I CAN'T WAIT for this young man to be told his children's charity that had a funding goal of $2,500 dollars is currently at about 7 MILLION. I think he'll realize then how much the entire country was pulling for him. Whether he plays football again or not is unimportant. What's important is he's headed towards a full recovery, with a long life ahead of him, and a national recognition BEYOND what football was giving him to do something remarkable with his platform. And the world thanks the NFL emergency staff and University of Cincinnatti doctors who teamed together to save Damar's life.
GIVE THIS MAN THE NFL MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD.
@Bellz ! you are pretty misinformed good sir
@Bellz ! he raised 7 mil, almost posthumously.
@@IIIUMlNATI right after they tell him he'll never play football again
@Bellz ! that’s just not true. When I donated that night I saw a flood of people who were donating. Get your facts right before you spout off.
Thank you to all medical staff. Paramedics, nurses and Doctors. You're the true miracle workers! And to the Bills assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington who was first to Damar administering CPR.
Can’t even put into words how much thanks and appreciation I have for the first responders ❤️
@@alonzor557 and the trainer who kept his heart going on the field too!
@@CLP921 Just read the article about him, let me edit my post.
100% everyone is pulling for Damar. Keep fighting brother ❤❤
@@Lungolords oops sorry! Reacted to quickly! Thank you for the heads up 😇
Him asking whether they won or not as his first question is wild to me. Really shows how much the sport means to him really breaks my heart that this happened. Hopefully he fully recovers🙏
He's a gamer. Who won was more important than why he was just waking up!
Crazy to think about really
Because football is next man up that game should have kept being played
Evidently the doctor told him that he won the game of life. That’s pretty cool
More importantly, it showed that his brain and memory are functioning at a high enough level that he knew who he was and what was happening before his injury.
I don’t think that happened. He has tubes in his mouth and I have yet to see a reliable source saying this is true. I hope it is but don’t think so
From breaking Buffalo's 17-year playoff curse to saving the life of a player, Buffalo fans certainly hold the city of Cincinnati in a special place in their hearts.
All future Buffalo vs Cincinnati games must be cancelled and never played again. These two teams are one whole entity at this point.
agreed this is my fav sister city situation
As a bengals fan, feelings mutual and I hope the bills win it all if the bengals don’t
@@Lucasgoetz1220 Except the Bengals were just warming up to trounce the Bills. The Bills were down a few key players. They had to kick a field goal because they couldn't get into the endzone. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon was back on the field and Joe Burrow consistently saves his best play-actions for the 2nd half of games. The game wasn’t "a tie" Cincinnati was about to show the Bills that Kansas City wasn’t a fluke.
@@PureMagma ok man from the future
Prayers for a speedy recovery for this young man! "Neurologically intact" is extremely good news though. 🙏
Dude wrote down "who won the game" on a piece of paper. Incredible man, absolutely incredible.
I love it 😂
Do we “un cancel” all the people who expressed interest in the game and the implications it would have with the understanding that while its less important than his life it’s still an important thing we need to discuss? Or do we hate them still?
@@eakerr4 Eh the only one who's really getting hate is Skip, and if you know skip he literally just has wrong/unpopular takes on purpose all the time. On the other hand I think Bart Scott didn't mean anything bad (But he could have tbh, Bart hates the bengals and he was partially implying that it was Tee's fault even though he said he didn't' blame him."
@@eakerr4 absolutely not. In fact if the NFL does not cancel the rest of the season and award the championship to the Bills right now, i'm boycotting next year's season.
My father had cardiac arrest, they did cpr on him for over 20 minutes and shocked him back once the ambulance showed up, he never regained consciousness. they put him in a coma and in a hyperthermic body suit that drops the body temp lower to minimize brain function to reduce trauma to the brain. a few days later he came out, full recovery.
That's incredible. They did the same things to my father but he didn't make it.
🙏 I'm happy that he had a great outcome! My grandfather had a heart attack and was apparently dead within minutes (I wasn't born yet). I know Cardiac arrest and heart attack are different, but I wish more people knew how to do CPR, it could truly alter generations. I just registered for CPR and first aid training.
@@sgtbaker81 sorry for your loss😢
@@stevenunger1940 Great idea, it should be mandatory in schools. Then we wont have this big awkward area where everyone is feeling so strange like now. Its a normal thing that happens and people shouldnt be so turned off by it. You will probably see someone have a heart attack in your life and have to do something.
@@sgtbaker81 Sorry to hear that Josh. It is definitely case by case. My dad wasn't even 150 pounds nearly 6 foot tall. I think that played a part for him. Thinking of you.
That Bills med team and first responders deserve a 🏅
Not to be mean, but it's their Job to rescue people. They deserve a medal for their work, everyday, not only when a sort of celeb is involved.
Dude asking if they won shows how much of a competitor he really is
No. It's proof that everybody quit and did the man a true disservice.
@@amesailor i would have to agree, but he didn’t see what type of scene he cause so i understand both sides now
@@amesailor no they did not do him a disservice. That man died on the field and they brought him back to life. At that point football wasn't on anyone's mind and wasn't important.
@@amesailor Bad take. How are the players supposed to focus and play their best when something like this happens? And don't give me the "This is what they are paid to do deeeerrrrrp" excuse. Forcing them to keep playing would have been a disaster for not only the players but also for the NFL
@UCMbT6P2qMB453y6j2lfegIAcomparing playing a game for entertainment to a kid fighting cancer or loosing a friend in battle is not one in the same my man.
If he wrote “who won?” He’s definitely coming back if his lungs aren’t permanently damaged
What a story! So glad to hear he's going to pull through this, I've refreshing sources for days hoping to hear this news!
Ian , what a great reporter , caring , concerned & is able to explain so clearly , Pat , you an Ian , team work ! Thank you , amazing football player # 3 , millions of prayers for him , continue on more prayers ! American cares , the world has made a difference , thank you everyone !!!!
You may want to hold your comments on Ian,at the presser by the two doctors, he asked two foolish questions. Plus a lot of things,he is talking about now, more speculation not actual facts from doctors or medical staff .
I hope the NFL recognizes the medical staff like have something in the beginning of the Super Bowl or something like that bring them on the field let us all know who they are.
This is the best comment yet. Great idea.
What a phenomenal idea! Send them all to the Super Bowl and recognize them on the nfl dime. Yes sir
50 million people witnessed a miracle in front of their very eyes!! God has bless you Damar!! We look forward to your full recovery!!
Imagine waking up in the middle of a football game you’re playing, except you’re in the hospital 3 days later and the whole country is waiting to hear from you.
The fact that Damar is asking about who won just two days after going into cardiac arrest and needing CPR for 9 minutes is absolutely amazing!! I can't wait until he hears how everyone in the world was praying and behind him. He's going to be so overwhelmed with love and support. We love you Damar ❤️
Continued prayers for this young man and his family.
Yes thank you Jesus
This is amazing news! So happy that he is conscious and responding to commands and communicating....that is HUGE!!! Great job to all the first responders and hospital medical team!
They have said one of the first questions he asked after waking up, he asked (in writing) who won the game. I'm still praying for his health and recovery, and if he is ready, able, and willing to play again, that is his decision.
The doctor told him that he won the game of life. That’s pretty badass to me
9 minutes of no oxygen to the brain is not good at all. He won’t play again, but he’s alive and hopefully makes the best recovery possible. We’re all pulling for this young man
Keep the prayers going for a full and speedy recovery.
I had NOT heard that he was more conscious! Good to hear he's having this kind of recovery!
I’ve never been this proud to live in the heart of Cincinnati. So glad he is heading in the right direction.
Hey that hospital is on the map now!!! Good place for new doctors to move to, obviously to learn this kind of care
Now to a speedy recovery, and hope he has long lasting health.
THANK YOU HARD WORKING NURSES! YOU DEFINITLEY KNOW HOW TO SAVE A LIFE!
This guy's injury has really shown the greatness of human beings
Beautiful to hear. My family and I are extremely relieved to know this man will be ok
Neurologically intact sounds so scary to need to hear, sheeeeeesh
Like it or not the NFL sideline protocol worked incredibly well. Kudos for them and more prayers for Damarr
Yes it’s a miracle 🙏🙏🙏
As a Bills fan I have always been incredibly proud of our medical staff. In 2007 when Kevin Everett was paralyzed they quickly got him on ice to prevent swelling in his spinal cord. He also nearly died on the field and was saved. And due to the quick actions of the medical staff Kevin Everett was able to begin walking just a few months later after being fully paralyzed from the neck down.
Thank God this made my heart smile
Reminds me of Jerry Lawlers' heart attack(that was triggered by a blow to the chest in an earlier match). They worked on him for over 20 minutes during the broadcast(off camera). Fortunately, it seems like Hamelin is mostly out of the woods. We're all pulling for the young man. His football career is not as important at this point, as long as he is able to live a long and healthy life.
"Neurologically intact" is the big news here. When the heart stops, the brain goes without blood and the brain cells start to die. The entire point of CPR is not to restart the heart, but to manually pump blood through the body and to the brain while you wait for an AED or similar resuscitation. So for him to go AT LEAST 9-10 minutes with no heartbeat and still remember the game and be able to communicate is awesome.
He’s gonna have the worst sore throat of all-time (being intubated is very painful), but it appears he’ll be okay within a couple weeks. Lung function is next step, if that’s not compromised then he’s a few tests away from RUNNING out of that hospital!!!!
@@crzycolchris That would be the best thing I’ve ever seen! 🤯
How about Damar Hamlin pick six to win Super Bowl?
Ridiculous!😂 no one would want to touch him. I know you guys are just kiddin around. In addition to the painful sore throat, he will be weak and may need to learn to walk again. Will need therapy. He’s got a road to recovery. But I look to seeing him looking amazing in the near future
@@gingerhunter3150 He’ll be walking around within a week, from my experience.
@@darrenXparker awesome! He’s young too. A young athlete! Can’t wait to see more positive news on this guy. I feel like now football can move on. I was stumped for a bit. Now I’ll enjoy this weekends games!
Genuine concern and elation from these two, it’s nice to see authentic reporting and commentary
My eyes are sweating hearing this news. This is amazing.
9 minutes is an extremely long time to be worked on! So glad it appears there's no brain damage!!
A Firefighter I know said she worked on someone for 58 minutes....so 9 is apparently not long at all
9 minutes is nothing. I would be stoked to work a code for 9 minutes. I've worked 30 some odd in 5 years as a paramedic and only had 3 that were less than 20 minutes. Two those were we were looking for DNR paperwork.
I don’t think we know if there’s no brain damage yet. Its very possible he could be neurologically intact, but not the man he once was. Hoping and praying for 100% though!
Way to go Damar!
The only time I remember similar incident
June 2021 Christian Erickson of Denmark had a heart attack during game Denmark vs Finland. Very similar incident
Crazy way to get put into the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award conversation...
Soooooooo happy !! We have all been holding our breath.
Typical of what we have been learning about this young man his first question written was "Did we win?" Not thinking about his situation but his team.
Breathtaking job the first responders and doctors have done for this young man. ❤ get well soon Damar!
Not sure who else is old enough to remember this but it brought me back to Hank Gathers. Just so happy this had a better outcome
All praise to the most high 🙌 aka; the Doctors, EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, Bills Athletic Trainers (especially Denny Kellington who provided 9minutes of intense CPR)
I like how you wrote that :) Indeed.
There is only one most high. Jesus Christ, savior of the world. Thank God for doctors and their God given abilities. You will find out sooner or later that there is one true God.
@@Jennifer_177 nah imagine if I went under every religious comment & starting telling y’all “your god isn’t real” - or, “if he is, he’s a child Ray-pist” -
STFU
Yeah... definitely got chills with the second part when you mentioned him writing and asking about the game. I was glad to just hear that he was alive after that during the first part since I had read that, but I did not expect the second update. That is incredible news... not just being alive, but remembering where he was and having mobility. Just... wow.
I think we all here love this podcast. Funniest, toxic, crazy, football podcast. But also awesome to see the "toxic" people be super cool supportive and read the room of jokes and all. They have a job to do, but caring for a human is first... literally best podcast out there.... 💪🏽
Philly fan here. I feel like the country just won the Superbowl. I can jump up and down scream thank you God. Our world is Beautiful and loving.
Love it Pat The Pat McAfee Show Bro
I knew it man.. I knew he would've wanted them to keep playing.. Now they gotta get out there and win for him!!
Absolutely amazing news! Keep fighting young man!
“It’s not only that the lights are on, we know he’s home”
Amazing that one of the first things he ask when coming to was "Did we win the game?" I think he'll be back to play.
Too big of a liability, he won’t see the field again.
@@ABAYBAZ You literally can't say this. First off his injury was a 1/200,000,000 chance of happening. Second off if he recovers to being fully healthy (Like other athletes have from this) why would he not be able to play?
When I heard this news I started crying again - and thanked God for the grace He is showering upon this young man.
Seen this my whole career. Pretty common place, but you never hear about it. Thank your EMS personnel in your city. 👍 This is excellent news. 👌
Happy for this young man. Selfishly I look forward to hearing from him on the entire situation, if he felt anything, if he was aware something was wrong initially, his thoughts on the entire sports world and more essentially putting all attention and prayers on him.
I also am excited to hear what he can recall. What a platform if he has a Near Death experience to tell.
He probably has no memory of anything before the kickoff
@@crzycolchris which god?
Yeah he will never have to worry about anything- ever. In terms of financially. This will be an inspiration to others . He’s got a huge platform
@@Warden033 given it's God and not god I think you know. Try again next time 🧌
Best news I’ll hear all week🙏🏻❤️
I got chills at the “did we win” part
I hope he can hear his charity raised over 7 million dollars! What a blessing. Will continue to pray 🙏🏽
Enough to cover the medical bills
St. Louis blues jay bouwemeister had cardiac arrest 2 years ago and medical staff saved his life with CPR. Thank god for all these medical professionals on these teams staff
Continued prayers for damar.❤️
Praying with you.
Fantastic news! Continuing prayers
I wonder if chest plates now get redesigned with extra padding or accordion shocks around the vulnerable heart zones, instead of a single slab
More likely prospects will be heavily analyzed for heart conditions
"Can you imagine playing this team right now?"
Boston Connor "Yeah...that would suck"
LOL
I was in a coma for 15 days from a bad military experience... I'm extremely curious what his cognitive function is like. That plays a BIG role if he is gunna be able to get back to "normal"...
I work on a drilling rig and people die and get fucked up all the time. Most still come back to work after if they can. So it’s not crazy to think he might want to play again. Just hope he ok. 🤞🤞🤞
Prayers and healing to start 2023❤ let’s all continue to be humans .
Even Hamlin thought the game should continue
Thank you!
Our thoughts and prayers with this young man May God give him long healthy life it was so shocking to see him fall on the ground on live tv heart wrenching for all spectators specially the men on the field they were in disbelief hood to know he’s recovering
Medical staff and emergency personal came in clutch, not a minute wasted !
ESPN reporting that he wrote and asked if they won the game.
Amazing news. I hope that the guy who tackled him gets all the support he needs as well. He must be going through hell as well
I love that his 1st thought was did we win?
Thank you JESUS! Praise GOD!
This reminds me of the Chris Pronger incident back in 98
Thank god.
So beautiful to see the support he has received when this happened it instantly brought tears to my eyes after losing the most important person in my life to a heart attack a few days before the thought of seeing someone pass on TV was shaking. Thank goodness to the medical staff and the beautiful message they told him he really has won life 🩵
GL!
Nice to see Americans coming together…white, black, left, right… doesn’t matter…kudos to the professionals involved in saving this young man’s life.
I can’t imagine waking up after all of that. The fight in that young cat is incredible! Team Damar baby!
I don’t think any owner will let him in their field ever again.
It is a nice change to be blubbering with joy and not whiskey induced despair.
Pat the last few days on this show has really shined a light that these are HUMAN beings, not just stats on a spreadsheet, thanks for the great coverage
Have you looked across the world? Those same human beings are killing each other for a plot of land
I'm so happy for this young man to be recovering as well as he is. I hope if he wants he can someday play again because he is for sure an Incredible competitor and human! 🙏
Christian Eriksen had the full footage of what happened to him live with millions and millions watching with CPR and chest compressions etc, I think the NFL had learned from that as to not to show the details but yes this has happened before a year and a half ago. It was talked about on this show. He wasn't allowed to play in Italy for Inter Milan anymore after his recovery because the device he has on his heart isn't legal in the league (as in they don't let you play if you have one of those) but he's allowed to play in England and after a comeback half a season in London he signed for Man United in the summer
The NFL health department (no idea what to call them) need a big bonus after this!
The craziest thing is 9 mins is a long time, they could have called it at 8 mins, 7 mins. The folks doing CPR were amazing they def gave Damar a chance to continue to fight.
They probably have protocols in place that don't allow them to do that. The EMS service I worker for said that CPR and ACLS has to be done for at least 30 minutes in a witnessed arrest like Hamlin's.
@@soulknife20 Ahh ok, thanks for the clarification.
It's crazy how the heart reacts to outside influences. I read where a family had just finished their meal. The father and a young daughter were doing dishes. The mother and a toddler we're having a game of Hide and Seek. The mother startled her son at the wrong millisecond between Heartbeats. The toddler did not recover. How horrific. Scaring one's child into a life-ending heart attack. Doesn't matter where you are who you are or what you were doing bad things can happen.
So happy for the positive updates that I didn't expect. Hug your loved ones folks
Shoutout to Ian "older Drake Bell" Rapaport
Shaht Aht to the medical professionals! Absolute heroes
Amazing news! This also happened to christian erikson live in the euro cup, 100 mil more people saw it happen live and the cameras never cut away either.
Man this has been the craziest amd scariest week of football in my life. So happy this young man has made it. Now I'll be praying that he makes as close to a full 100% recovery as possible.
This is why they have changed emphasis to "Compressions" in CPR vs breathing. Yes you still want to clear the air way, but compressions keeps the blood flow to the brain and body while paramedics rush to scene and/or someone gets a defibulator set up. There are other reasons for compressions too, but keeping blood flow to brain and body is a key one. As we now, the brain can only go so long without blood and oxygen before brain damage, but compression keeps sending blood their and as efficient as our body is, it does not absorb all the oxygen from the blood in the first pass.
Thank god I was preying for this young man may his recovery be speedy.
1:10 Does no one else remember Christian Eriksen nearly dying in the European Championship 2 years ago? Danish soccer player had a cardiac arrest and practically died on the field and was brought back several times. Players stood over him and created a shield so that no one at the stadium and at home could see him get revived
I cant wait to hear from him
I’m so fkn happy for Damar! This is amazing news! 🙏❤️
After also seeing someone die on the field of play during Euro 2020 last year (because of Covid euro2020 was play in 2021), I couldn’t believe this was playing out again. Euro was way more graphic as the cameras caught his lifeless stare right when he hit the ground and stayed on him where we saw paramedics live on tv start CPR and the crowd gasp in horror. I’m so glad ESPN didn’t use that overhead camera or a drone to get some camera shots before knowing the severity. It was bad enough and we knew something was seriously wrong. Amazing news he is on the road to recovery and hope it continues. Also a big thanks to all the first responders that used all their knowledge and training under a stress unimaginable to save Damars life, you all did well.
Thank God he is showing signs of improvement. Your still in my prayers keep fighting young man
The Kodak moment will be when Higgins and Hamlin are hugging at the spot of the tackle!
I keep hearing people say that we have never seen something like this before in any sport....Jiri fischer was revived with CPR and a defib during a hockey game where he just collapsed on the bench.
"Unconscious for six minutes, team doctors eventually resuscitated Fischer employing a combination of CPR and the use of an automatic defibrillator before transporting the 1998 first round draft pick to a Detroit area hospital. He was released two days later."
I remember watching the game it happened in and was devastated as they worked on Jiri for 6 minutes.
Super happy Damar is doing well though!!!! God is good!
