E38 all the way. My father has 1995 y, 750iL and still cherishes this car to this day. He owns this car for 19 years, and it still goes smoothly.

I owned both the E23 (728i) and the E32 (735i). Head gaskets failed on both of them, and the dashboard electronics on the E32 were a nightmare. Aside from that, the E32 was one of my favorite cars ever! Still remember it fondly...
Yes, cooling systems were a weak spot. My 528i suffered a similar fate, although I was largely to blame.
Sad. I had a first gen. It was awesome. Very athletic. I'm saddened by the gargantuan growth of cars and trucks over the years.
Ive got a G12 myself, but the E38 is just the Boss, its to die for.

It was a much necessary change. BMW needed to move forward and at the time the E65, E65 7er served as a technological example. I've owned the E65, it is very comfortable and nice to drive but the E38 is something you feel like you can drive for a long time and not get bored of it. I am looking to get an E39 M5 as I really love the M62 and S62 platform. The E65 has it's ups and downs in terms of reliability. The older it gets, the more people appreciate it and the same will apply to all older variants of the 7er

Absolutely agree. Had an E39 too (5-series) and I think that was his masterwork. Notice how the front light covers and the taillights are identical in shape: what class. Still looks nice today, without shouting "MONEY".

I've owned an e32, currently own an e38 msport, 540it wagon and e34 540i6. I'm fortunate to say the least. The e38 wins hands down. Hope the bmw designers look at these comments sometime, feel some guilt. Lol
BMW should open a factory restoration program for the E38 7-Series and E39 5-Series. From the late 90’s to early 00’s BMW had the best lineup ever offered by any automaker.
