I am so happy that you mention Kurt Goedel at 51 minutes. The incompleteness theorem was proposed in 1931 and it seems like no one has heard of it. Goedel also implies that the universe is an open system. Goedel also starved himself to death, but that is another story.

There are some wonderful pieces available on Simone Weil. This is the frat-boy SNL version. I would suggest the BBC4 In Our Time "Simone Weil" segment. Goto In Our Time at BBC 4 and under A-Z choose S for Simone Weil. Really worth the time.

Dr. Cecil, This is a very poor review of Simone Weil's (See mun' Vay) life, politics and philosophy. She was raised as an intellectual with her mother, father and her brother, the famous mathematician Andrew Weil. She got the highest and not the second highest marks on her entrance exam to Ecole Normale' Superieur. After that she was a school teacher. She was most interested in the condition of the Common Person, his and her suffering. She hated the Bourgoisee concept and she vehemently denied her Jewishness sayin "I am French". Her brother Andrew was NOT smarter than Simone except that his talents were in mathematics. Otherwise, he was apolitical. She wanted the abolition of all political parties because she determined that politics was evil. I think her best works are "Gravity and Grace", "Waiting For God" and "On the Abolition of Political Parties". She did indeed participate in the Spanish Civil War on the Loyalist side. but as a scullery where she got injured and getting sent back to France. She worked in the Citroen automobile factory, but they found she could not operate any kind of machinery and was finally fired. She identified most greatly with the Catholic Church. Yes, Simone liked Buddhist philosophy and could read and write Sanskrit. Her comments to those she dismissed was "I do not accept your persona." The Catholic group that loves her most is the peace anarchist Catholic Worker Movement. Dr. Cecil, I find you very entertaining, but you are in no way qualified to lecture on Simone Weil.

Dr. Cecil is an American, that is degenerated Puritan after 300 years of secularism, the students very not serious about life, because the religious life of the US in the college is meager, so no metaphysical philosophy will be understood, people are basically materialists, so no Christianity is there or spirituality, so death of philosophy, so examined life, so no dignified person in secular college in general in US. Socrates will fail here, because the Athenian citizens are cultured people, they join the tragedies and comedies, US is quite below that level. Happy pigs, as it were.

Ph.D Wesly Cecil’s humorous lecturing style is fantastic that attracts the audience attention. At the same time, the way how he cohesively exhibits his serious understanding on any philosophers is unbelievable.

Another extraordinary female philosopher is Simone Weil.
What a journey of her distinguished travels and insights. She was complicated and always searching for the truth
I love her as I had to study her work to place myself "as if" in her shoes.
Gravity and Space, Waiting for God, Abboltion of Political Parties.
Those years of turbulence in her life as the world flames insane.
She burned her way through it indeed.
Get rid of religion, the world is irrational. We don't need more, we need less. (The human heart). We all are only human. Perfect 🥰 That spark of goodness that is sacred, that is grace. Capitalism did not work, socialism, fascism, what is left?
You, with a heart for understanding human suffering

Simone Weil is the Greatest Woman and the Greatest Christian Philosopher of the 20th Century! Everything in her is so deep, real, authentic - she is a little New Jesus Christ!
In Her magnificent philosophical work there is Christian Ontotheology, as well as Christian Ethics, Epistemology, Aesthetics and Infinite Love for the Truth - Jesus Christ!
God bless Her! She is Divinely Pure and God-inspired in Everything!

Your implied concept of faith falls outside of a wide spectrum of thinkers, from Richard Dawkins (a critic of the very idea of faith) to CS Lewis and a whole host of people between them. Faith is seen by all of them as sustained belief despite evidence to the contrary. I was also puzzled that you left out her refusal of baptism and the reasons behind it, which strongly reflect her ethical principles.

If you want to learn about Simone Weil this probably shouldn't be your introduction. The speaker believed the Second World War ended in 1947 and had to be corrected by the audience; it didn't get better after that. We all have bad days and perhaps Mr. Cecil is a really great teacher, but this lecture did not go well at all...
