I’m so glad I stumbled onto your video, because I’ve had this game in my collection for over a year and I have yet to play it because the rules seemed so complex. Now that I sat through this play through I feel confident that I can finally teach this to others and get this game to the table! Thanks for the great explanation video!!!!
You and I are buying the same games it seems, I just got this and Islebound. Really enjoy your play through both solo and with Francis. I can't wait to watch this later and keep up the great work.
Hi, I'm a recent subscriber (found you through a Pursuit of Happiness playthrough) and I'm so glad I did! I really enjoy the professional presentation, and the way you introduce the rules without bogging down the gameplay. It's much appreciated. The fact that there are two of you playing really helps. I'm not a massive Euro fan, but I see some of your older ones cater for my trashy tastes.
Another great video. I love how Francis is always smiling. Anyway, not that I saw this being aproblem for you, but you might find the scoring track a little easier to manage if you use the colored wooden cylinders on the scoring track and the wooden "Top hat" meeples on the initiative track. For a two player game this is usually not an issue, but is definitely the way to go for a four player game as you can stack the cylinders. Don't have the rules handy, but I *believe* this is the setup that's illustrated in the rulebook as well.
Wow! Your video got me entertained for over six hours. I immediately ordered the game including the gift expansion. Game got me hooked. Very comprehensive review at the end and love the play through. Will you also be doing the Dhalgaard Academy kickstarter later this year? You guys make so helpful videos. Keep going. Kind regards from the Netherlands
1:03:30 - Anthony spent two (2) Shards to gain action points. Shards can only be spent one per character to increase action points by one. 1:05:35 - Also, Action points spent to decrease good prices decreases the TOTAL cost of the goods you buy. 2 x $2 goods = $4 - 1 AP Discount = $3.
Great job you guys, and the thing Francis was talking about might be that there is limited room at the theater and when someone else is there they still take up space in the theater therefore they are charged accordingly, maybe just a thought. Tks
Nice Trick...er...ion..? I noticed the shirts you guys were wearing during the opening and closing comments were different than the ones you're wearing during the play thru! Next time, add a puff of smoke between the segments for extra added effect! As always, great play-thru!
It would be great to see a focused example of the theatre and tile placement for the performances. I didn't quite get why you couldn't just rotate your tiles to match icons etc.
You have to place your marker so the icon that matches the trick type you're performing is in one of the circles. If you're doing an illusion trick, the eye icon has to be in a circle.
This is the game that hit all the sweet spots I was looking in a board game. Theme, mechanics and the part that I love the most is the replayability of the game with the vast number of magician powers available in combination with different prophecies. Frances it seems that we share the same kind of tastes when it comes to board games. If you known of any other games that are as good as trickerion please let us know about them. Looking forward for your videos and I'm sure you'll do Anachrony gameplay as wel for sure.
I would also highly recommend something like the Meeple Realty Insert to speed up "Set Up" and "Tear Down" of this game! I agree with virtually all of your comments. I love this game but the hardest part of it is sitting down and teaching it to a new player!
Awesome! This is Frances - this one has a special place in my heart because it’s the first game I picked up at a con before anyone knew what it was. Back when we could still “treasure hunt” and Mindclash was just a baby :-) I taught it and it was a hit!
@@AntLabGamesI loved the various mechanisms in play and building up the tricks like a tech tree of sorts (with the materials). Getting a level 36 trick seems like a fantasy after 1 play…can’t wait to try again
Oh I'm not out of the solo game...just need to find something that Frances doesn't like. Just kidding! Any suggestions for a game you'd like to see solitaire soon? I will see if I have something in queue that I can move up. Thanks!
Watching this many years later, but I wonder if the Dawn of Technology expansion and its signature tricks element fixed the theme flaw Anthony had with the game (assuming that they’ve played with it).
In round 5, you could have used an action point in the theater to move your trick off tthe 3rd card to another card to prevent losing them when the card was discarded at the end of the round. Though you wouldn't get a link bonus when you moved it to the new card, but you might have been able to place them in a way so that when you set up another trick you could've made 2 links with that trick.
When you have the manager and you buy components, they can go direcrly on the manager board if you have empty spaces there. Same with the engineer. You can place a trick you learn on the Engineer's board without putting it in your workshop first.
Don’t you have to take the specialist’s action to do that? Also, when Frances retrieved her apprentice at 1:13:16, shouldn’t she put him/her on her base apprentice slot and then use her assistant’s special action to move him/her to the assistant’s slot?
Frances is generally a newcomer to the hobby. I've been around since getting my first real game: Heroquest, back when it was released. I think a top 10 is coming once 2016 comes to a close.
Máté Nógrádi Exactly. If you put your magician in the stage, you’re just reserving your chance to perform in the Performance step, while if you put any worker (including the magician) behind the stage, you can immediately add/move truck markers to/from performance cards, just like you would do in any other location where you’re taking an action
On multiple occasions, (1:26:00 being one of them), Frances spends 2 AP preparing Wolf Cage and another trick. But Wolf Cage has a threshold of 16 and by itself would cost 2 AP.
At 28:55, Anthony spent a Shard to give an Apprentice an extra action point. The Shard didn't have to be spent because the Mechaniker's special ability is that an Apprentice can be given an extra action point for free once per round. (It's possible that Anthony is saving the ability for his other Apprentice though. I won't know until I get there.)
23:15 when you learn a new trick of your owm school you don’t have to pay for the die,but just turn it on X side1[1die must be available],and pay the price for a new learning...?
Yes, you can always learn a trick of your own school no matter what is available on the die. But you still have to have a die available to turn to an X.
Have you even considered add a BGM to your videos? I love your talking but sometimes you just do things without meaningful words . So maybe a BGM will fill the blanket. Just wish you would be better 😀
The set up isnt accurate: red tokens on thé board should be placed elsewhere, leaving only the strongest and thé weakest action modifiers avalaible for the players and there should not be any in thé theatre...
They are using the Duel of Magicians add-on, which has cards you reveal at the beginning of each round that tell you which spots on the board are locked
Well, it is a playthrough. If you knew the rules, you would perfectly understand what they're doing. I don't think it's a mess at all. Actually, it is a good video to get a grasp of how the gameplay flows.
If I didn’t know (at least partly) the rules, I may be thinking the video wasn’t very clear in some parts; but if you come in somewhat informed, this is a very good playthrough video that shows all the mechanics this game has working together
When describing the theme to someone who's not aware of the game, I tell them it's the movie 'The Prestige', in a box.
That usually seals the deal!

Watched this recently while i was learning Trickerion.....fun to see how far your production has come! 🙂
Those old videos are fun to visit!
Awesome work. You have very good chemestry on camera, and i loved the summary in the end. Please keep the videos coming!

1:30:00 “Just make sure you’re positive that that’s what you want to do.” Love this comment from Frances. Then Anthony’s nervous laugh after.

Reuben Debono thought about adding subtle BGM, but I don't want that to be distracting.
I would also highly recommend something like the Meeple Realty Insert to speed up "Set Up" and "Tear Down" of this game! I agree with virtually all of your comments. I love this game but the hardest part of it is sitting down and teaching it to a new player!
Trickerion and Lesboa, both I think have similar interrelated elements. Both inspired games.
Just got Trickerion - this was my go-to video to learn of course.
Awesome man, what are your thoughts on the game?

@@AntLabGameslove this. All love you guys did 2 videos on it.
I love that both of you are playing together. I haaaaate the new intro song. Bring back the techno.
I thought everyone loves dub step...
I also love the duo play throughs... but Ant, please tell us you're not giving up on solo playthroughs too? Your're one of the very best.
Oh I'm not out of the solo game...just need to find something that Frances doesn't like. Just kidding! Any suggestions for a game you'd like to see solitaire soon? I will see if I have something in queue that I can move up. Thanks!

great review, any thoughts of doing both of your top 10's....how long have you both been in hobby gaming ?
Frances is generally a newcomer to the hobby. I've been around since getting my first real game: Heroquest, back when it was released. I think a top 10 is coming once 2016 comes to a close.
Heroquest..! Whoa showing that age there..lol, I as well had both Heroquest and Advanced HQ ( showing my age as well )
at 2:36:49 She would only gotten 3 Links rewards not 4. The Optical Tricks are not in a Circle hence not linked.
Hi. Correct me if i wrong: when u place a disk on theather u use them immediately unless u put the magician disk on perform action.
Have you guys played this again since this recording?
guess not :(
1:03:29 You can only spend one shard ;)
On multiple occasions, (1:26:00 being one of them), Frances spends 2 AP preparing Wolf Cage and another trick. But Wolf Cage has a threshold of 16 and by itself would cost 2 AP.
The AP needed to prep Wolf Cage is only one. Trick Level and required AP to prep aren't always the same.
When you replace a trick and you have trick markers in the theater for the replaced trick, you lose those markers.
2:34:55 That's not a link circle between the 2 spots in row 2. :)
At 28:55, Anthony spent a Shard to give an Apprentice an extra action point. 1:05:34 Barter effects the final price not the unit price. Such a cheater LOL
RagnaRØKS cheating is never intentional. Rules misinterpretations are closer the what actually happens in these circumstances.
Of course. I was just being cheeky. :)
RagnaRØKS I know! You wouldn't believe some of the harsh comments we do get that I have to delete. Internet can be a sad place sometimes.
Have you even considered add a BGM to your videos? I love your talking but sometimes you just do things without meaningful words . So maybe a BGM will fill the blanket. Just wish you would be better 😀
blank😓 Sorry for my English

I found it to be a bloated mess. They didn't edit.
What exactly are you referring to?
Well, it is a playthrough. If you knew the rules, you would perfectly understand what they're doing. I don't think it's a mess at all. Actually, it is a good video to get a grasp of how the gameplay flows.
