Somebody ought to take an octagonal cymbal and put a stop sign reflector on it honestly I don't know that stop signs are worthy of being ride cymbals. i think they're only worthy of being ride symbols.
I have been both the one tuning and the one playing the drums, and i gotta say, it's already noise, doesn't make it worse. And god dammit I can't not play then.
I really like how dry that wonderful red cymbal is, it's almost like it's not designed to make noise but rather to be some sort of device to tell people to not crash
I love the subtle geometry of the red cymbal's bell. You can clearly see that the shape was carefully honed with tonal consistency in mind, attention paid to preserving the cymbal's overwhelmingly dry quality. And then to top it off with hammering so delicate that most trained eyes would be hard pressed to find the hammer's witness marks. Truly, this is the work of an artist
When you find yourself kind of liking the stop sign, not because it sounds good, but because Wade is so talented you find the musicality of the tap, tap, tapping so relaxing.
That first ᵈᵒⁿᵏ sound it made in comparison to the crash of the dark ride was the most comedically unimpressive sound it could have made. Absolutely brilliant.
I can’t explain it. But I love it. Musically it’s horrible, but like a cowbell or wooden block satisfying. And the editing between the 2 is just funny. Quality work here boys. I think I will watch it again.
I know right? I just like the *tck tck tack tack tck* sound it’s kinda satisfying in a weird way, and I think it’d be really funny to have some guy sitting behind the drummer off to the side just surrounded by unconventional replacement instruments, tapping away to the rest of the band.
You should start a weekly series where you drill holes into random junk and test their prowess as cymbals. Just imagine, scrap car metal, a large food plate, the microwave glass plate, a tambourine, an LA Ice plastic bottle, the possibilities are endless!
i can't explain why, but hearing it just _thud_ when i was expecting at least a bit of flex made me lose my grip and laugh myself to the floor. thank you wade.
this is what I love about music, a lot of things don't sound great by themselves but once you combine them with different things you can do a lot of things that are just borderline magic.
It's basically just a tapping noise, the rhythm is good but the actual sound isnt too far off something like tapping your nails on a desk. Still a nice vibe tho.
The best part is that it doesn't even sound bad. It just doesn't sound, at all. I can barely hear it when other parts of the drum set are playing. The sound doesn't change when different parts are hit. What little there even is to begin with.
I kinda want a company to make actual functional cymbals that look like stop signs and shit of that nature. Get me some hi-hats that look like hub caps while we’re at it.
Just have this stop sign for the end of the set. Refuse to hit it until the final note of the set where you scream STOP, hit he sign, and everyone throws tomatoes at you.
The transition from 0:47 to 0:55 is like going from a nice decent walk through Adelaide City and then one thing happening to you that ruins your good mood for the rest of the walk.
I was not expecting it to sound like just tapping on cardboard- like, it is flat as the horizon sound wise and as loud as snapping your fingers underwater… and I love it XD
the video is so well made. It’s objectively captivating to the point that it doesn’t matter as much what the video is actually about. It’s a perfect comparison of the two cymbals.
That first bonk had me rolling on the floor. I do feel like something that makes that bonk sound could be a cool effect cymbal to have as part of a kit, just not replacing the ride.
The difference between the lovely "crash" of the Dark Ride and the "tick" of the Stop sign on the first hit made me belly laugh. This video is hilarious 😂
dry, yet buttery smooth, intense undertones, brings out the natural sound of the sticks. amazing. i hope to see Stop Sign Ride Cymbal (18in.) in all matters of music
That was so unbelieveable absurd I love it. I was choking I was laughing so hard when you would cut back to the stop sign. I will admit I was surprised how flat the stop sign sounded, I didn't think that stuff they put on it would affect it so much. Fantastic video. EDIT: Upon rewatching I have decided it is a practice ride cymbal!
I unironically love this “cymbal”. Sure, you can have the fancy cymbals that ring out and make some gorgeous sounds. But that stop sign “cymbal”… was just other worldly.
When we were kids, there was a sign dump nearby. We went to the sign dump, took signs, hung them on the wall in my room. They were heavier than we expected (steel) and larger than we expected. I had no idea the whole time I had a really really awful sounding bad cymbal on my wall. Now I do. I learned something today.
Actually kinda sounds dope. Definitely not as a cymbal but as a percussive sound it's unique enough that it would stand out and people would wonder what it is.
I’ve got a crazy idea: what if… and hear me out… what if we took like a huge 30” inch ride cymbal, cut it into a hexagon, and put a huge “STOP” sticker on it. It would look like a stop sign with a hump in the middle and sound like a ruined cymbal, it’s just like in the video, only combined, to make a somewhat tolerable mess
I'd suggest trying out sawblades! A local austrian band called Wolfram and The Funeral Orchestra use those as cymbals and it's so odd, would love to hear your thoughts on that 😆
This is interesting. By presenting a side by side, you've enabled me to start hearing the same stick noise on the actual cymbal that was previously overshadowed by the shimmering tone.
My favorite unconventional "cymbal" is a galvanized steel trash can lid. Putting it on a stand isn't an option (because it's ungainly and tips any stand I've tried to put it on) so I drove a screw into the rafter above my kit and hung it using a piece of clothesline.
No matter how much I knew how it was gonna sound and no matter how much the video warned me, I still wanted to believe it would sound like a real cymbal.
Look man, I had a rough day at work, and then a terrible bike ride, just to find out the park I wanted to go to was closed. But this video made me grin ear to ear so thanks for ending my shitty day on a high note.
Thank you for this. Exactly what I was looking for after a long day of listening to customers complain about their internet. Keep up the great art, mate. Cheers!

I had zero expectations going into this video. The moment that you struck that stop sign and it made a somehow moist sounding thunk, I laughed harder than I have an a long time
I must admit, if nothing else, the aesthetic of having a stop sign as your ride is pretty baller.
Call Zildjian for a Proper *Custom* Dark Ride K.
@dove It literally seems like something Jamie Hewlett would draw for a Gorillaz promo
Like this, but an actual custom cymbal? Would be sick ngl
you could anodise a rocktagon potentially

honestly I don't know that stop signs are worthy of being ride cymbals. i think they're only worthy of being ride symbols.

augh i always spent that time practicing stick tricks lmao
@@etheraelespeon1986 That's fair, get stiffed on enough gigs and I'd be turning tricks to make ends meet too.

The stop cymbal really brings out the wood tone in the drum stick 10/10
Well it DID stop the effectiveness of the setup.
Finally a good argument for tone wood
