I loved how they changed his in-menu image based on whether he lost his sunglasses or not

Fun fact, in the Ultimania for this, Nomura states that the reason why Cloud is so aloof and "cool" and then dorky/rash the next minute is because his memories were lost. To him, he's got the mentality of a teenager, in an adult's body. And he's trying to compensate and act older than he (mentally) is. Which makes SO much more sense.
It always used to anger me when people said Cloud was too "broody" and "angsty" and I could never fully make them understand why.

while i do agree it explains a lot, it also opens a few new cans considering we're then exposing essentially a teenager to a lot of violence and sexual situations, in addition to have a lot of older people making advances towards him, as tifa, aerith and jessie are all grown women. which makes it less cute imo.
@@SuperEkkorn not really. He is an adult. He just lost his memories. But no one else knows that (except for Tifa when she jumps in the Mako and pieces his memories back together).
Also, nothing physically ever happens and Aerith mainly does it to tease him. And by the time Tifa and Cloud Do get together, he has his memories back.
@@SuperEkkorn also, he knows that he is in his 20s and that his memories were lost (hence the trying to act older). So, he's not really a 15yo. It's more that those are the last memories he has.

Can we talk about how sad that Soldier grunt must be? He finds out an old training buddy is alive after five years, gets legitimately excited and rushes to go get Kunsel for a reunion. Only to come back and Cloud is just gone.
Seeing Cloud must also be a sign that Zack is alive, which is all the more sadder.
Seeing as how Kunsel was worried about him and said that even though he's a fugitive, he'll still have his back. And Zack has been training SOLDIERs and Infantrymen too.
@@boxtupos7718 if Zack hadn't died, Cloud wouldn't do what he's doing and being as messed up in the head as he is in the remake. What we saw at the end of the game with Zack was probably an alternate timeline
@@Edward-W It's what would happen if Kunsel rushed in to try and meet Cloud. He'd probably has his hopes up that one of his buddy who's presumed dead is alive.
Not to mention I actually think Zack shouldn't survive, as if he did he'd become the main character.
@@Edward-W It is, Stamp is a different breed of dog on that flyer that whips past Zack's feet in the first scene he's in. I think what this is implying is that Aerith has created a separate timeline where Zack might win, in case Cloud and the gang don't.

Pretty sure stuff they do in the singularity is beyond what they're strong enough to accomplish yet in normal time-space. Cloud was shown to be capable of some superhuman jumps and stuff during the normal course of the game, but those instances were far more grounded and possible seeming in every scene before they entered that crazy distortion wall bubble thingy. Might become literally part of the battle system by the final part of the Remake, though.

honestly, you'd think Kingdom Hearts would wake everyone up to the fact that Tetsuya Nomura is the biggest wildcard director working in ANY industry right now, and that trying to predict him is like trying to scoop water with a sieve. good luck doing it, fam.

And now he's throwing it into Kingdom Hearts and I couldn't be happier that our petty, madman, genius is really out here tying the FF and KH universes together.
@@Orion_TheyThem If "Childhood Friend/Loveinterest dying before the wedding, a best friend getting permanently blinded during a fight and being raised just so he can sacrifice himself for the greater good" is supposed to be the upbeat version of FF15, then I don't want to know what FF13-Versus would have turned out to be. Big oof though as, apparently nomura is going to weave of that into the Kingdom Hearts games to come.
Also... It's technically about Sephiroth's attempt to "Remake" the timeline. After he was defeated in AC, he stated "I will never be a memory." And it's likely that he some how found a way to send his memories back through time in the Lifestream, to the version of himself that had just fallen in, so that he could change the events so he would have a chance at being victorious.
The Arbiters of Fate are like the "Weapons" except instead of protecting the planet, they protect the flow of time from being meddled with.
Also... I believe Aerith was aware of Sephiroth's plan and sent herself a warning... Remember, she can see events currently happening and ones that previously happened through the Lifestream. And not only did she know Barret's name when Marlene mentioned her daddy(even though Cloud and Tifa didn't mention him.), but she also warned Cloud not to fall in love with her, knew the plate falling was unavoidable, and warned Cloud that if they tried to defy fate, thete would be no going back.
So, Technically this is a sequel, Aerith and Sephiroth are time travelers, and Biggs is young Charlie Sheen. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Aerith doesn't need to have time traveled at all. The planet detected this new Sephiroth and so created the arbiters to stop fate being messed with. Aerith communicates with the planet, so she was essentially told what was happening. No time travel needed.
@@garywood97 True. But rather then simply knowing there's a threat from the future, she seems to know just about everything. Future events, the people she hasn't met yet, and her own fate. Which leads me to believe that when Sephiroth went back, the Aerith that was in the Lifestream could've fallowed and met up with the version of her still in Midgar.
This isn't a sequel. English dub added pretty much EVERY LINE people use to justify that, Aerith calling Cloud a merc, her saying how "everything about Sephiroth is wrong." (Originally she said Sephiroth is mistaken.) And her "This isn't how it's supposed to be." those are all only in the english dub. Sephiroth doesn't know everything either.

Spoilers for those who haven't played or watched:
Showing Zack in the end is supposed to be confusing for everyone involved. Those who have played the game will be confused on why the scene is different (notice that he wasn't gunned down like he should've been) and those who haven't will be left wondering who this person is, why he is with Cloud, and why he has the Buster Sword. It's a big mystery for both sides, compelling both sides to stay tuned for the next game.
I never played Crisis Core but as far as I can understand, the Zack scene happens alongside the final battle and although they happen canonically at different points in time they're linked by the presence of the Whispers. Once the party defeats the Whispers, their presence in all points of time is wiped out, so at the point where Zack is supposed to die, they aren't there to ensure it happens so he lives.
As far as I could see it, this could either create a number of different FF7 universes with differing events in each, OR, a ripple effect in the current FF7 timeline that changes events both from the past, and going forward. Either way, can't wait to see.

@@michaelwilson5114 i never played it as a kid aha, so I'm fully on board with playing a different story. I just love the world of the original and I'm excited to see it fleshed out.
Well another thing to point out is that the Zack scene is actually happening in an alternate timeline/ universe because the chip bag that had Stamp on it is different from the Stamp we see throughout the game

It also doesn't help that everyone is thirsty for Cloud the whole game.

the 2000 has one dress, the others a second, and if you dont do the sidequest, there's a third

Paying for the full price on the hand massage starts the quest chain to get the big frilly princess dress.
Doing Sam's quests instead gets you the big busty dress seen in the trailer.
Doing neither will get you Cloud's original FF7 dress.

Clarification: His Japanese voice actor, Keiji Fujiwara, who has been voicing Reno ever since his very first spoken appearance and also voiced Axel in Kingdom Hearts as well as a buttload of other characters, passed away just 2 days after the release of FF7R. He will be mourned by everyone, everywhere. ;__;

They have certainly convinced me to do things I normally wouldn't do in the past, thats for sure.
Personally, these comments are rather bullshit to me. Cloud can easily split Jesse in half if he wanted and be way more direct if he really wanted to cut her off, just like he does Wedge or Barret at the start.
It would be another thing if Cloud looked legit uncomfortable, avoided her, or was more direct instead of an emotionally stunted loner weird kid. But that never happens except when you are given the choice after the mission with her and her pals for the explosives. Persisting on someone stubborn and closed off and persisting on someone completely uninterested or uncomfortable are not the same, my dudes.

I just realized something despite me finishing the game about two weeks ago. Jessie’s mom and dad live on the sector 7 plate, meaning both of them died a long with their baby girl 🥺
To be fair, her dad was basically dead anyway, so it was really only her mom that died.

elementalchevalier it makes you wonder why they didn’t highlight anyone on top of the sector 7 plate when they destroy the pillar. By that point, we already know theres still a lot of good people on the plates. I think it would’ve hammered home just how evil it was (even though we knew that it was already evil, but still would’ve made it more like “oh shit!”)

Nomura is only one of 3 writers though.
@@soul6733 Nomura isn't even writing. He's the director, and the writer y'all are thinking of is Nojima.
You know a lot of people, who are dissatisfied with Remake (IE not me) blame Nomura and his "uniqueness" and while he IS the director, a lot of the OG final fantasy crew worked on this. Including the original Scenario Planner. In fact one of the reasons they chose to do the remake NOW was because if they didn't the OG team would be too old to do it if they wanted to later. So the "changes" they made aren't just Nomura, they basically are done with the consent of MOST of the OG FF7 team.
@@Tenaxis And even then Kitase gets the final say as to what goes down, he's the final step so it's both Kitase and Nojima, with Nomura essentially putting the body together into a visual medium; it's sad how many think one person works on a game lol.

TheSlammurai the second gun you get I have found makes a great magic focused weapon for him while big Bertha is just straight up the best offensive option for him in the game rn.

You can argue that he's the director, not the writer, but it was blatantly obvious that the one responsible for the ending was him...to the point that the only things missing are fireworks that would spell N O M U R A. look what he did to KH3. The guy can conceptualize, but he can't write. He just makes everything convoluted and confusing

Kingdom Hearts 3 I think is more about extending the life of the franchise because it is so popular. My problem with the ending is that it assumes that the player has already played the original. I played the original and I still had to re-watch the ending just to understand it. I've watched a few streamers who haven't played the original and they just went "what?!" at the ending. Showing Zack, who the new players know nothing about? Implying that it is an alternate universe by showing that stamp is a different dog breed? It's just not good storytelling. I'm on the fence about the next game, but I would be happy if they would prove me wrong once it's released

Johnny is in FF7, as Split Dimension mentioned, he's in the bar and gets kicked out, he's also then seen the next day going on an adventure and all his friends are upset that Johnny is leaving. He is then seen on the train that the party gets, and from there he ends up in Wall Market outside of the Honeybee Inn, talking about "Should he or shouldn't he?"
He's not in Kalm, but he is in Costa Del Sol where he talks to Tifa.
After that we don't see him for a looong time until Cloud is in his vegetable state, and Tifa is the party leader, you can find Johnny in Costa Del Sol again and talk to him, he mentions that he proposed to his girlfriend. From that point onwards he gives some general one-liner responses if you talk to him again, mainly reactions to Meteor's appearance.

Dracosfire 7 Biggs was 3 floors up giving someone all the time in the world to find a rescue him. Jessie was 1 floor away from the top of the plate and was the only one left besides Barret, Cloud and Tifa. Even if someone found her there’s no way there getting her to the ground as the plate collapses 10 minutes after she dies. I would love for Jessie to survive but it ain’t happening so stop holding on to false hopes and just face the fact that she’s dead.
Sephiroth is actually a reincarnated Xenahort using the Lifestream to access Kingdom Hearts and stop Hojo from banging Lucresia.

I think the vision Cloud had of himself in the church is supposed to be Zack, just not overtly as to not spoil the specifics of Cloud’s condition in the game.
In the original game it was never Zack talking to him. It was always Cloud.
The spoiler is the reason for that which we all know from the OG. So no that scene isn't different.
Cloud is talking to Cloud that last time he only scraped his knees. Because he was trying to save Tifa when they were kids from falling off Mt. Nibel and failed.
Zack was never inside Cloud's head. Cloud's condition is what we know of as a result of the trauma of losing Zack.
That's Cloud himself trying to break through and that's why the LifeStream scene in Mideel is so important.
Yeah i think that's what it was in the OG...but then shortly after he starts seeing the "Future" with Aerith's death so a small part of me has a theory that this time around it may actually be Cloud from the OG game....or Sephiroth who's fing with him by showing him clips of the future so he's more inclined to defy destiny which Sephiroth with use to circumvent his death.

The OG timeline: Sephiroth is defeated. The Meteor is stopped. Midgar is saved. Sephiroth survives as an individual in the Lifestream and he infects everyone with Geostigma (source is Lifestream Black and White, which is before AC). Ultimately the conclusion is that all of humanity is dead in around 500 years (the last cinematic of original FF7).
They confirmed that the OG FF7'S story ultimately leads to the bad ending with Nanaki and his descendants observing the ruins of what humanity left behind. That is the true course of destiny, the Whispers and ultimately the will of the planet.
Repeating the OG events means a short-term victory but ultimately humanity is destroyed. What the characters want to do now is to find a different path to stop the bad ending while also stopping Sephiroth.
@@matthewmendoza3109 Eh, that meta commentary falls apart pretty quickly when you think about it more. Not to mention if it was accurate then the creators of the game just had the characters in the game kill the representation of the fans... so... ya know... not exactly great optics.
In the first game you have Sephiroth, who wants to destroy all life, Aerith, who wants to preserve all life, and the Planet, who wants to preserve itself. The planet honestly doesn't really give a shit about people. Hence why all the Weapons were fine with destroying entire cities to get at the Mako reactors. In the end the Planet is successful, Aerith is partly successful and Sephiroth loses.
In this Sephiroth, Aerith and the Planet seem to be aware of the events of the previous game. Sephiroth is working to change that outcome by messing with the timeline. The planet is trying to stop that from happening because is the original time line it survives, which is it's only concern. Aerith is fine with changing the timeline because it might mean they can do better this time. (It also might mean she won't have to die.) The three Whisper champions are Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz from Advent children. They're trying to preserve their time line because at least in that one they get to exist. The symbolism with the whispers goes a lot deeper than just being a representation of the fans that are afraid of change.
Aurora Echoes thank you for explaining both games to me, it really helps my understanding after having beaten the original 7 twice in the past year, having played it since the PlayStation 1 days, beating the new one twice (almost, I’m in the Shinra building on hard), watching several reviews and reading through quite a few discussion threads about the ending of the game and theories about where they’re going in the story from here. I’m well aware of what they actually are as well as them having a greater role to play in timelines they’re setting up for the rest of the series.
Regardless, that’s not symbolism, that’s their actual role in the story. What I’m talking about is what they represent symbolically to this game and the history of FF7 as a series, not what they literally are. This is almost certainly what they had intended with how they present the whispers in the game, a *remake* of one of the most iconic games of all time and probably the most important one outside of the original FF for the company. Remember, this is Nomura we’re talking about, Mr. Kingdom Hearts and it’s ridiculous story and meta references to the real player in the real world (I say this with love as it’s one of my favorite series of all time).
Seriously, consider what this game means to them as creators. What it means to you, me and the rest of the world as players who grew up loving that game and its amazing story. You cannot pretend that since the first day they mentioned remaking 7, that the fan base has not been in constant heated debate over whether they should change a thing about the game besides the graphics and environments. There was an extreme amount of backlash from the fans from a few years back when they first mentioned that they were going to be adding onto the story. It was almost in unison that people reviewing the trailers all called foul when they first saw the whispers in the Aerith reveal. It must have been a monumental decision on the creators’ part when they decided that they were going to change and reimagine a cultural icon.
Now with that in mind, think about the structure of this game, and further, the remake series as a whole. This is the beginning of a new adventure, a fresh start for all of major fans of the original. We have no clear idea on how this story that we once knew inside and out will go. There are many who would fight tooth and nail to hold onto the old 7, those who are in essence the guardians of the world of FF7; their love having made the game into what it is. They are the final obstacle to this remake - not just this game, but the creation of the entire remake series. This is why they make for an extremely meta final boss, as the characters are fighting against the fate that we, not just as players, but anybody who loves the original 7 has imposed upon them. The world and timeline of FF7 already exists, but they’re determined change it (especially Sephiroth), and they rise up and defeat the guardians of the original canon to begin their new journey, a journey in which they will have to continuously struggle to defy the expectations that their world and it’s protectors have for them. If anything, this theory about the symbolic (not literal) nature of the whispers becomes more concrete the closer you examine it.
Side note, I smoked a bowl before writing this, but I’m a philosophy minor about to graduate (then going to law school) who is a massive fan of all of FF, and Kingdom Hearts. I’m a member of the Nomura pain train to hell, so get that I’m not pulling this out of my ass and this opinion/observation comes from a long time fan of the man’s (let’s call it) artistic expression
Ain't gonna lie, in the original the characters didn't really leave a big impression on me. The Remake did characterization so well, that I love every one of them and the whole cast are some of the most lovable characters in any video game I've played. I even ship Cloud with both Aerith and Tifa (and everyone else tbh), and I usually don't ship because I'm aroace af and usually don't like romance in stories. But these people are so likable, I can't help it. I enjoyed this Remake more than I did the original, and that's saying something. What an amazing job they did with this.

New Recruit is EASILY one of my favorite characters in the Remake.
Cloud is a mix of original and advent children, Barret is a huge teddy bear, and Nanaki is unplayable.
Nanaki being unplayable was okay because he was an absolute badass. I'm sure in Part 2 he will be even better, but he would have only been playable for 2 chapters.
I think it was a good decision. It would have been odd trying to learn how to control a new party member with their own mechanics while you're fighting the final boss. By that point, you're supposed to have the controls down.

Yup! I'm one of those people that never played the original :) I knew Zack through the Kingdom Hearts games, but have/had no idea who he is in Final Fantasy. I did get he must be some important character the way he's revealed, and Bun's reaction confirmed it. Got some reading up to do :)
It actually works quite well in terms of hooking people into the fanbase. My wife had never touched an FF game in her life, but the mysteries the remake created for her were compelling enough to get her to want to get into the bigger FFVII story. She's almost beat the original, and Crisis Core is in the mail.

@@patrickmcgregor5168 Nope, it's an alternate timeline where he survives (check the dog breed of stamp on the pack that flies by, different to the "current" timeline). Aerith senses something weird because there's a world where Zack survives. When they took down the whispers, it had a ripple effect on this Zack's world.
Something I noticed early on is that Jessie's bomb did blow up the device controlling the reactor, meaning they weren't trying to cause major damage. Which makes Shinra's amplification to demonize them all the more heartless.
This was nearly four hours of seeing Buns screaming “I LOVE THEM!” every time someone new showed up and honestly it’s time well spent

I love that the scene at the honey bee inn has been turned from one that's this secret shame into one that's a celebration. It is a beautiful demonstration of how far we have come in 23 years.

What I love about this remake is they knew that most of the people have either watched Advent Children and/or played Crisis Core, and this harkens back to those games in a way that’s subtle, yet satisfying.

@Isrel156 Cerberus was actually my 1st FF7 game as a kid, but the hype didn't represent the product. Thats where some of my confusion comes from. Eventually got Crisis Core(convinced me too really dig into the final fantasy catalog), but truth be told, I found the older final fantasy game charming(tactics In particular). Can't wait to see how they implement clouds flash back story where Sephiroth and Zack come to Nibelheim. Wonder how everyone will meet Yuffie this time?

The way I see it, the whispers are the continuity police, they're making sure the timeline stays the way it was in the original. I kinda caught onto this when they saved Aerith in the church. So, when they first appear in the streets of Midgar after blowing the reactor, they make you notice Aerith by freaking her out and then causing soldiers to come after you because you're supposed to be chased onto the train like in the original. Then, when you get kicked off from the second reactor mission, they attack and injure Jessie, forcing you to take her place and be back on the mission. Then they stop you from killing Reno, because he wasn't supposed to die, and you are supposed to run away through the back of the church with Aerith. Then there's everything they do in the Shinra building, saving Barret from Sephiroth, but not the President because the President was supposed to die there, along with them helping you escape Shinra when the debris nearly crushes Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and Red on the highway. They've been doing all of this to keep the original timeline flowing.
Also, at the end there, I'm not sure if Buns got it or not, but it implied that there was a change and Zack survived at the end since he took out all of the soldiers, including the three that originally finished him off.
It is implied several of the interruptions that caused major events to continue the same way, such as the deaths of the Avalanche trio and Zack, were avoided if not entirely denied. I wonder what they will do with that, since there are limitless possibilities opened up by such a fact.
