Fool and his relationship to Fitz was my favorite part of the entire Farseer Trilogy. It made me really want to keep on reading the next series just for more elaboration on that

Liveship Traders is her most grand, most beautiful, most elegant and epic masterpiece. I can't wait to watch your journey through that wonderful trilogy!

Yeah I'm with you, I was never bored. Not sure I get that from any Hobb book though. It was my least favorite in the trilogy but mainly because some of the big magical moments missed with me. Though now being in book 3 of Tawny Man I appreciate the ending to AQ a lot. Loved your review, can't wait for you to read Liveships 👀

The best mystery stories, the ones that stay in my mind forever are the ones in which the solution knocks me flat more than any lingering feelings of mystery could carry me. Twists that add an entirely new layer to the stories that is completely obvious on a re-read and completely changes that experience.

  • @nataliaweronikapetersson3425

The plot of this book is pretty much summarized on the cover, the quest is 90% walking, Fitz is a cinnamon bun instead of an assassin and yet not for a single minute was I bored reading this book.
    It is Hobb’s magic.

    • @LienesLibrary
      @LienesLibrary  Před 3 lety +1

it's strange how I totally think of Fitz as being this precious baby cinnamon roll but he's a legit killer 🥴

Finally, someone said it! The overarching plot resolution disappointed me too. That was my only big issue with the third book. I totally agree with your description of the resolution. 4 not 5.

based on what I've been hearing, I'm guessing I'll feel different once I read the rest of the books in this universe, but for the present, yeah, it was a bit of a let down

I'm glad that you ultimately enjoyed this one! This one is actually my favorite of the three just because of all the Fitz/Nighteyes content and bonding, but it gets a lot of hate from Farseer readers! Can't wait to see what you think of Liveship!

    • @LienesLibrary

I'm excited to hear what you think of Liveship Traders! Like you, I also felt partly let down by some of the lore reveals in Assassin's Quest but I feel like Liveship Traders retroactively enhances that lore and makes you recontextualize the entire Farseer trilogy!

    • @LienesLibrary

You don’t get the answers here. You get what fitz thinks are the answers at the time. There’s at least another 9 books before you get the answers. Likewise you get young fitz’s unreliable narrator views of how everyone reacts/treats him. As he matures and becomes more experienced his understanding changes his interpretation of things. I’d like to see your review of the final volume and then have you go back and do a redux of this. Oh! And nighteyes gets way better!

Great review! Personally I loved the ending, and while it’s hard to pick my favorite of the trilogy I loved just being with Fitz and Nighteyes and the characters new and old out in the Six Duchies, because as much as I love Buckkeep, I wanted to see more of the world and what Fitz thought about it, and the reveals were great to me because it maintained a sense of mystery that I hope will be touched on in the next three trilogies! I too would die for Nighteyes!!!

As someone else already said, this is an end with some answers, but it is presented in a way that is more conclusive than it really is in the larger scheme of the series. After reading the rest of the Realm of the Elderlings and expanding the lore, the end of this trilogy is more satisfying. AQ isn't as anti-climactic once you realize that its still far away from the actual climax.

Loved the review. Felt like everything you said was fair. Can't wait for you to see how the world expands in Liveship. I was also disappointed by AQ ending but it gave me Tawny Man which is my favorite by far. Glad you are enjoying Hobb 🙂

I definitely agree that people overstate how "slumpy" assassin's quest is. Overall I just enjoy being in the world with the characters and Robin Hobb just writes books I like spending time reading. I think you described the issues with the ending perfectly tho: just a little rushed and vague for all the build up. Luckily theres a lot more books in which to expand it! After reading the rest of the series I forgive AQ a lot more because it really does just feel like a touching off point.

Just finished this and really loved the trilogy. I will definitely be reading the rest of her stuff. Great review, and I actually liked the ending. I was happy how they handled the end. It would have felt cheap if a certain character just stabbed another character...

Sigh. I’m going to read this because I’ve read the first 2 but I feel like I’m gonna be closer to Mara’s feelings on this story LOL. But I feel like I’m hard to please with series endings in general

I am really curious which parts of the lore you didn’t like the execution and what you still have questions about. Mainly cause I can’t really remember how it ends but I think I did like that part of the ending. But that was like 2 years 😅

I completely agree with everything you said. I was waiting for it to get boring, as well, but it just never did and the Fool is one of my favourite characters.
I don't know if this is considered a spoiler but I'll just put some spaces to be sure.
The only thing I really didn't like was the ending regarding Burrich and Molly. I just really don't think that should've happened. I loved Burrich the entire series but this just made me not like him anymore. I don't understand, well, I mean, I do understand but I kind of don't why it ended this way?

    • @LienesLibrary
