I used to watch this. For some time I was trying to find the name of the show and presenter, as I could not remember. Suddenly while trying to look for an old Jaguar race car, built for racing but never actually raced I believed. I just stumbled across this video.
Agreed. I've owned 2, '67 2+2s: early with glass; and late w/o glass: 11 inches longer than the coupe and roadster. Their hwy ride...sweet, 12 hours at a time. I wouldn't trade those memories for any Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Maserati.
Yeah Ive always said the same, except I never even liked the look of the E Type (I think I'm the only one) - I reckon they look stupid for some reason, but the XJ13 is the most perfect piece of automotive sculpture I have ever seen.
I was fortunate enough to see this actual car while it was in the States and visited Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut several years back. It was here for the annual Historic Festival. My friend and I at first glance assumed it must be a replica. When we got closer and read the info on it, we couldn't believe we were looking at the only example of the most beautiful Jaguar ever created. What a special treat it was!
Well..........................they did build one . But yeah . If Jaguar had produced a slightly more user-friendly Consumer version I think it would have been a Success . But Jaguar DID have a habit of Over-Pricing .
The car looks modern even by today's standards. Simply remarkable! And the sound... ouuy boy! Such a shame it didn't race. I've got an idea: Someone needs to make a racing event were only V12's are allowed! We need that!
Fantastic Jaguar. Thanks for uploading. One of the best things about Victory by Design is that Alain De Cadenet had a heavy right foot regardless of what he was driving, and how rare or valuable it was.
I love the VBD series-- Not sure if these shows are still "on the air", but years ago I taped all of them (I think from Speedvision), on VHS and still have the collection. Seeing this has inspired me to start re-watching them. Should probably copy them to DVD before they crumble.
you always go back to where you were happy... And here i am again . i remember dad showing this video to me a few years ago . having a good time watching classic cars on yt.
With the ass on that car ? no the jag looks like the HORSES ASS but you have a hard time seeing it falling on the ground from the oil slick under that roach
My thought process: 1. Oooh thats a nice looking Jaguar, lets have a look at that video. 2. *video starts* video looks a tad dated but damn that car is pretty, lets glance at the comments... 3. Seems like this video is well liked, lots of comments about the sound... 4. A 5 Litre V12???! 5. HOLY MOTHER OF MERCY BY THE HANDS OF SIR STIRLING MOSS THIS SOUNDS UNREAL!!!!
That is got to be one of the most sweetest sounding V12 ever I don't even think Ferrari sounds that good I'm just saying I'm not much of a Jaguar fan but thumbs up for Jaguar for making that
Impresionante!!
Quite sometime ago I met Mr. De Cadenet at the Monterey Historic’s. I am aware of Alain’s racing pedigree but one has to wonder when he takes one of these irreplaceable museum pieces out on a somewhat spirited drive are the owners biting their nails down to the nubs? Lovely man, lovely car. Miss you Alain and your wonderful series.
I came here after a mention of this car on Terrell's Classic Workshop, because it looked so gorgeous and I had never heard of it. Holy hell the sound of this thing! Maybe my new favorite car ever.
A beautiful car and wonderful sound, a beauty not spoiled by air dams. Malcolm Sayer wanted to have smooth airflow under the car to produce down-force (reverse aerofoil). Several test runs at Silverstone, the last in the Summer of 67 with Davis Hobbs (where I was present) showed the car to be too slow, although improving over several track tests, the XJ13 being a bit on the heavy side. I drew out a wing for it alà Chaparral which was never made as the project was cancelled. Incidentally, a comment from Malcolm Sayer about fast backs with slow fronts,- an E Type with hard top is more aerodynamic than the fixed head because of the sharp angle between the screen and the roof line on the FHC which breaks the air flow. Norman Dewis crashed the XJ13 (Lofty´s words) at MIRA some years later when filming a Jaguar press film.
This is the first time I've ever seen this car and it is stunning. It actually made me cry when he started it up and drove off. I have been living in sad ignorance of this car my whole life.
I adore Ferrari Cars.... but this is the MOST OUTSTANDING AUTOMOBILE I HAVE EVER SEEN.... I owned a Triumph TR 7.....1977... and I have owned a Mazda Miata 2002 for the last 11 years... MY LITTLE BABY.....my pride and joy.....!!!! BRAVO to all these wonderful automobiles ON PLANET EARTH.....!!!!
When Alain says they purchased "the old" Coventry-Climax (and Walter Hassan and Harry Mundy w/ it) - this was a forklift/fire pump engine company. Mundy was the engineer who designed an aluminum engine for the British govt that would be lightweight and pump twice the amount of water of a typical fire truck pump engine. They debuted this engine (called the Feather Weight) at the London Motor Show and guess who was there? Colin Chapman of Lotus. They raced the thing and it even powered their production Lotus Elite and was called the FPE (Fire Pump Engine!). Hassan was no stranger to Jaguar, he was employed by them prior to the Coventry gig but when they were known as SS (the Swallow Sidecar Company). SS was not the name you wanted for your brand after WWII so they rebranded the company after the name of one of their models: Jaguar.
What a sound. What a joy that would have been to see that going down the Mulsanne straight flat out before they put those ridiculous chicanes in and leaving the Ferrari's in its wake.
realmente espectacular este JAGUAR-bonito,rapido incluso hoy, suena espectacular con ese v12-tambien son caros-es uno de mis coches favoritos-me encanta ese diseño-
''WOW'' !!! The sound of that is frigg'n ''steller'' ,, & driven the way it's supposed to !!!!!! Real close now on my fav. vintage sounds,, & pretty much ''now'',, is right there with the 70' -71' Porsche 917 K !
Many moons ago in the 1970's My older brother was re-working an XKE. I asked him "What color is that?". He said "Ascot Fawn". I said to myself. Not only is the color amazing, but the name is cool too. Think Rolls Royce. Beautiful light tan color.
You can clearly see where the E Type and XJ220 got their gorgeous looks from. In my opinion, the XJ13 is the second most beautiful car in the world, behind the Series 1 E Type Jaguar.
… my god, what a beast. RIP AdC, you are a legend.
RIP Alain de Cadenet. This show will always be his calling card, but he lived one hell of a life.
I used to watch this. For some time I was trying to find the name of the show and presenter, as I could not remember. Suddenly while trying to look for an old Jaguar race car, built for racing but never actually raced I believed. I just stumbled across this video.
Most beautiful Jaguar ever made. Seems to go round corners exceptionally well. What a machine!
Hands down the most beautiful looking car ever made. Even nicer than the E-Type
Agreed. I've owned 2, '67 2+2s: early with glass; and late w/o glass: 11 inches longer than the coupe and roadster. Their hwy ride...sweet, 12 hours at a time. I wouldn't trade those memories for any Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Maserati.
What about the lister jags
Yeah Ive always said the same, except I never even liked the look of the E Type (I think I'm the only one) - I reckon they look stupid for some reason, but the XJ13 is the most perfect piece of automotive sculpture I have ever seen.
drongo jonkins first car I believe to use a form of wind tunnel
heat seeker I know some one who has a 8litre v12 jag engine and I haven’t heard of another one anywhere has any one else ?
Thank You Alain! God speed!
Most beautiful car in history.
Mozart in V12 major
Wow, it would be a dream to sit inside and drive the car now, that sound is just so beautiful
I was fortunate enough to see this actual car while it was in the States and visited Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut several years back. It was here for the annual Historic Festival. Absolute perfection. Absolutely stunning from every angle. The fact it was never built is a loss to motoring enthusiasts everywhere.
I agree with you , very sad indeed.
Well..........................they did build one . But yeah . If Jaguar had produced a slightly more user-friendly Consumer version I think it would have been a Success . But Jaguar DID have a habit of Over-Pricing .
RCR replicas builds a great kit. It accepts a Jaguar 12 cylinder. Despite a replica, it would bring you close to the time period.
The most beautiful lines ever sculpted around four wheels.
Quite simply, my dream car. Thankyou for not talking or playing some soft-rock soundtrack over that lovely engine...
Fell Rider mine is the 1955 Porsche spyder
This Ordinary Life
My dream car is this one
Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe for me. The Jag XJ13 is absolutely gorgeous though, shame it never got to run.
I've got great news for you. There's a company called RCR that produces a replica of this car for around $60,000.
@@atiwana8782 yeah right, sure. !!!!!
Now that is the most beautiful jaguar I've ever seen. Make that a limited production release please.
My favorite show of his series
Loved the whole “Victory By Design” series! Great history lesson(s) for gear heads.
The car looks modern even by today's standards. Simply remarkable! And the sound... ouuy boy!
Such a shame it didn't race.
I've got an idea: Someone needs to make a racing event were only V12's are allowed! We need that!
Great balls of fire!
What a Sound !!
Alain de Cadenet Legend Driver and Star.
The most finest classic sportscar ever made. This is the best innovative race car Jaguar ever built.
Fantastic Jaguar. Thanks for uploading.
One of the best things about Victory by Design is that Alain De Cadenet had a heavy right foot regardless of what he was driving, and how rare or valuable it was.
What a gorgeous car! And such a fantastic snarling, angry V-12 engine note. This is such a thrilling machine!
rocketman63 Try “BRM V16”.
rocketman63 好
they sound amazing. like a spitfire.
Jaguar made such curvy wonders in the 50's and 60's
Such a utter shame this was never put into production as a road car. My God, that thing is stunning. And the sound? Wow... Just wow.....
I love the VBD series-- Not sure if these shows are still "on the air", but years ago I taped all of them (I think from Speedvision), on VHS and still have the collection. Seeing this has inspired me to start re-watching them. Should probably copy them to DVD before they crumble.
They used to be available on DVD. Too bad they were not shot in 4K
you always go back to where you were happy... And here i am again . i remember dad showing this video to me a few years ago . having a good time watching classic cars on yt.
Never heard of this Jag before but it is stunning! Definitely one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever made, if not the most beautiful
You can see it at the British Motor Museum www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/
They only ever made one
@@rustybearden1800 they made 2 actually but 1 of them crashed now there is 1 left
What a terrific engine and sound and that overrun is like pure apple pie with hot custard, mmmmmmmmmmmm delicious.
R.I.P Alain. I loved this program.
Better looking than even the Ferrari 250 GTO..
Pip Piperade I never really cared for the 250 GTO. To me it looked like a horses asshole compared to this car, and many others.
With the ass on that car ? no the jag looks like the HORSES ASS but you have a hard time seeing it falling on the ground from the oil slick under that roach
Beautiful yes but not 250 GTO beautiful. If this were a low drag E-Type I’d reconsider.
Hmm, far better in fact, but then nothing touches the Maserati 300/450 series for looks
Not at all. Ferrari looks way better.
Wow! What a beauty. And it's not just looks - she packs quite a punch as well.
This may be the best video on CZcams.
My thought process:
You don't need a wireless in this car
Paul - leave those toys at home and just enjoy driving.
That has to be the best looking car I have seen in ages
Oh my god! The sound of that V12, my goosebumps got goosebumps, glorious...
This has been my dream car for a while
Like this kind of short clips of legendary vehicles.
That is got to be one of the most sweetest sounding V12 ever I don't even think Ferrari sounds that good I'm just saying I'm not much of a Jaguar fan but thumbs up for Jaguar for making that
No music, no frills.
Pure video :)
Jags remain by far, the most beautiful designs ever ! Thank you, thank you for video !
Impresionante!! Hermoso por donde se lo mire, jaguar siempre a fabricado coches increíbles sin duda alguna ,pero este es el mejor de todos, una maravilla de diseño y tecnología,un auto soñado y el v12 es una sinfonía,que mas se puede pedir? The best music video I've watched in ages!👍👍👍👍

Probably the best raw engine sound out there. I could listen to that for hours without complaining.
This is literally making my scalp tingle. What a sound. And what a car. Stunning no other word for it. If I could only have one car this would be it.
This is the first time I've ever seen this car and it is stunning. It actually made me cry when he started it up and drove off. I have been living in sad ignorance of this car my whole life.
RIP Alain, you will be missed!
The sound of that car is unbelievable!!
He does a great job introducing it.
The most beautiful car, I listen de sound v12 all the time!!!
I love these clips. What a marvelous car.
An amazing masterpiece!
God bless him, may he rest in peace.
arguably the best sounding car ever made...
I always love when he dons the period helmet and goggles.
The most beautiful car of all time .
As soon as he started the car I broke into an irresistible smile, what a magnificent car.
What a glorious sound!
The engine sound is more exciting than a space ship thrust. Jaguars remain the all time classic,.
Epic V12 music! That car is an heirloom!
Unbelievably beautiful car
The sound at the bottom of the hill following 3:51 is so beautiful, why can't Jays Garage and other car shows do this? This is art. :)
DR Shaw there is only 1 in existence
What a sweet sounding.... good looking Jag !
Legendar concept Jaguar car . Classic sport car world
the most beautiful car in the world!
Whooahhohoho ... Cars today can't even come close to sounding like that. That Crank was crazy.
He nailed that 3 minute monologue in a one-er. What a pro
That is the sexiest thing I have ever heard.
It's definitely one of the greatest sounding cars, ever. It's probably the best outside of V12 era Formula 1 cars...
Yes, an the presenter also has a nice voice.
That start up is monstrous.

3:15 OMG!! AWESOME, shivers up and down the spine, .. WOW! A mid engine V12 monster styled brilliantly . amazing for 1966.
Ahead of its time, purely timeless
I enjoyed watching this series as a child, but enjoy it more now that I can turn the volume up.
Defines the meaning of “timeless design”..
Simply stunning !!!!
When you’ve got a sound like that there’s no radio required ❤
I've owned two Jaguar xjs cars. Love the v12 5.3L
