    Extremely helpful comment re drain plug not draining. Will add comment about whether this solved my non-draining problem. Thanks!

    Good vid!
    You really shouldn't ever put anything but distilled water in it. As soon as you introduce minerals, the corrosion starts. It may take several years but eventually the white junk starts growing in your radiator.

      I’m with you there. That’s why I like distilled

    You still had coolant in block and heater core that caused the discoloration! Great video thanks!🙏🏻

    Question on my coolant change. I drained the coolant, then refilled the radiator full. I started the truck with radiator cap off to see if level would go down, but it just kept pushing the coolant back out of the radiator. So I put the cap on and took it for a drive to warm it up and open the thermostat, my issue is the truck was doing good then all of a sudden it over heated really fast. I think there was alot of air trapped in the system yet. What do you think about the issue? Thanks for any help.

    Im going to do this soon on our 03 as well, new hoses from genos and a cummins thermostat as well. Will be draining then flushing it with distilled water through a few heat cycles then drain that and put new coolant again. I will be taking the rad out and cleaning the outside with a pressure washer due to dirt.

      @OutpostCTD  Před 3 lety +1

      That should turn out great. You may see lower temps this summer with the dirt cleaned out of the rad

      @@OutpostCTD you should do a power steering flush too!! I dont see any videos about it for cummins on youtube. I did it on my 03 and used two threads on cumminsforum.com from the 3rd gen non powertrain area I believe.... you will still find them if you go back a few pages because I bumped them. Basically the power steering cap mod helps release system pressure and the flush gets new fluid in. I had 177k on my oem pump which sounded horrible, and when I drained it the color was dark brown with rubber peices in it.... so it was oem fluid from 2003 !!! I kept loosing ps fluid and it leaked bad and the pump sounded like it was going to explode. After the ps cap mod and 2 flushes later I now dont loose any fluid on the oem pump and hoses, and it only whines when warmed up not cold, so im very happy.

    I put a coolant filter on mine when I noticed a bunch of gunk after I filled a small water bottle. Gonna do a coolant change and want to use the one for cummins.

    How many gallons of coolant is in 2001 dodge 5.9 when completely full? I'm needing to drain and flush the system to replace my radiator. I guess I also need to know how much is in the block vs the radiator so I can mix the proper 50/50 mix when done.

    You should never use regular water in your coolant system. Only distilled water is ok. The reason is tap city or especially well water contains minerals that will corrode aluminum and iron. Distilled water does not contain any minerals and will not cause corrosion.

    You don’t or didn’t drain the reservoir tank.

      @@OutpostCTD Thank you sir!! So here's a question for you. I've got an 05 with only 72,000 miles. Would you replace thermostat and hoses at the same time due to years?

      If it’s the same type of coolant it’s okay. Read the description or google it. Oat, Hoat, Iat are the three types I know of. Try not to mix them

    isn't the reason your original coolant is orange is because its a diesel and diesel require the special anti freeze that you mentioned...OAT coolant is for diesels and it orange...

    • @900Yugo
      @900Yugo Před rokem +2

      Chryslers HOAT coolant is orange/red,but Zerex G-05 is Chysler approved for these applications. Even though the color is different,the formulation is identical. I wouldn't worry too much,since color itself means nothing. The chemistry does.
