor filter and the EF to RF adaptor filter much less expensive than the huge filters that sit in front of the lens and they are much smaller, ligher and easier to carry around. I think these filters work better on wide angle lenses because they add less distortion and artifacts because they sit behind the lens. They are even making the kase type sensor filters for some DSLRs, but they have more limitations than the mirrorless ones.

    Ho provato a cercare i filtri nel link che ha inserito sotto al video per valutare un eventuale acquisto ma appaiono altri prodotti. Non è che in Italia, anche attraverso Amazon, non sono importati? (scrivo da Bologna). Stavo anche valutando i più blasonati NISI ma a parte il costo (probabilmente anche i B-way non te li tirano dietro), i filtri circolari mi sembrano più comodi e maneggevoli per portarseli dietro nelle escursioni. Spero solo che la qualità ottica sia adeguata (utilizzo Z6 con 24-40 f4s).

      @@AttilioRuffo Grazie per la risposta. Ho visto che gli unici reperibili a prezzi "abbordabili" in Italia sono i K&F concept ma non vorrei che la qualità ottica del filtro sia penalizzante rispetto alla lente. Non sono un "pro", ma nemmeno vorrei vetri che compromettessero in modo significativo la qualità dell'immagine rispetto alle possibilità della lente. Finirebbero per essere utili solo per qualche "esercizio accademico" e poco più.
