How to Use the Waze App - Beginners Guide to Waze

- Want to learn how to use the Waze navigation app? You’ve come to the right place. Watch this video for our beginners guide to the Waze navigation app.
To begin, download the Waze app for free on your iOS or Android mobile device. Once the installation is complete, go ahead and launch the app.
Tap Allow to let Waze access your location. Now tap Get Started. Scroll down and tap Accept. Tap Allow. This is what the main Waze screen looks like. To set a destination you want to navigate to, tap the search icon in the bottom left corner. You’ll see a menu appear on the left side. Type in your desired destination in the “where to?” text box, or you can tap one of the category icons below the text box to find nearby parking, gas stations, restaurants, or coffee shops. If you search gas stations, you’ll see nearby gas stations as well as the current gas price. Tap the three dots on the right to access more business categories to search, like pharmacies, grocery stores, hospitals, and hotels. Tap the address you want to go to when it appears in the search results. Waze will automatically tell you about places to park near the place you’re going. To start navigation, tap Go at the bottom.
Waze will then start telling you directions to your destination. The text-to-voice system will read the directions to you out loud. To see alternate routes to your destination, tap Routes. Tap the route you’d like to take. To see more options, tap the arrow button in the bottom right corner. If you’re heading to meet a friend, tap Send ETA to share your estimated time of arrival. Tap Overview to see an overview of your route on a map. Tap Re-center to go back to the default view.
If you’d like to listen to music while you’re driving, tap the Music icon in the top right corner. Then select the audio app you want to use. You can link Waze with your favourite music streaming app and control your music without having to switch between apps.
To cancel navigation, tap the arrow in the bottom right corner, then tap Stop at the bottom.
To make it easier for you to navigate to places you drive to regularly, tap the Search icon. Then tap Home. Begin typing your home address, then tap your address when it appears in the search results. At the bottom, tap Set Home and Go to save your home address. Navigation will start automatically. Tap Stop if you’d like to exit navigation. You can do the same thing for your work address, and add other locations you visit frequently to your Favorites. Even if you know your way there, this can be helpful to warn you of traffic delays, construction in the area, etc.
Use the Planned Drives tool to have Waze recommend the best time to leave in order to get to your destination on time. This way you’re less likely to end up running late because of traffic and other delays.

can waze be used for pedestrians? if not can you recommend another app, but not google maps? Google maps says "go North" or " go east" instead of turn left or turn right, and short of having a compass at hand, it makes it useless.

John Goodwin as long as you have cell service or WiFi when you set your destination, Waze will continue to work when you leave cell service.
Can we change the look of the map, like in Google Maps? I would like to be able to see details of the road, buildings, etc
My waze verbalized warnings ahead, but did not verbalized turns to make as I approached. That would have been very helpful as I was in an unknown area while camping in the Kingston Ontario area.
Waze makes my iPhone extremely hot. It’s tough to use it for long drives. Also I wish the carpool thing would go away. Thank you for posting this tho.

I ditched Waze a while back. Had background refresh off , gps while using and notifications were popping up at 3am while I was at home with the app off... After about the 3rd time I got woke at 3 am to be notified some person named Jessica was reporting a speed trap 6 miles away I had to let it go... xD wow what a coincidence your name is Jessica too xD
Be sure to “shut down” the app; don’t just let it run in the background at night. And/or adjust your notifications.

Click on music icon>>>then Settings>>>>then Disconnect any connected apps. HTH
How is this better than my Garmin Sat Nav? It would also be a good idea to add EV charging points as well as “gas” stations as EV sales are outstripping ICE vehicles in European sales.
Waze does now show EV charging stations on its app! This feature is still being expanded, but was added in December 2021.
How do you use waze for bikes and not car?
Why won't Waze give audio prompts while iPhone is plugged into charger?
Maybe your phone is connected to your car's sound system? In that case it would be trying to play through your car instead of your phone's speaker.

How accurate is Waze in the UK for actually stopping you at exactly the correct house number location?
Haven't used Waze before but thinking of giving it a go as I've been problems using Google maps as my sat nav recently and I'm fed up with it. Will Waze automatically redirect me if I take a wrong turn on my route?
Yes it will. Google Maps should do that as well though

I was hoping for instructions on how to use Waze on an Android. The icons in this video are not on my screen and I just downloaded, installed and set up Waze.
This video was recorded on an iPhone but it was also posted a couple years ago, so the app has been updated a bit since then. There may have been some changes made but the basics should still apply!

Why can I get great non-stop directions anywhere with a small Garmin GPS but my phone connected to Android auto (at 10x the cost) gets no maps when I travel in remote (no cell service) areas. You don't need internet for GPS to work.

Big drawback of this map is one can not share the location directly to some one it's shared with link and mostly the receiver can not open the link...Google map is best I think..

Waze doesn't have a specific walking mode

For some reason though I’m registered but i still don’t see the notifications for cops like I be having two police passing by back to back but it still won’t tell me that there’s some in the area ? Why is that ? Do y’all know ?
@@uniquely_yev another wave user has to send in that there is a cop in a certain location. Maybe you drive in an area that doesn't have many Waze users?

I used Waze today and was driving on the highway and it made me miss my turn because it told me to after I passed it. Then in the city it nearly made me miss another turn because it told me to at the last minute. Luckily for me nobody was on other side when I signalled and quickly turned 😓

Waze is a great addition to Google but not so the other way round.....google map still is far more superior in terms of features... i.e how impossibly difficult or your overpaid imagination does it take to realized the importance and usefulness of an option displaying all our favorite places at one glance on the map like that in google map?....so now most will need to jungle in and out of two different map apps and let the pedestrians fend for themselves....and nO unlike most of your silicon minimum wages my corolla do not have autopilot like most of your coalpowered green cars.......what about being able to random pin drop with custom labels on a random spot with a simple hold and type??......tho im not saying one should but most wazers are active driving while multitasking a million things so even an additional click will most likely distract their eyes off the road for at least one second.....does anyone know how many feet can a car travel within the legal speed limit? Im sure i can run over at least 5 dogs😤
Dean Chen Waze also has features that google maps does not have, like warning you of traffic cameras and police locations. And it’s better at getting you off the highway and around traffic jams instead of just telling you how long to expect to sit in the traffic jam.
When you arrive, (Turn the phone) (OFF).
That is the only way to turn the freaken thing off.
If that doesn't work, throw the freakin phone out the window..
