    Tv show is called Grey's Anatomy and this is season 13 episode 22.
    Liam came into the ER alone. He told Arizona and Eliza that he had no parents and he felt bad. He was taken to Alex. He told Alex his head hurt and he sometimes got dizzy. They ran a CT, which showed a pituitary adenoma. His parents arrived shortly thereafter and objected to him receiving any more medical care, as their religion prohibits medical intervention. They signed him out against medical advice and took him home.
    Later, he returned to the hospital, unable to see well. His tumor was bleeding and putting pressure on his optic nerve. He said he'd tried doing what his parents said, but he prayed and prayed and God didn't help him, so he asked Alex to help him. Alex had Stephanie pretend Liam was seizing in order to get around the need for parental consent. They took him to surgery, where Amelia removed his tumor. After his surgery, his blindness subsided and he was expected to make a full recovery. His parents are very religious and opposed medical care on religious grounds. His father was firm in this belief, but his mother told Alex that God helps those who help themselves and had driven Liam to the hospital both times.

      It is a hard legal battle because yes since children ARE to young to make decisions for themselves for permanent life altering decisions (medical proceedur3w of any kind) it does fall on the parents but immediate medical need can supplant those rights but it's hard. I just wish more religious people realized if there is a higher power like God (I'm agnostic personally I'm not outright denying of faith like a atheist I just want proof) they gave humans our advanced intelligence to do things to our earthly bodies like treat illness that God can't from his higher existence.

    • @AdamPsencik
      @AdamPsencik Před 28 dny +55

      This is a tricky situation for someone who works in healthcare, but in the end 'child's intracranial pressure rising' with 'risk of death and permanent disability' would in fact outweigh the parental rights to refuse treatment for their child.
      When someone is unstable, we have to stabilize them, no matter what others say - unless it's for example, a hospice situation on DNR, or a living will, or refusal of informed consent while they still have all their mental faculties for treatment.
      Seeing as this is a child there is no chance whatsoever that these scenarios exist, which means - we stabilize them, and take them for brain surgery, and if the parents object, we have security handle it.
      The courts can figure it out after, but we have a duty to save someone's life that outweighs any religious belief out there. You have the freedom to believe what you believe, you don't have the freedom to use your beliefs to make a decision that would result in your child's death.

      That's when the doctor should tell the parents "God brought your child to me, so that I could do God's will, I am a tool of God." Whether the Doctor is a believer or not, isn't the point, it's to make the parents see sense that doctors have a purpose, to save their child. If you put God into the equation, then the parents can't really go against God, in fact it probably would calm the parents also cause they would see the doctor as sent by God to help.

    Not sure how it works in the US, but in Europe children have some autonomy over their health. If a child asks about their condition we can’t lie to them, we have to tell them the truth and if the child requests something their parents don’t agree with, we can call the social services or the judge to examine the situation and make the doctors the child’s temporary guardians if the parents want to put their child in dangerous situation

Using that argument, it was God's will that hospitals exist and that medicine advanced and that there were people who were competent enough to become doctors did become them. God only helps those who help themselves and he gave them all the tools they needed to get that boy to a hospital. I don't worship the Abrahamic God, but if you do, good for you. I’ve come to the point where we humans like to use any instance to justify our beliefs but if you really look at the world in an objective view there’s always something that can refute one’s beliefs. Such as the idea of karma. Why do we always say it’s karma if someone gets what they deserve, yet plenty of people die and suffer for no reasons. Same with being blessed. Why do good people get blessed by god yet there are senseless historical events like the holocaust. It all seems to be cherry picked and there’s no singular belief that can explain everything. I would like to imagine if god really did exist, things like the holocaust, and people’s good will wouldn’t be exploited “god works in mysterious ways!” Well if god is working in such a way where over 6 million of his own people die, that’s not mysterious that’s just cruel. Idk why I’m using ww2 as an example but it’s been on my mind lately.

    • @NobleKanna
      @NobleKanna Před 24 dny

      @@mcdonaldtrump7635 *In Long Words*: I get what you mean, but the devil still exists if you believe in God. The answer to that would be because of the devil. God is only allowing it because of humans being able to make their own decisions which lead to mass murder/slavery/etc to happen in the first place. If God were to interfere with that then we wouldn't have free will of which he basically promised us here. Unfortunately the reason why there's more bad in the world than good is because we're living in a world controlled by the devil himself, so therefore bad things like that will happen because of his influence on people, and other things like diseases/viruses/etc.
      The real people to blame here are humanity themselves. Free will is something that's dangerous primarily because some people have no self control and get easily influenced.
      *Relating to this video*: The reason why God "didn't help" the child was mainly the parents fault because as you can see on the other comments in this video the parents were basically testing God by going "Ah just pray to God even though you have something that could kill you because we're too lazy and ignorant to take you to the doctors and because *God is going to heal you anyways*". Unfortunately because of the parents decision this episode happened. God would of course help the child with a speedy recovery, but he gave us/the doctors the skill to be able to help with things like this already so if he healed him then there would have been no point in the doctors to begin with.
      *In shorter words*: The bad things happen because we live in a world controlled by the devil along with humanity's free will. Those two things don't go together, the devil will influence you into doing bad in anyway he can. God gave us the ability to learn for a reason, there's a reason doctors exists and if God just healed the child entirely then there would have been no point in the doctor nor praying for the sake of the child health. The fact that the child was even brought to begin with was still somewhat enough to show that God cares about the child's health unlike the ignorant hyper religious parents.

    • @norabarnes9235
      @norabarnes9235 Před 28 dny

      No there is treatment that *could* work. Oftentimes it makes the patient sicker, because the goal is money not the health of a person. If people were healthy, no more money would flow, and often treatments keep going long after there is no hope, bc the doctors say "well maybe a miracle will happen" but the only thing that happens is a persons quality of life goes down in their final hours and money goes into big pharma. The exact same thing here--Hollywood pushes out religious fanatics in dramas, bc it not only makes for good drama, it turns people away from god. And yes, you DO have fanatics like this in real life too, bc people get trapped in it, then foist it on others, then if someone breaks away, they turn from God. It's all one huge cycle. Meanwhile, alternative medicine is seen as laughable, woo woo, crazy, garbage, and in some cases in some countries, "illegal" bc believing it is "dangerous" but what that really means is big pharma is in danger of not getting money when people turn to other things. All this is to say, is the treatment in your comment you say "would work" doesn't always. I'd say you need a mix of God, doctors, medicines, even open mind to alternative medicines. Gods not always going to magically heal a person, but he will direct them to someone or something that can help and THATS the prayer being answered. This boy says he prayed and prayed and prayed--well he ended up in a hospital with doctors who would listened to him and want his best (bc it's a show, but no, not all doctors want your best) IMO God answered, but not in the way the parents wanted or prepared the boy to expect. But it's not as easy as fasciteaously saying "there is treatment that would work" when that's not always true-people turn away and scoff at God and alternative medicine and cling to procedures, medications, surgery etc that DONT always work. And despite knowing this, people CLING. And they ignore they defeats, hear the successes and CLING.
