- How @AnnenMayKantereit can write songs covering the entire emotional spectrum is beyond me. So many of the things they sing about bring me to specific moments in my life and this song was no different.

Severin usually announces this song in live play that they wrote it for 2 friends that they lost.... There were 2 of their classmates that died on a world tour after the baccalaureate in a car accident... they were only able to write about it 7 years after the event (they used to play another song in their memory before)..... Did you notice the suitcase being used as a base drum (amk did that when they wrote songs while travelling)..... the lyrics describe grief and a bit of surviver's guilt, too, I think... beautifully expressed
For me "Sowas kriegst du aus dem Herzen nicht mehr raus" -> Such thigs can't be removed from your heart is an especially beautiful phrase because in german wie usually use it in the context of stains in clothes. Like "Rotwein kriegst du nicht mehr raus" -> You won't get redwine (staines) removed. Beautiful peotry to take this conecpt over to a humans heart.
Of course, you've noticed that there is another untranslatable play on words: The phrases "was wahr ist" ("what is true") and "was war, ist" ("what was, is") sound absolutely identical in German.
The seriousness & palpable pain is the ultimate emotion in this. This is about his late mother. Very heavy indeed.

@@walterooski He refers to his mother in some of his lyrics. It always seems the pain is on a whole different level in the songs about her, versus the love/break-up songs. She left the family when Henning was very young and died when he was in his late teens. I don't know much more, since he doesn't really talk about her. But the songs he writes about her are so devastating. Breaks my heart every time.

Sadly it’s not about losing someone to a break up. It’s worse. And as Henning says - you can’t remove that from your heart. You doomed to carry that loss till the end of your days

This song is about his dad and his mom. He grew up with a single dad. So it makes a lot of sense that this reminded you of your marriage.
