      Except most fired from their jobs for making a medical choice could have done that job from home and became destitute and on the brink of poverty. Which kills people a lot of the time.
      And some whose businesses were closed literally jumped off of bridges because their entire life's work has been destroyed for a cold

    • @UnicornOfRainbows
      @UnicornOfRainbows Před 10 měsíci

      @@cftyftyufyfuyfty Making a medical choice is definitely a personal choice and no one should have the right to tell you what to do with your body, but it's also in the companies right to protect their employees from sickness, especially a deadly virus. Potentially contracting a virus because you refuse to get medical help (under the circumstance that you can get medical help; I'm aware some people have existing medical conditions that make it difficult to do so) and then passing that to other people is dangerous and irresponsible. Virus multiply, so even just one person not taking precautions can be devastating to the entire population (see: our recent pandemic). If you're going to be in contact with other person, you need to be aware of the effect you have on them. That being said, it truly sucks for the people who could've done their jobs from home but were fired instead, as well as the ones whose businesses closed. It is a very sad thing and condolences to those who experienced it.

    To be fair, Henry Ford REDUCED the average workweek. It wasn't for altruistic reasons, but yeah, it definitely went down.

      true

    • @wombat4583
      @wombat4583 Před 10 měsíci +14

      Henry Ford didn't want to reduce it - I don't know why so many people think he did. There were continuous protests from workers/labour force/union (whatever you want to call it) that even got violent at points because of how much resistance he had.
      So yeah, even if his work space technically reduced the average workweek eventually, I still think he's someone worth boo-ing.

    • @AlterationA
      @AlterationA Před 10 měsíci +5

      @wombat4583 There are many things worth booing about Henry Ford, not the least of which was flagrant anti-semitism. But while the unions did most of the good fight, large scale change wouldn't have happened without implementation at the corporate level. With that, Ford pressed for the two-day weekend, but he did so citing the (true) fact that overworked employees are less productive, thus meaning all corporations with overworked employees are essentially paying for more hours with drastically diminished returns. He also wanted the average American citizen to have more free time to incentivize them to buy cars and purchase more luxuries.

    • @wombat4583
      @wombat4583 Před 10 měsíci +4

      @@AlterationA That's like saying people in power an authority ultimately have to be the one to make the change. It's true as it's structural so the only other option is an overhaul of a system no matter how small or large, but by that logic most people aren't the real instigators for change. We shouldn't be praising people - whether it's individuals or governments - for giving in to other people's logic just because they hold power.

    I find it so bizarre how they frame technology as meaning less/worse/shorter friendships. Like…. technology literally makes it even easier to find and make friends and gives you a farther reach for possible friends. Because of the internet and video games I have friends in other countries and continents I’d otherwise have no way of ever meeting if I don’t have access to that sort of travel. I can sit at my desk in America and make friends in Israel and Europe! The game we met through even has regional servers that not all of us are on the same ones so wouldn’t even necessarily meet in the game itself (though some of us do have characters on multiple servers) but the game has a forum and there’s CZcams channels and Discords! Two Youtbers I watch also met through a Pokémon competition years ago and are still friends and do a LOT of collabs and have travelled to meet in person!

Hence why when a new one pops up that we *haven't* seen and studied before, it's a global crisis. 2. Some school districts will close everything if the school with the earliest start time can't be open without delay. For example, my old public school district would cancel if it wasn't safe to drive by 9AM, even if it was fine by 10AM, because the earliest start time with a 2 hour delay would be 9:15AM.

    We had somewhat of an uproar in the recent days I think from Facebook actually. A boomer posted about how teacher back in the 60s' and 70s' used to teach kids manners and respect. Boy oh boy the entitlement is high. Some people said it's the same generation that raised kids to be terrible and to act that way. I guess people expect others to put in the work they have to but don't want to. Ipads and tvs are fine. If you're in Italy just tune in to channel 57 or 23 or 54 something and you have something for all ages. People refuse to see the good in things. I've seen also a lady say she ditched technology to live a slow life. I mean it's going to take you 10 minute to heat up your coffee on the stove but oh well... Microwaves are bad and promote fast paced lives I guess.
    For context on the tv channels. One is Rai Scuola: a channel made for schools as the name suggests. So more family friendly documentaries on nature or places around the world. They used to be more geared to kids in the past but the programming got really boring and they'd play the same two shows in a row. Now they're better. The second one is Rai 5 where they show general culture stuff. Documentaries on cities or nature or arts, informative content and sometimes even stream theater plays. The last one is Rai Storia where they play documentaries and shows based on history. I think I've watched on there a full documentary ocne on the music band Duran-Duran as it's still related to history. I think they also play things related to historical occurrencies. Basically things that happened on that day in the past. All three channels are good and solid channels full of informative stuff. Heck I once watched a full documentary on Rai Scuola about the fauna that populates the city of Rome. I was shocked at how many animals and birds live there. And I've been to Rome.

    to explain the "your going to be that person at 38 and has a 1year old" thing, I am that kid. My parents were exactly 40 when they had me and it shows. My parents tried their best (at least i know my mom sure as hell does) and the generation gap puts up A LOT of walls that a kid doesnt know how to tear down so i have just started working a few things out now, a couple decades too late.
    Im not that close to my parents despite living with them and them being good to me because i have nothing to relate to them with. Things that they hold as common courtesy is no longer common, phrases they use arent just unpopular but nonexistent and most of all they dont have good health or as much energy anymore complete with entirely different ideas of family activities. That is just my problems with older parents, not even the parents side.
    My parents regret having their kid worry for their health, regret not being able to remember things that well due to the pile of health issues that come with age and regret having less time to share knowledge before their minds go but most of all; they lament that they have a very short time to share their life experience with their kids.
    TLDR having a kid at 38 is cool and all but that kid wont be able to connect well with their parents and any decent parent will regret being too old in their kids early adult years to help them through life.
