During the Iraq war there was concern Marines were executing prisoners because so many bad guys were found with headshots. After an investigation it was discovered that these headshots were being delivered from well over 100yrds away and it was a headshot because that was all the enemy was displaying which was why so many people were getting their head turned into a canoe.

I can't remember who said it but I still remember this take on the purpose of officers in the Marines vs the other US branches. In the other services, officers are there to issue orders and keep things running smoothly. In the Marines, the officers are there to keep the Marine enlisted somewhat in line with the Geneva convention.

I was invited to the ball in 2012 by my girlfriend who has since passed, it's a bittersweet memory in some ways, but it was also the best damm party I've ever been to! You know... I have to ask, does the rest of the world actually understand the relevancy of the Marines, the birthday ball, and them cancelling it? I know we get it, but do they understand the gravity of the situation that would cause them to do that? That's a whole lot of concentrated "find out" that they're starting to play with at that point.

Let's put it this way, that didn't happen for the entire GWOT. They may have rescheduled it, or played with the dates, but it wasn't cancelled.
Well, the reactions in the portrayal were coming from Japan, Germany, Poland, and Canada. They were around during previous times such an occurrence happened, and the ones who panicked the most were formerly targets of such cancellations.
Everyone mentioned in this video has either been a victim of or an ally beside the Marines. All of them have a very intimate understanding of what will happen when our Professional War Crime Enthusiasts are denied their birthday crayons.
Most Americans won't understand that one. This channel's target audience will all get it, but nobody who isn't at least military-adjacent is likely to.

I showed this to my brother, and he didn't get the joke in terms of the Marines cancelling their birthday ball.
I can't remember who said it but I still remember this take on the purpose of officers in the Marines vs the other US branches. In the other services, officers are there to issue orders and keep things running smoothly. In the Marines, the officers are there to keep the Marine enlisted somewhat in line with the Geneva convention.

I told my wife a few weeks ago that the Marines in CENTCOM canceled their birthday ball, even she knew that meant something serious was about to happen involving Uncle Sam's Misguided Children.

I was invited to the ball in 2012 by my girlfriend who has since passed, it's a bittersweet memory in some ways, but it was also the best damm party I've ever been to! It was really interesting looking around and thinking "if everything went to shit right now, like if someone lit off a nuke or a zombie plague hit or aliens landed, I'm in the best possible crowd to survive it!

Perun's recent powerpoint has been a big help in providing context to current affairs. Iran almost exclusively deals in gray zone operations and proxy warfare these days because they've spent so much time under sanction that traditional means of projecting power simply aren't in the budget. On the other hand, their cheap basic missiles and drones oddly keep falling off of the back of trucks in Yemen and Gaza and Syria.
