A great artist takes the various elements in their environment and creates something of value. Yes I agree that this song is influenced somewhat by Brazilian funk...So? Then what you are implying is that she should just sing Sri-Lankan folk songs? Are you suggesting that artists can only borrow from their own culture? The thing that makes MIA so interesting IS her ability to meld a wide cross-section of musical styles. Rather than be so dismissive about where one sources their material from, you should celebrate the fact that we live in a global village and that every culture has something to offer. That is what MIA is all about. I guess you will have a busy afternoon going through all of her songs crying out 'plagiarism' to Aboriginal music, Russian music , Rap, Hip-Hop, Electronica, Pop, Punk etc etc etc...
***** I personally see the arrangement of this song is actually a tribute to Carioca Funk of the 90's and early 00's, and if fact one of the few open displays of recognition of Brazilian Funk by international producers. Also, it must be considered that the Brazilian Funk is, itself, completely based on unauthorized samples of records from mid to late 80's electro and miami bass. Plagium is the norm here. The main beat, for example, hasn't even been originally created by a Brazilian funk producer, but comes straight from Dj Battery Brain's 808 Voltmix instrumental b-side released in 1988. Crazy, huh?

My music producer friend and me had a chance to see her live before Paper Planes was everywhere. It was at a festival and we didnt know who she was. I am still kicking myself to this day about it. Kala became the soundtrack to all our crazy teenage antics. I wanna throw my friend some love as he's always been there for me and shown me amazing music. He's just released a new track that reminds me of M.I.A, it features a female rapper who is heavily influenced by M.I.A. try searching Lonely Gimmick - Running, you may be in for a surprise and he would love to hear your opinion

Some boys in Rio since the early 90s started rapping over Miami Bass beats, called it "funk" and that was it. Funk is how we called the disco, soul and r&b mix that started a culture here in the 70-80s. Afterwards the brazilian funk beats changed into louder drums and more african-like rithims of today. The comments you see show how we actually like to learn stuff (I am being sarcastic).
Real funk (George Clinton and such) are unknown to kids of today and that's a shame here
@@rapbigze It's UK breaks, her boyfriend at the time was an unheard of guy called Diplo... That was the sound from the mid 2000's on the club seen... Obviously, if you take it to bits you can compare it to most types of music. Top UK breaks producers DJ's Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs. all wrote music with very similar sounds. A lot of them use to play the MIA track out in clubs.
@Imy mmm not exactly. M.I.A. even confirmed she was influenced by Brazilian Funk and said most of the musical inspiration for Bucky Done Gun came from a Brazilian funk song called Injecao from the singer Deize Tigrona including the trumpet samples came directly from Injecao.

@@bielugaful I'm not trying to discover where the samples came from and not giving my opinion, I'm saying what Diplo and M.I.A. said multiple times before about Bucking Done Gun. Again, M.I.A. and Diplo said they "got inspired" by Brazilian funk and specifically took samples from the music Injecao from Deize Tigrona. Probably the trumpets for injeção were also sampled from somewhere else, but if you take some time to search and listen Injecao you will notice how Bucking Done Gun is heavily influenced by it.
