Damn it's been a hella long time since Paper Planes came out.
i found this out yesterday watching her interviews.. i was shocked but she has the knowledge and wisdom of someone who is 47 years old, she’s so ahead of not only her time but our time.
You can even hear how M.I.A is telling her stories and experiences so careful almost pausing after every word cuz of the backlash she got,almost her being traumatised.
I’m so glad these two woman came together to have A CIVIL CONVERSATION and listened to each other without any “you’re racist and pro terrorist” accusations.

@@shantelane2553 M.I.A. was referring to Beyoncé in the context of the black Panther symbol she made, which was viewed as a very political stance. The same could be said of J.LO and the children in cages performance. These type of cultural events should not be used to promote political ideologies. There are plenty of places you can express your political views, although I believe people of influence on both ends of political spectrum, should be more responsible in doing so. As for what happened to Janet, no doubt it was disgusting, however, it was not about politics. She was attacked, very unfairly, for exposing a body part on a live TV. There are rules and laws against it for a reason. You can argue about JT’s involvement and whether or not it was a pre-planned stunt or accident. You can argue about the response and treatment of Janet as a woman, especially as a Black woman vs JT a White man. All of that is ok, but I don’t think anyone would see that event as some kind of political stance vs publicity stunt.

The difference between M.I.A. and Beyoncé is that M.I.A. makes music that is intentionally politically charged because it’s personal for her. Beyoncé’s performance at the Super Bowl was purely for the aesthetic of Black feminine power, which she likens to the Black power movement, but her vision of Black female power is rooted in exploitation and climbing to the top of the same system that subjugated us to begin with. The goal of the Black power movement, though different members had differing opinions, was to dismantle the system entirely so everyone could be freed, not just bougie Black people. Beyoncé herself is involved in multiple economic practices and enterprises that exploit Black women and women of color around the world. Even Elaine Brown, the former chairwoman of the Black Panther Party, came out against Beyoncé’s costume as a hollow performance without any substance or deep understanding of the movement, and people attacked Elaine for being “jealous.”
M.I.A. can cite the sources for her artistic inspiration and is actually involved in the political movements she raps about. Beyoncé & Jay Z clearly haven’t done a single reading on Black radical thought and are appropriating these movements to seem edgy and trendy. If they had done the reading, they’d realize that all the Black thinkers they keep citing were anti-capitalists, and Jay Z literally thinks the word “capitalist” is a racial slur used to malign rich Black men like himself for being hypocritical, which he is. bell hooks was right about them and we all should’ve listened to her sooner…

Sri Lanka got "Schwabbed" as in great reset equity ESG world economic forum monetary replacement theory, sounds good in a ivory tower faculty lounge, but in the real world, it's doomed to fail....I do think it's worth noting BLM Inc. dough was funneled to Act Blue and Thousand Currents, donated to white politicians, that irony is lost on the average voter, in fact, U.S. dollars funneled to Ukraine gets laundered and spread around to those at the top, for instance, each year U.S. sends $ billions to the U.N. for aids, then Fauci and Birx redirect that money to the WEF, heck, even Soros gets to wet his beak, since Soros and his boy Igor of Privat Bank inserted Zelensky into office, who do you think ends up with the U.S. billions? 🤔😳😲🤡

I absolutely adore her. If anyone's interested, a documentary about her life, her music, her struggles, and so on, titled 'Maya Matangi M.I.A.' and it's INCREDIBLE. It goes into the Superbowl incident as well as the obvious smear campaign perpetrated by the American media. Specifically the New York Times, where her team had their own version of the interview to show how skewed the released version was. Just an all around glorious woman. As an aside, the fact that she's almost fifty years old and is still so youthful and giving herself to her art and herself gives me hope as I'm pushing forty this year and I always worried about my life effectively dying at forty.

She knows a lot that’s why she’s speaking all over the place she’s just trying to get out as much as she could. What she needs to do is start a podcast and ei side by episode in long format, tell us what she knows. Respect. When the war in Syria was going on I was so heartbroken by the ugly things I saw as a result of that conflict. It didn’t have to happen like that HRC couldn’t have even tried to make it worse.
Usually it’s disappointing when I hear my favorite artists speak. But M.I.A. Is brave and totally brilliant. I’m going to listen to her music with my daughter and explain how truly cool she is on many levels.

Undisclosed settlement it says on the ESPN article. You’d have to ask her privately. It may be close to zero, but part of the deal could be she’s not allowed to talk about it. Super Bowl may feel they need to be seen to be doing something. The usual.
They are too scared to lose their endorsements and millions of dollars that they don’t have.
She leaked a bunch of the calls and stuff. It was a settlement of some sorts and I recall she mentioned she's not supposed to talk about it. At one point she had the option of paying up anything she made over 2M (if she ever made that much) to the NFL.

During Beyonce's Super Bowl performance, MIA tweeted that Beyonce should talk about wars/issues in other countries and not just focus on issues happening to Black Americans. To which she received understandable backlash. Would you interrupt a fundraiser for Cancer upset that they weren't focusing on myocarditis??? No. Beyonce had the right to focus on issues happening in HER country and community. She has no obligation to speak on issues happening in countries she's never been to and about subjects she may not be educated on. Twitter reminded her that Black Americans aren't "work mules" for other groups. And I agree!

OMG I love M.I.A. so much, and last year I didn't even know of her... I love Paper Planes and Popular... I am so proud and gobsmacked that someone as big as M.I.A. is speaking to Candace Owens with NO FILTER, and she is making so much sense... I hope millions see this and I hope it blows MIA up even more, and gives other artists like Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber *they've hinted they're not happy) Britney the courage to come forward and inspire millions of fans to stand up and say ENOUGH!
The One is her song about Jesus. While on holidays in the Caribbean staying in the dusty shack at the top of 1000 foot cliff without electricity, no internet or phone connection, she revived a mysterious message on her phone saying she was going to die. She then began to feel quite ill. Said she figured she lived a life and learned enough and right when she accepted she was going to die she saw a clear vision of Jesus appear to her in a white robe. “My vision of Jesus… he wasn’t wimpy looking. He didn’t look like he was starving and had been hung on a cross for days. He looked really strong. And it’s the strongest thing I’ve ever seen.”
The song Beep is also quite catchy. And Popular, of course.
MIA is doing what artists and musicians have done historically - speak out against the system. _Not_ toe the line. Picasso, Caravaggio, Pistols, Pink Floyd, early rap music. So much of it was about rebellion to the systems. It's only the sludge of modern society that has every musician dancing and singing with the worst forms of politicians.
And as always Candace is a great interviewer.

I hate conversations where people interrupt each other.
I wish people were able to discuss things on a more nuanced, complex, focused level respectfully. Common ground is difficult to achieve when people shut down out of frustration and refuse to hear/acknowledge the other person’s experience without getting defensive. Both political parties benefit from Us as People not coming together by bombarding us with gaslighting tactics. I’ve achieved more progress and positive change by having these hard conversations with people who are willing to listen as well as be heard.

Candace Owens needs help. With her being a woman of color, I’ve literally never heard her say anything positive about another person of color. You like her so much, but you haven’t picked up on that??? It’s okay to disagree with people on things, but she has an actual “trend” of this. You can support her all you want, but she needs help. She’s no better than a black rapper that raps about killing and harming other blacks (other people that look like them). Meaning, atleast 95% of what she says about people that most closely resemble her is negative. That’s some deep self-hatred right there. She doesn’t like people of color because she doesn’t like herself. Encourage Candace to like Herself. You say that you like her because she’s “unbiased”, when actually she IS biased. She has a bias against people of color.

Not just female artists. She inspired many mainstream artists. If you look up the celebrities that talked about her or admired her you can see.

This was really good. I loved hearing her perspective. Kudos to Candace for giving her the space to speak. It takes humility and grace to yield when someone cuts you off when speaking but sometimes it allows what needs to be heard to be said.
