Eibach VS OEM spec springs. Which is better for the Alfa Romeo GTV?

  • Full initial setup suspension setup on my car:
    Koni Sport adjustable shocks absorbers.
    Eibach Pro 20mm springs
    Fully Polly bushes rear end.
In this episode I remove the Eibach springs in favour of some OEM specification springs for a better, more compliant ride on real world public roads. The results is quite simply drastic! For smooth roads or track use the Eibach are perfectly fine but for normal road use they just aren’t fit for purpose. A stiff ride doesn’t necessarily mean better road holding for normal use. I hope you enjoy the video.

got eibachs on mine, not been happy for a long time with it and have bought a set of suplex springs to swap them out with. I think you have just convinced me to make that my next job Rick. Well done mate the car is looking awesome!

I had the same set up as you and have experimented with every setting of the yellow konis. Best setting was mid setting on the rear and 1 turn from hardest on the fronts or so

Placing the inner tube on the spring compressor is also better for the grip on the spring. So it is more safe to work. :)

Hi, I have same result. I put Eibach out of my GTV, but only from rear side. I use same dampers Koni :)

Just found your channel and enjoyed this video. Lovely GTV. I have a 166 TS but looking at a V6 916 Spider or GTV.

Looks stunning from the side Rick just like mine ! I’m on koni street shocks and suplex springs all round but I’ve gone for kyb rear shocks rides great and sits correctly 👌

I think alfa say do not use polybushes as the oem rubber gives comp, iance and adds to rear wheel steering in fast corners, aka legendary Alfa handling.

  • @johnkerrjohnkerr8238

    Definitely it’s a better ride

hey rick, nice video again! I lowered my twinnie too, about 25mm with KAW-springs, koni street. it drives poor compared to factory springs, but the lowering looks very sharp, I love that and won't rebuild it anyway. conclusion, as yours: factory standard works best! they did a really good job.

Did you forget the cup, it was sitting on the bench when you were doing up the nut

Hi Rick. Will the previous set up with eibachs work on highways and good roads? I'm living in Dubai where pot hole is science fiction, and would like to keep the lower look of the car. Actually, plan is to fit Koni sport front/STR rear along with pro-kit. Great video, indeed. Quite educating since I'm planing to the replacement on my own. Thanks !

As someone who's contemplated a spring swap I'm convinced to keep her standard - James May approves too I'm sure! 😃

Yo Rick, nice clean job as always. If you do this job again, safety wire up the coils when they're compressed. Also, you have to oil up the threads on the coil compressors with a lightweight oil, ie 10 weight ie ATF. The resistance you felt winding em has a lot to do with this.
