  • Ford Performance has an ehtusats car in almost every market segment and thanks to depreciation, the Focus and the Fiesta ST are now similarly priced. The Fiesta has amazing dynamics while the Focus has intoxicating horsepower. Which one is more fun? Join me as we put them to the test in the switchback turns of Vermont.

    I've had two FoST. Loved them. Went big turbo on one and the other stayed relatively stock. Just recently picked up a FiST and God bless America!!! Love the little thing. It's certainly not as refined and the interior feels much cheaper but it's got plenty of power in the low range and handles like a go kart. Definitely a fun ride. Can't go wrong with either the FoST or FiST. If I could stuff the 2.0 into the FiST and keep the weight close to stock, that would definitely make it phenomenal.

    The fact that FiST weighs ~500lbs lighter than the FoST, makes it the automatic winner in my book. It's easier to make a car faster, but very difficult to make it lose that sort of weight.

      @cameronjohnson1789 Před 5 lety

      Rush this is a bit late, but the front wheel drive on both cars makes it a big problem when you add more power because the tires will just spin and you won’t get much more out of a lighter car

      @findingrush Před 4 lety +5

      @@cameronjohnson1789 Agree, these aren't cars I would tune for big horsepower and straight line speeds, a RWD or AWD would suit that purpose much better. With hot hatches, it's about the balance of having enough power to not overwhelm the chassis and be able to carry a lot of speed through corners. Hot hatches are all about the handling and fun IMO.

    I'm considering getting either a Fiesta or Focus ST. I owned a 2016 Focus ST (ST3) for 3 years before trading it in on a 2017 Focus RS (that was re-engined with a brand new 2018 engine by Ford). Honestly I wish I just kept the Focus ST. There was nothing wrong with the RS, however honestly I found it was not as fun (or practical) to drive on the street as the ST.
    The RS was truly only fun for me if I was driving it at 8/10ths or more of what it was capable of either at autocross or track. Just carving up some twisties and throttling out, the Focus ST was more enjoyable (had a Stage 1 tune from FSWerks on it, made power delivery much more linear instead of all up front and a lot more torque).
    Fast forward to now, I have a 2007 4Runner that's my daily driver, winter, dog, and hauling vehicle and a 2021 Mustang Mach 1 Handling Package for my fun car. I'm thinking about a Fiesta or Focus ST as a 3rd car mainly as a daily driver so I'm not using the 4Runner as much (pretty awful MPG and it's big and heavy) as well as a fun joy ride vehicle to take out with the dogs, and a fun car to drive in the winter I don't care so much about (the Mach 1 doesn't see the winter roads).
    I know I really enjoyed the Focus ST, but I lot of people rave about the Fiesta ST. I don't really *need* the room since I have the 4Runner to haul when needed. Main concern is if the back seats would be too small for the dogs, but I think it'd probably be fine. Aside from that would mostly be concern over refinement, road noise, suspension bumpiness, how it handles freeways, etc. Most of the time it seems used, well spec'ed Fiesta and Focus STs in decent shape under 80k miles are pretty similar in price. If the Fiesta ST were much cheaper, it'd make it more appealing, but in my searching it's usually not.

    I had a fiesta st and loved it. I am in the process of trying to decide if I'm going to get another fiesta st (maybe even the newer 3 cylinder one) or the focus st. I need some advice from anyone willing to offer...
    I think we all know the fiesta st is a superior handling car. What I'm trying to learn is, from factory, which is better at what it does, which is better all around (performance and daily driving... that new 3 cylinder seems prime with that very good regular driving mpg), which is better with small mods (ie an access port tuner), which fiesta st is better (the 4 cylinder or the 3) and lastly, is there a better alternative to these mentioned Ford vehicles (GTI, BRZ, WRX etc) for the price point either new or old?
    Thanks in advance for anyone who helps!

      I personally prefer the lighter more exciting handling of the fiesta but the focus is a blast. If you’re looking for a more powerful experience it’s definitely worth it. I personally like the fiesta better overall but drive both see which one works best for you. Focus RS though.... not sure haven’t driven one yet but that is probably worth the upgrade.

    I probably have one of the higher mileage Fists on the road at 112k and that’s with a 93 octane Cobb stage 1 tune since 60k miles and I drive it pretty hard. No real issues and to this day, for the past five years I always enjoy getting in this car and driving it. Definitely plenty of smiles per gallon with this little hot hatch. I can vouch the car is reliable if you maintain it and it is just so fun to drive, feels much faster than it is and what else could you ask for?? You can’t push these modern muscle cars like the Demon and such but you can push this one all day and not worry as much about going to jail. To top is off it gets 34 mpg on the highway even with the stage one tune. The only other car I really want right now in my budget is the new 86 and I really do like the new Miatas as well, preferably hard top.

    • @CarsandComments
      @CarsandComments  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it! I have bombed around Boston quite a bit in my fiesta and it’s an excellent city car. More than ample power for going for a gap in traffic and the small size makes it super nimble and easy to park. The focus will give a smoother ride though so I would drive a fiesta to see if it it’s to stiff for rough urban roads. It isn’t for me personally but I can see where someone may think that in which case the focus may be better. If the ride works for you though I’d say the fiesta is the urban weapon you’re looking for!

    • @bongodave13
      @bongodave13 Před 5 lety +2

      I've lived in Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles. For the city, lighter and smaller rules. You'll just never use the power of a big motor. You'll deal with the inevitable traffic jams, and just sit there in the bumper to bumper. The Fiesta will be more agile and burn less gas. It also has a tighter turning radius. The Focus is cushier, but not as tight. In either car, be ready for a stiff ride.

    • @CarsandComments
      @CarsandComments  Před 5 lety +2

      The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is actually a surprisingly good tire. I thought the same thing you did when they were recommended to me but they are actually a really good performance tire for the ST. They unfortunately do not make Michelin PS4s that fit the stock rims and the Firestones are a very common upgrade from the OEM potenzas. I’ve been very happy with them as a performance tire and they offer more grip than the stock Bridgestones. Check them out on tire rack they may surprise you! Thanks for commenting!

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants Před 5 lety +1

      Those tires are probably the most commonly chosen summer tires for the Fiesta ST. They're a redesigned updated Bridgestone RE11 I believe. They're great in wet and dry, the only time I've noticed I need more grip is during autocross in a small tight course. It's pretty difficult to reach the tires limits on the roads.
