  • On request here is a guide on how to use the Atrium pieces from the Vault tab added in the Vault-Tec Workshop in Fallout 4.
    Also - because I'm nice like that; I've figured a way to make 1x2 rooms for all your bathroom needs.

    The reason the atrium doesn't snap correctly, is because you're using floors (which go at the bottom) and they are only supposed to be for the middle tiles, not the walls. For those you use the atrium bottoms, which include both wall and floors.
    For higher floors, there's a different kind of tile called "hanging floors" which snap between two floors. Then there's "ceiling & floor" which you use to extend them.

    • @Cmoth040
      @Cmoth040 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I've tried using the tiles as they are labeled, and it's frustrating as Hell. There's an odd order of operation to them that takes several times, building a huge amount only to find that you can't finish it because ... well, creation engine. Using the mod to force something to snap is probably the only sane way to use the vault pieces.

    1x1 bathrooms can be made using the domestic tab. put down a Hallway and doorway piece with a wall end cap. it forms a 1x1 room for bathrooms, utility closets, etc.

  • @superslammer

    I do hope they update this DLC because there are many many things that are left out. No stalls for toilets etc... And in utility thre needs to be the same kinds of pieces as domestic. There should also be atrium high ceiling extensions to make a wider atrium.

    Unless you scrap literally everything in all of the tunnels, and use the big prefab atrium sections instead of lots of little pieces, you'll hit your settlement build size cap long before you've finished building and furnishing a decent-sized vault. You should scrap those two enormous water towers in the main chamber too, they don't do anything useful and give a decent amount of steel. If you search down one of the tunnels you'll find a big yellow Vault-Tec water pump, which supplies 100 water for 20 power.

      @lorgrenbenirus Před 8 lety +2

      Or just use a mod by DDProductions which increases the size limit of settlement. Works wonders on PC, don't know how/if it works on consoles. Better to use the mod then glitch with weapons..

    • @cliffsmith23
      @cliffsmith23 Před 8 lety

      I use a different mod (Higher Settlement Budget by GrimTech), but I haven't yet checked to see if it works in Vault 88. There are a few similar mods on Bethesda.net for console players, (just type "budget" into search) but it looks like some of them don't work in Vault 88. The gun glitch should still work though.

    The snapping issue you mention about 4 mins into the video is because you are using the base atrium floors, that are intended to be placed ground level instead of at elevation, when the game intends you to use the "hanging floors" that have support points for floors above ground level.

    • @norespawns
      @norespawns  Před 8 lety +5

      I'm using the ground floors so I can build rooms underneath - I should've mentioned that.

    • @azurechaos5353
      @azurechaos5353 Před 8 lety

      It happens with the hanging floors at times and the ceilings too, you have to put the wall in before the floor/ceiling. And also I had an easier time putting upper walls first then lower floors (except with the corner pieces, I think) even though I had my entrance on the ground level rather than raised like Davey.

  • @bitterwanderer8710
    @bitterwanderer8710 Před 8 lety +4

    I found this video to serve as a great boost in the right direction with my build, but there's a few things I noticed that may/may not be helpful for anyone else: You can make the atrium longer by a bit if you build north-south instead of east-west direction, because the build size of that main area is roughly 12 by 17 tiles, though it tapers a bit on the south end. Also, there is actually enough room height-wise to make the atrium 3 walls high (one more than shown in this video), hence there being "lower" "middle" and "top" wall pieces. And finally, when you do make the atrium maximum height, I noticed that the lights that are installed at the top of the cave ceiling helps to illuminate the high ceiling of the atrium a little.

  • @Varahn

    I like using the Clinic room for bathrooms because of the white tile. I make them 1 by 2. I put down two atrium floors first, then attach two domestic wall end caps to the atrium floors. Then I remove the atrium floors, leaving the endcaps hanging, and put two of the clinic room pieces where the floors were. It basically lets me close off the clinic room using end caps that wouldn't normally snap to them if I put the room pieces down first. If that makes sense.... ;-).

    btw something i learned when using the stairs - and i compared this to other vaults in the game - you want to use one of the two tilts where the railing bends away to the sides, if you use these ones, the railings will nicely connect to railings left and right if you add any there - it looks better then just using either of the rounded end pieces or using the normal ones and have two metal rods sticking out - ppl will would and could impale themself on these~
    tl;dr
    use the additional floor tile in the railing tab for nice looking railing connections, but have longer stairs as a malus.

    If you don't use the pre-fabs then you need a lot more pieces, which uses a lot more of you're settlement budget, and you might think "Oh well I can just cheat, or use glitches, or use a mod and get a bigger settlement" the problem with that is the more pieces not only does it use more budget it also completely rapes your performance

    I'm going for a metro kind of vault too, using the new doors they added to at the other entrances to the different sections.

    For bathrooms and such I use the domestic tab hallway&door thing then snap a wall piece at the end

      I did similar thing for ''hallway bathrooms'' Domestic hallway to doorway, doorway to hallway, cap the end and bam! 1x1 bathroom with door.

    For the bridge you have used a 4 way crossing. There is a 3 way crossing, which would look a lot better.

    I've decided to build a regular looking vault, then redesign it to make it look like my character has found it and taken it over, then for the rest of the place make undrrground shanty town-like structures, this area would be the perfect and most realistic place to use the boxcars for building structures

    the atrium as bathrooms, I like that. i need to mess with this because I have rebuilt my vault 8 times and each time I just dislike the overall thing due to the atrium being more than anything, useless and the wrong way so putting things off of it becomes a literal pain.

  • @RoraxPlays
    @RoraxPlays Před 8 lety +2

    Yeeeaaahh I'm not sure what Bethesda was thinking making the opening cavern wider than it is long. It means if you want a huge atrium you need to snake the entrance around so it starts 90 degrees from the "opening" Or have the the entrance to the atrium on the side of the atrium. Or have the overseers office on the side.... Like... why? ungh

    My Atrium is Huge (titter ye not), 3 floors with two 3x3 rooms on each side on each floor plus large rooms at each end on each floor (including a 2 story room for my character) plus 2 additional floors of utility rooms that are behind the Atrium roof where my power plant sits. I still haven't fully completed some of the rooms but I have a Hydroponics section, Clinic, Cafeteria, Common Room, Gym, Bathrooms (which I will now edit based on some of the comments seen here) as well as an Overseers office. I haven't expanded past the first cavern (although I did hook up power to the water system) and have already way more space than my Vault Dwellers seem to need.
    If I could find time to work out how to make videos on the Xbox I would post up a quick tour.
    Got some good tips from your video though. Thanks!

    Put in the stairs after the railings, that helps a bunch with the snapping.

    I think the best way to use the space is making a big vault in the atrium and littler different vaults in the other sectors you unlock.

  • @youreveningcoat
    @youreveningcoat Před 8 lety

    With the atrium end pieces you have to make the atrium one deeper because walls don't snap perpendicular to the end pieces to create a corner. And now your atrium is fucking enormous.

      Mods - use settlement size unlock or you can use normal game you used to be able to glitch something and it would expand the size. Hope that helps.

    for blood stains you can drop a manila folder and go into your build menu and pick the folder up and put it on the blood stain then pick it back up and no more blood stain.

    actually this vault can be gigantic if you've activated every section; It stretches from the entrance to university point pharmacy to Milton general hospital, so it's one of the largest settlements.
