    My favorite part of the Deacon's costume in the film are the sixpack rings on his shoulders. It really enhances his environmentally unfriendly image.

      Yes, totally! So many great details in the costume design on this film!

    I wondered what those fins were when Enola was looking into the water. They didn't show the tracker sharks so I assumed they were parts of one of the jet skis....somehow. They showed the jet skis underwater a bit later so my little kid mind just connected them. It's way cooler to imagine the tracker sharks circling the boat though.

      You know, now that you mention it, I think I might have assumed the same thing as a kid! I really hope some footage of the "work-in-progress" animated shark that were cut from the film come to the surface someday.

      I always wondered about this as well and it was one of the many unexplained aspects to this amazing movie. This youtube channel has explained sooooooo much about this movie for me and I am so happy to have found it.

    R.I.P Dennis Hopper who played many Villains 🦹‍♂️ in those Movies 🎥 Back in the mid 1990’s!

      Indeed, Dennis Hopper left a legacy spanning several decades. Do you know if he had any other action figures made of him? Was there a King Koopa figure from the Super Mario Bros. movie?

    It's a shame we never fully see Tracker Sharks in the film; aside from dorsal fins spotted by Enola just before the Mariner returned to the surface after showing Helen the ancient city of Denver, Color-ado.
    The sketch drawing looks like they have the face of a Goblin Shark but with a blue-skinned body like Blue Sharks. Po-ssibly from hybridization?

      @TheAtoll  Před rokem

      Aww yeah! I had to look up Goblin Shark, but your totally right! Very similar, I am sure it was the inspiration behind the concept art.

    3:05 blackened swimmer goggles? I thought it was a chinstrap to a football helmet

    • @TheAtoll
      @TheAtoll  Před 5 měsíci

      He wares two different eye patches in the film. One is blackened goggles towards the beginning of the film, and at the end it looks more like a chin strap when he's delivering his speach on the bridge of the Deez.

      Hmm, yes, I believe it was sold in a Julien's auction about 10 years back. www.julienslive.com/m/lot-details/index/catalog/30/lot/9234/WATERWORLD-DENNIS-HOPPER-DEACON-COSTUME

      @@TheAtoll That's pretty cool. I'd always thought that Deacon wore only actual weathered military medals instead of a few mixed in with home-made ones

      I always tried to pick out all the little things in these kinds of movies, trying to figure out what exactly the filmmakers used for costumes and setpieces, but never noticed the junk medals

    Bit of an odd question but is the Atoll prop you use in the thumbnails real? Was it custom made, or part of some big unknown set piece? Or is it all a 3D model? I just wanted to know.

    • @TheAtoll
      @TheAtoll  Před 2 lety +1

      Ha, yeah they are 3D models I created in Blender some years back. I photographed the figures and photoshopped them into the rendered backgrounds. Maybe over the winter I will update the intro bump and underwater TV widgets for the channel with a new renders. I just got a job doing 3D animation for a nautical technologies company, and I have learned a lot more about creating CGI water, so it would be fun to do an updated look for these pieces I use over and over again!
