@@jacobk5062 You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I am going to go ahead an assume you’re American, based on the time you responded to me and your arrogance. I am assuming you don’t know that Northern Irish People can claim ROI (Republic of Ireland) citizenship and have been able to do so since 1956? This also goes for people who were born outside of Ireland (the Island not the country) and have a parent or grandparent who was born anywhere on the Island. (North or the ROI. There is no border between the countries. There hasn’t been since the Good Friday Agreement.
Now, for your rubbish claim that 65% of Northern Irish people Identify as Irish. I see you decided to take the data from the 2021 British Census and combine the people who identify as Northern Irish and those who Identify as Irish. Any one born in Northern Ireland can hold both passports. You can even live in either country once you declare your birthright to citizenship. This is a benefit that people in who were born on the Island, or are of Irish decent, have over the English, Welsh, and Scottish. Based on immigration to Northern Ireland, since Brexit from the rest of the UK, I am sure young people who have immigrated from Britain but aren’t ethnically Irish or born there, do want back into the EU. We in the ROI don’t want the years of violence back, or to retaken by the British. The Catholic (native Irish) population, has now become the majority in Northern Ireland, as we have always been in the ROI. Here is the major issue; for the past 20 years before Brexit both Protestants and to most Catholics were happy to treat us as “the peasants” in the south. In the last ten years the ROI has become one of the wealthiest countries, if not the wealthiest country in the world, per capita. If they want to move to the ROI or even stay in Northern Ireland that is their right. They can still work in either country and hold both passports. (This is why identifying as Northern Irish isn’t the same as considering yourself Irish) Now that you have the context let me correct you. 48.2% (the majority) see themselves as British alone. 33.3% Identify as Irish alone. While 31.5% considered themselves as Northern Irish.
In the past 24 years religion hasn’t played as large a role in the lives of either Northern Irish or people in the ROI. Especially after the Catholic Priest Scandal, and home rule in the North, has allowed for more national identity. However, those who see themselves as Northern Irish, DO NOT want to become Irish. Hence the civil war and troubles. Those who consider themselves British, would be happy to bring back the troubles. My husband is from the North and Catholic. We were just in Belfast last week. From Dublin it’s a little less than a two hour drive. Ireland (the island) is tiny. We are a long way away from being able to reunite based on the bigotry I have experience.
While I have no doubt that young people are anti-monarchy, and want to join the Republic because of Brexit, as well as the economic hardships that have come with that. I also have no doubt, that at least part of it is coming from English, Scottish and Welsh immigration. As they do not have the luxury of being legally both British and Irish.
One last point; the majority of Northern Ireland still consider themselves British or Northern Irish. Our government in the ROI is Sinn Féin. They are the most popular party and run our government.Just this year, they have dominated in local elections, in Northern Ireland. When they inevitably win in the General Election in the North, we will be looking at being forced into a United Ireland. There currently isn’t a civil conversation. Especially. in Pubs in either country, at the moment. Again, the the majority of North see themselves as British and Northern Irish. Twenty four years has not been long enough, for either side to heal. Right now, things are about as good for us in the ROI as I have ever seen. The Brits see Sinn Féin as terrorist, where as in the ROI they are our oldest party. They love to pretend that Plantation just magically happened as did The Great Starvation. It will cost the ROI between 10 billion and 30 billion just to get Northern Ireland to our same level of living standards. That is a lot to ask when the British army killed my father in law, four of my cousins and my boyfriend from in Secondary school in the 90’s.
In the future it’s best not to try to “educate” someone with vastly more experience than you. Or to distort the facts to “win” an argument. Especially when you clearly don’t have the foggiest idea of what you are saying. Ireland and Northern Ireland are complex issues. It is incredibly arrogant to assume that you know more than I do, considering I have lived here all my life, and grew up with the constant threat of violence, in a country that was extremely poor as a result of the Brits. My Mam’s side of the family was in Donegal. While that is in the ROI, it’s the farthest Northern county in the Country, and borders Northern Ireland. I did have a laugh over your silly attempt to correct me. However, I do hope you learn all of the nuance someday. Yes, Northern Ireland is British , and yes, the majority see themselves as British.

Interestingly enough, the Norse (Denmark) arrived in Greenland during the 10th century, while the Inuit arrived in the 13th century, 200 years later. The Norse colony “disappeared”, and contact with the colony didn’t occur until the 15th century, where it’s believed by some that the Norse integrated with the Inuit.
So, most Greenlanders probably have some European ancestry, although they are not European. The history is super interesting

Technically the Norse / Denmark has an earlier claim to the land than the Inuit, and most of the “Inuit” that live there certainly have European ancestry in one way or another.
Edit: “The Early Dorset replaced these early Greenlanders around 700 BCE, and themselves lived on the island until c. 1 CE. These people were unrelated to the Inuit. Save for a Late Dorset recolonisation of northeast Greenland c. 700 CE, the island was then uninhabited until the Norse arrived in the 980s. Between 1000 and 1400, the Thule, ancestors of the Inuit, replaced the Dorset in Arctic Canada, and then moved into Greenland from the north.”

To me, I feel like it’s what happened at Roanoke in the U.S. The most plausible explanation is that the Europeans adopted Native customs in order to survive and then overtime became completely assimilated into the local population, leaving them to “disappear”.
As for if there was another tribe when they arrived that they weren’t sware of or didn’t interact with, I’m unsure. Could 100% be the case, I’m not an expert on this part of history by any stretch of the imagination.
But that tribe was not the Inuit, and the Inuit are not technically natives if you know what I mean. But also I consider myself a Native American and, well, I am only a second generation American, so being native turns into a semantics argument

As a Dane I would like to note that our government and people have said on several occasions that we are fine with Greenlandic independence but the money with give Greenland each year for being a part of Denmark would stop (they get 3.9 billion DKK each year) and then Greenland whines and says it’s unfair because we should still give them money when they are gone. (Greenland as in the self rule government, the people of Greenland I have talked to do also see this as dumb, of course you will not get money when you don’t fill the criteria for the money)
Btw if you wonder how easy it is for Greenland to be it’s own country.
“As part of the self-rule law of 2009 (section §21), Greenland can declare full independence if they wish to pursue it, but it would have to be approved by a referendum among the Greenlandic people.”
Like I love Greenland, my friends from Greenland and all it’s people I just don’t want it to sound like we Dane’s are holding Greenland with us by force or gun point, because they can literally legally leave when the fuck ever they want to.

With 450 million citizens currently and Ukraine already having applied for membership and certainly fighting with all its heart to belong to the same Europe which is represented via the European Union, that gives us roughly some 490 million people who are associated with the European Union and only leaves less than 1/7 of Europe that’s not part of the EU or so far removed from the rest of Europe that it’s politically practically another world. Geographically, it’s true that he EU doesn’t represent all of Europe but practically, the writing is in the wall.
