So, if you bought a ball from us, you might start seeing a few shoots coming up like this. That's the main body that you want to keep. We want to get rid of these bits and pieces, but while you're there, you might as well check it all over. Any flowers like that, just take off. Just go around, anything that you think is going to start to shoot, just snip off. These ones here, just have a look at it and then kind of try and figure where you've got to trim in relation to the rest of the bowl.
There you go, piece of cake. It looks like that.

    Hello
I have one of those but the ball barely has any branches. It's very gapy. Should I drastically trim it back or lightly trim it to encourage new branches to grow? Yours looks fab there!
    Thanks

There is probably no need to be drastic, Bay is naturally bushy so a gentle prune all over, removing the tips of every stem and cutting the longest ones into line with the rest will stimulate new growth. Then clip it twice a year until you are happy, after which once per year is OK.
Attend to the roots - are they getting enough nutrients and moisture, or are they pot bound for example?
How is your tree doing now?

    Informative video, Thanks
Is it ok, while pruning to remove the flower buds too ?

Most people grow bay trees for their leaves which are widely used in cooking. So removing the flower buds is fine.

How do I get rid of bay tree suckers? My tree is infested and I can't seem to get rid of the problem.
