Note that there are security implications with having USB debugging on. Be careful to turn them off once you're done, if you're using this with your daily phones that contains your personal data.
thank god! When I first saw the title of your video: "Oh great! Another one that will probably not mention scrcpy!" Man, what a nice surprise :) -I've been using it for years now. It's the first thing I install on any new distro. Since I run KDE now, it's very handy setting up special window settings for this app, so every time I plug in my phone -the screen appears at the same place and with same dimensions initially. Great for designing wallpapers in KLWP.
Hello, Chris! Thank you for the video! This software is magnificent! I've been using it for half a year and I'm extremely satisfied. Could you, please, make a video about transmitting/streaming audio from some smartphone to the desktop running Linux? 'scrcpy' doesn't handle this feature, so it would be interesting to know about ways of doing it
@@Praxss, thank you for your hint! Unfortunately, in AoA v.2 audio output is deprecated for Android ≥ 8 :c Though it's quite a good solution, I suppose. If I get a smartphone with Android < 8, I'll definitively test it out! I would still be glad to know about other ways to transmit audio
@NewAccount 1974 How would you do this? I am able to set up the bluetooth connection but what program should I open next? I do see that my audio is being output to the computer but that's it.
Hey chris I'm a fairly new linux user and I had a problem with distro hopping and could never find that one that worked for me. I saw your video on where you made a custom ubuntu server install and I did that and after some customization I think I'm finally done and I'm incredibly happy with it. Thanks for all you help guiding me through lightdm configuration and all that stuff
WOW, what a marvelous piece of SW! Wanted to cast my Android to my Win10 PC without creating that obliged MS account... then bumped into this one (after a good night sleep). Thanks Chris for reviewing this!! I love it 👍👍
Hello chris good video and this is better than windows programs it has good fps but it requires recent android version because it did not work on my android 4.4.4
Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I was looking for something like this for ages. Installed on Arch and it's working flawlessly Yay :D
LOL, I came across this free tool called SCRCPY and uses it to successfully put my Android screen on PC for making screencasts with RecMaster. In other words, it saves me a lot of money for an android recorder and mirror tool, thanks!
I was extremely provoked by the lack of focus on installation details in this video as if the setup is completely seamless... It isn't. At least not with my hardware. It took *many* attempts to make the Windows 10 x64 version work on my Huawei P30 Lite even after enabling Developer mode, USB debugging, disabling screen lock. First I got: "Device disconnected", then other ADB push errors, and lastly "The hardware encoder is not able to encode at the given definition"). But after lowering the screen resolution and then increasing it again, I can now display a 504x1080 resolution on my 2K Dell Precision 5530 monitor.
Yeah! So cool! Tried it just now and wow! The first screenremote software that works straight out of the box, even on Wi-Fi! Thank you so much for the tip!
Been using for nearly a year. had previously had Vysor free addition which wasn't very good so there was no way I was going to stump up for the SUBSCRIPTION service they wanted to unlock features. Found scrcpy and it's been great, wifi connection can be a little temperamental but most of the time works great. The only downside for some will be that it doesn't stream audio so it's not going to be good for casting videos to a PC connected to a TV but for checking your phone and replying to text messages it's great to be able to use a full keyboard. It's also useful if you have an Android round watch, as while the face of the watch is round they usually render a rectangular screen which can result in items being in areas of the screen not displayed on the face of the round watch. Scrcpy renders the entire screen letting you click on menu selections you otherwise wouldn't be able to and also being able to use your PC keyboard which is WAY better than trying to use the onscreen keyboard on a Smart Watch.
Wow, that was surprisingly easy. Also "Old School Windows Users", was that a knock? :^D Much appreciated for the easiest way on the internet to do this. Subbed!
I wanted to try it a few months ago, but I gave up since i couldn't find a easy way to install it, but now with apt is very easy. This is great program, the kind that I want to donate to! Hopefully in the future audio transfer can be added too. Many thanks to the developer!

Hey, Chris.Just ran across this video. Interesting stuff but a little over my tech. level. I myself like Vysor. It can do the same and it's a little bit twitchy but it's only $10 for a lifetime licence. Have you tried Vysor?
A big thumbs up Chris. Since my change from Windows to Linux 5 years ago there was only 1 final application (or equivalent) that I couldn't use on my Linux desktop as that app is only available on Windows or Android. Now I can & works really well & free! Finally for me, Windows is in the dustbin or history.
Can you do a tutorial to connect an Android phone to a Chrome OS base computer? I have a S10 with a broken screen and like to connect to a portable self powered screen. Basically convert it into a cheap beefy Tablet.
Thank you for this video. I tried scrcpy but switched to an emulator to record. Is there a free app/project that can send video and audio from the camera via usb in high quality? I found Irium Webcam but there might be better options
scrcpy is awesome. my pc wifi card is broken so i use an old droid phone as a makeshift router. scrcpy lets me open the phone so i can toggle the tether box without having to go do it on phone itself which has a cracked screen. the only issue is that once the phone is tethered for ethernet, it can no longer be accessed by scrcpy. maybe it can but i havent figured out how. if you know a work around im all ears. cheers!

I really love scrcpy. It saved my ass when my phone's display broke. I would've lost access to an account that is very important to me. I'm also poor af so I used scrcpy for months to check my phone. Worked perfectly. They also make gnirehtet, aka reverse tethering, which I use very often, to get around certain WiFi restrictions (basically my phone and my laptop are blacklisted, but my laptop can change its MAC and my phone can't).
Hi Chris, any idea how to add a LAN Stack to an Android 9 phone, so you could run your phone via MicroUSB via cable over Ethernet and don't need Wifi when you want to surf with your phone ? So is it still possible to add a LAN stack to Android 9 ? Many thanks. Regards Stefan.
On Xiaomi Redmi series (4,5,6,7,8 and more like pocophone etc...) you should also enable USB debugging(Security settings). if not you will only be able to mirror your device and would not be able to control it

It's 7 taps to unlock the developer settings on every android out there. I haven't seen this number changed. Also that isn't the only thing to do, you need to make sure you have latest ADB drivers in your pc, if not you need to get the slimmed version from google and then you need to accept the prompt on the phone ;) I guess the driver part might be only on Windows, haven't used adb on linux yet
Hey Chris! I wanted to ask you something, I know this can be a dumb question.. but i think your answer can help me in deciding.
