This will either be the start of BetaCraft's golden age, full of active players and fun places, or it's downfall from the invasion of toxic players.
Hey guys, it's 2/7/21, It's hard to say if it's positive or negative. On the bright side, new players have joined, especially on ClassicalNuts. We had a Lava Survival event, it was pretty fun and everyone seemed pretty nice, even though the event broke twice. On the dark side though, grief bans visibly increased.

@@dibershai6009 The alternate timeline, probably: Among Us has been released in the year 2010, it's very small community has decided to build their local joke into Minecraft "Amogus"
I checked it really briefly and it even brings back the old sounds that used to be in the game (Like the doors for example). I absolutely love this, they might need to make some small adjustments however.
One thing Mojang/Microsoft might not like about this, is that you can basically play the game for free using this launcher. Another thing I noticed, is that if you enter a username used by another MC player (e.g. one of your friends or a youtuber), without signing in, you can run around in the game using their username and their most recent skin.
Lets hope that Mojang/Microsoft does not shut this down now that there is more attention for this project.
to expand on this a bit further, you can start two instances of the game using the launcher with different names, then host a server and set it to "Offline mode" this will allow both instances to connect to the same server, using the skin and username provided by the users. So in a LAN setting, this would bypass owning the game.
This is not the only free launcher. There are tens of diffrent cracked launchers you can downloaf for free more than half of the minecrfat players play on those cracked launchers. I use a launcher named Titan Launcher its free and it has all the versions from alpha to today. Why would I pay money ıf I can play the same game free?

I like how alternative launchers are becoming more and more popular. A few years ago it was a nieche thing only a few people did, now launchers like multimc are well-known. Launchers like lunar or badlion modify the game to contain many mods and to optimize performance, and also have thousands of players at all times. It's pretty convenient, ngl. It's much easier to use than fabric or forge.
A few years ago? The Technic Launcher and Feed The Beast have been around for the majority of Minecraft's lifetime
Sure, they have always existed, but the average player didn't know about them.
The recent curseforge launcher makes playing modded MC as easy as playing Lunar.
@@asimoayyy Just because you just learned about them, doesn't mean they weren't already popular.
@@asimoayyy Uh, yes they did. Tekkit and FTB in particular were incredibly popular back in the day.
Personally, I think it’s fine that Mojang isn’t fixing these old versions. For most of them, 99.9% of people won’t even touch them anyway and Mojang is already super busy working on new updates many, many people will play. However, BetaCraft is an incredible idea for the people who do want to play on these versions. Props to the people who spent time fixing all those old versions.
Agreed, AntVenom said that in the video, I just wish the title and introduction were a less click-baity.
The main thing they need to fix is name verification though. They've just gotta redirect a few links, and it would make servers more secure by a very large margin.
agreed
yeah agreed when there's already a third party launcher for playing older versions then Mojang doesn't need to fix a decade old versions which 99.9% of the playbase won't even play so it's a bunch of wasted resources.
@@xdeathcon isn't older versions of Minecraft (using legacy rather than yggdrasil authentication) only checks account name rather than email address? Even if Mojang made online authentication works again people can just change their account name as easy, and even worse so Mojang no longer prevents repeated account names anymore I think.
Meanwhile third party authentication plugin is a thing for older version of Minecraft. Sure, it was mainly for pirated versions at the time, but that doesn't mean it can't be for legit versions as well. It's really only an issue if people are playing modded (where some mods use fake users for certain blocks, say an auto placer).

I use BetaCraft on a regular basis (I even provided a translation in italian for the launcher), and If I have to say, It's really really well made. The fact that there is every single version archived, Even the reuploads or modified ones, the different choices like the "Quit game" button on older versions or the gamemode switcher for infdev and indev, are all really useful, especially for people like you, antvenom, who need to study (or break XD) these old versions of minecraft.
If I have to say, betacraft almost CHANGED my point of view of playing older versions.
OMFG you just single handedly revived the minecraft classic community, You're a Saint.
Edit: much credit to the coders behind this project, but a voice makes all the difference.
mod support isn't great on BetaCraft, but it is still possible to install them, what you need to do is modify a jar and then put it in .betacraft\versions, and it will appear in the versions list (don't forget to delete META-INF), Moresteck does such a great job at maintaining this launcher, features between being one of the first to support Microsoft Accounts and fixing all of these issues with the game. Thank you for bringing so much exposure to the legacy Minecraft community over the years. One other thing to mention is that BetaCraft works very well under Windows XP, an Operating System that has been end of life for over 7 years now, it even works on older versions than that. I've seen it run on Windows 98 SE, albeit a little unstable.
I still create content on these old versions, and pretty much every time our community gets some exposure, there's always a big increase in viewers. it's not just me who has noticed that, pretty much everyone who still creates content based around these versions benefits from it too. and yet again, thank you!

making a server on any old version?? HELL YEAH I CAN FINALLY PLAY OLD MINECRAFT WITH FRIENDS
By the way you can download most server software for old versions like beta 1.7.3 on the minecraft wiki page. Just make sure to run the server in offline mode because else it tries to authenticate users from mojangs old authentication servers that are not running anymore which makes the server kick every player because it can't check if you have a valid account. Also I recommend using beta server software because in alpha usernames are broken which means every time someone logs in they join as a new player with a default name that just says player with a random 3 digit number. And alpha servers tend to be unstable with some essential survival mode features not working properly in multiplayer like furnaces. Classic pre alpha servers have to be set up differently because the game runs in a web browser. But there is an official multiplayer Classic version that is free to play on a web browser provided by mojang. There you can just copy a link and send it to your friends so they can join your game.
and then you realize you have no friends

this is history Mojang really needs to save
based on the fact that microsoft is kinda limiting mojang on stuff i dont think their allowed to because of microsoft forcing people to spend money on new consoles and shutting down servers to force it (tbh im more thinking of the fact that texture packs and skins cost money and made for profit even when it used to be a very very big rule against making profit off that stuff)

When your survival world is now almost 12 years old and you realize, oh no I have gotten old. The amount of Terrain gen borders I have built separating the alpha terrain gen from the beta terrain gen and so on, is insane. Those projects took me months each as I continued to explore farther from my spawn chunks. The largest one is gunna be the one I am working on for the 1.18 caves and cliffs update. Separating all of those thousands of loaded chunks that pre-date 1.18s newer caves and newer terrain is kind of crazy. I am not even half way done with that task yet. Wish me luck.
(I have other worlds I have played in probably more than my original, I still work on monthlong+ projects in it every now and then)
My main wonder is if you can port the world's you make with this program over to the main game. If so, that would be interesting.
you just need to copy and paste the world file from betacraft to the normal launcher
"I do have the technical knowledge to do this, but I'd rather just, not."
As a Linux user, I FEEL THIS SO HARD XD
The Minecraft community is just amazing, unlike anywhere else would you find so much dedicated players to the point they create their own launcher and fix bugs in a 10 year old version of the game, thanks for enlightening me on this topic!
I guess there are things like Daggerfall unity but that's kinda different.
I started using betacraft a while ago to play older versions of Minecraft, and to be honest, its been as great as you've explained it! However, using some modifications provided within the betacraft launcher, you are able to delete an infdev world from inside the world, which is quite good. I also found that it functions perfectly but doesn't save anything to the world select screen, meaning that the game is writing data that shouldn't exist, to a place that doesn't exist. I'm surprised that a black hole hasn't appeared yet lol
People are finally noticing Betacraft, I've loved it for quite awhile now, and have been convincing people to convert from MultiMC to this

The old alpha, beta, classic and infdev versions haven’t been in my launcher since I got a new computer. So I was forced to download another program just to play them
That's because the new vanilla launcher has an additional checkbox within settings that you have to check to activate "historical" versions.
@@AntVenom when i had my old computer i think that it must have been ticked when I got the launcher. Thanks for telling me I would never new to do that otherwise.
Honestly, I prefer older versions because my computer that's super beefy (minus GPU cause you know) can run them with 60+fps, often averaging over 100 with graphics maxed, but anything past release 1.8 goes from 60 on max settings to under 30 on lowest settings in 1.16/1.17. I hope the next big update is a huge performance update cause I literally won't be able to play by 1.20 if they don't fix this
I can relate to this. My new laptop isn't working anymore and I have to use my old laptop from 2008 until it is fixed. I was able to play the newest snapshots on it though they are not running on a good enough performance to make them fun to explore. On older minecraft versions like beta I can even run a 2 GB server with me joining it from local host and other players joining from another network if the their client isn't sending too many packets and my device isn't doing any performance heavy random tasks in the background. But mojang are working on making the newest snapshots run on better performance. On the latest snapshot they made the game able to run on more threads than before making the terrain load way faster alongside the simulation distance option and more in the previous snapshot
ive been using this for a long time even before this video, its a really good supporter for classic versions
