- Flashdance had a profound impact through fashion, dance, and as an example of woman's rights and independence. As a Steeltown girl, this was one of my favorite movies growing up and I hope that you enjoy seeing the modern-day locations of this iconic 80s movie.

Let’s dance! Ha ha. Interesting to see places then and now! I like how your chil’un were watching you run and jump at the end! Also I was curious about Vic the cop and checked to see he died in 2010. I’ve always wondered why they have cops directing traffic when a signal would do?
Thank you. My kids had no idea what I was doing. They were so funny. I think Vic the cop only really directed during rush hour when they needed someone out there to really help the flow of traffic.
Let's Dance! Flashdance was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I always love seeing it again from time to time. Pittsburgh looks like such a beautiful city, and area. Would love to go there someday.
It is a great city!!! It was fun to make this video and thank you for watching.
The room with the green stone pillars is at the entrance to the music hall in the same building. It is very beautiful.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing that…you can tell I love my movie history. 😁 Thanks for watching!
Let's dance!! Thank you for all the locations and background info on the movie!
Thank you for watching! 😁🙌🏻
Thank you, I love this movie! This movie bring me back to my childhood when I watched it in my hometown in Indonesia with my parents. I was ard 14yo then, I believe the movie was screening by 1yr late (ard 1984?) as my hometown is a very small town.😢❤ “What a Feeling” , “Gloria” and “Lady lady lady” bring me back a good memory of my childhood.
So glad you enjoyed it! 😁🙌🏻
I almost skipped this video. I never saw the movie. After watching and listening to your discourse on the movie, I now want to see it. The movie music, I've always liked. I bet the kids thought, oh here we go, mom's lost it again. I did watch the entire video. Great job.
Ha!!! Thank you so much 😁 The movie and music are so good and your comment made me laugh! 😂🤣 Glad you liked the video. 🙌🏻
Hi! I remember I was 12 years old when I went to see this film, and it was restricted to people over 14 years of age. So, the man at the box-office asked me: "Are you 14 y/o?" And then he said " if you have the money for the ticket, you MUST be 14 years old" Thank you for the video! Greetings from Argentina.
I am so glad you liked it. I love this movie. Thank you for watching.
Let’s dance! Loved the segment, you did a great job! Now I have to go buy my copy of Flashdance on 4k🙂.
I’m so glad you liked it. It was super fun to film. Thank you for watching and comment
Elementary school in Taiwan, we did film trivia. Flash Dance was on the list. I still remember the movie name in Mandarin. 閃舞。That was the good old days of no internet no smart phones. Movies back then have great music soundtracks.
Great music. Thank you for sharing, cool that you still remember that.
The green marble area in the museum is to the right of the main entrance (after you walk in) OR if the doors were unlocked from the outside you would simply walk up the steps (where Alex saw Nick get in the car with the wife), go through the doors and you would be in there. Every time I have looked through the open doors (from inside the main entrance), I have seen it filled with tables so I think it is used for events (such as weddings).
Oh wow that is cool. I did not go in that way. Thank you for letting me know that was there. Thank you for watching too.
She gave him back one rose at the and bc she realized he didn’t do nothing wrong. He helped her and this was like she would said “thank you and sorry I was such stupid girl”.
Let's dance
I am a certified welder. We did not make any money. And at 18 I could weld anything except a broken heart or the crack of dawn. Now in2022 THAIR beginning for WELDERS. I'm 62 and still WELDING. In 1983 l had the time of my life and saw the movie and fell in love with my date FOREVER. And my 71 lmpala.. thanks for posting. 😉👍
Are you from Pittsburgh too because that would be the trifecta? Thank you for watching. ♥️🤘and for welding.
Let's dance! loved your video. Flying to Pittsburgh next weekend and hope to see some of the sights. I watched the movie more than 60 times. It was my all time favorite
Thank you! It was so fun to film…we love pittsburgh and flash dance ! 😁🙌🏻 have a fun trip!
@@WalkwithHistory thanks!
Thank you for this visit, I was here a few years ago and at some of these locations, I never realized they were in the movie.
Love this movie!
Let’s Dance!! Your so amazing my beautiful friend.
Right back at you girl. Thank you for the undying support. 😘
Let's Dance! One mistake to point out quickly is in regard to Vic the dancing cop location. You did catch your mistake about the Smithfield Street Bridge. But you said the dancing cop was at Penn Avenue and 7th 'Street' -- with street being the key word. In fact that scene was at Grant Street and 7th 'Avenue'. An easy point of confusion. Yet in Downtown Pittsburgh there are numbered Streets and numbered Avenues. All Streets go North and South; all Avenues go East and West. The numbered Streets like 7th Street all start at Liberty Avenue and run North to the Allegheny River. All numbered Avenues (7th Avenue for instance) are all south of Liberty Avenue. Vic was usually seen along Grant Street around 6th or 7th Avenues.
Thank you. That is exactly right and my mistake. I appreciate the comment!!! I hope people remember him and his tribute in this movie.
Let's Dance-Enjoy all your videos. Can't wait to see your future endeavors. From one Penn stater to another "We Are
Penn State!! Thank you for the support, I have a video from Penn State coming up in the next couple of weeks!!!
Interesting. Thank you for the tour. 👍👍👍
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching! 😁
👏LOVED THIS MOVIE 🎥❤😍ALWAYS 😊🙏😊
I love it too! That’s why I was so excited to make this video. 😊 Thank you for watching!
I must have been 5 or 6 when I saw this on television as well as the music video on MTV when they still bothered to play music videos. I remember thinking she was so pretty and loved the songs "What a feeling" and "Maniac"
That is kind of my first memories of this movie too! I still love it. Thank you for watching.
This is great thank you!!
Thank you so much for watching. We appreciate your comment and support.
Let's Dance!
Thank you
Excellent video! Nice job! One thing though ... I'm sorry to inform you but the cop scene is SEVENTH AVE & GRANT ST. Not SEVENTH ST & PENN AVE. That area pretty much looks the same today. The ramp you talk about is still there .
Awe Bummer I thought I was in the right place. Thanks for the correction!!!!
Correction added to the video description…thanks again!!
@@WalkwithHistory A little story I have about Vic the Dancing Cop. I was working alone at a gas station and was robbed at gun point. After he took my money he told me to lay down on the ground so he could get away. When I got up and was about to call the police, a car pulled into the station. It was Vic and his wife! I actually knew him from coming in for gas and he lived in my neighborhood. He was off duty but helped me call the police. Nice guy!
Wow, that is incredible. I am so glad you were ok and he was there to help!!!
Let's dance! :)
Thank you.
I always was fascinated by Hannah's home. She was a ballerina, but my impression was that she lived out her days in obscurity in a semi-run down retirement home. (Run down in the movie anyway as the neighborhood looks spiffed up in the current photos.)
Yes. Hannah was a unique and important character. I always wonder what their connection was, family, friend, fan???
@@WalkwithHistory : I also always wondered how she met up with Alex. This is not explained in the movie.
Let’s dance!!!
Thanks for watching! 😁
Let's DANCE!
Thank you.
Making my long-awaited first trip to Pittsburgh tomorrow:-) Does anybody know where the final scene outside Celebrating with Nick was shot? I must go!
Enjoy the trip. The stairs are the side entrance to Carnegie Museum & Library, 4400 Forbes Ave Carnegie Lecture Hall, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 between Forbes and Schenley Drive. Schenley Drive Extension Street is in front of the steps. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much! We had a magical day! The trees are still there and it gave me the warmest chills! My wife and I re-enacted the last scene with a kiss. I highly recommend the visit for any Flashdance fans!
Inside the Carnegie Art Museum (on the same block) we also captured the hall of sculptures where Alex runs out from the first audition 17 mins into the movie...which was stunningly depicted in the Maniac music video. It felt surreal being there with my own camera.
"Take your passion and make it happen" with a visit as well!
Your lucky that your in the actual real locations of flashdance..we would love to see more like the mawbys bar and jennifers house in the movie..let’s dance!
Thanks for watching! I believe the other locations are all in California. 😊
Mawby's Bar was really filmed in Los Angeles. As for the warehouse that Alex lived in, I have heard some reports it was in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of the Strip District. Others say it was in LA. I am guessing it was in the Strip District in Pgh. Nicks house with the rock in the window was in LA.
At the end where Alex celebrates with Nick by running to him- where was that location?
It is right beside the Carnegie Museum of Natural History on the west side by the park. I run out the same door and hug my kids in the video. LOL
Last dance and hug our kids!
Let's dance to a slow one..gitten up in age ya know
Definitely!!!!!!
I really enjoy your channel. Thank you!
Thank you, I truly appreciate that. I enjoy your channel so much too!!
Let’s dance
Let’s Dance
Thank you for watching!!!
"Let's Dance" _again_
Thanks for watching 😊
What about her apartment? Was that filmed in Los Angeles?
Yes that was filmed in LA. And her riding around in the rain was also filmed in LA. Nicks House is LA and the Bar she dances at is in Chicago.
Let's DANCE! Wait, what? Kevin Bacon didn't do his own dancing? LOL
LOL, I think at one point he said there were like 5 guys dressed like him to do the dancing and the stunts for the warehouse dance scene.
I once read that when he goes to weddings he pays the DJ $100 not to lay Footloose songs so that other wedding guest will not discover that he really doesn't dance
Let's dance! Your kids are cute
Thank you for watching! 😁
Sorry but you made an error with Alex's age, she's 18 not 19. Her age was mentioned by Hanna in their first scene together.
Yes, you are right. Jennifer Beals turned 19 as she filmed the movie but “Alex” is only ever stated as 18.
She's still hot. Today.
great video except for the short TV clips inserted for humor, they just ruined it.
Thank you for the feedback. We have learned as we grew and rarely use those now. Thank you for watching. 😊
wow i love this video are u single lets dance
I am totally taken by the producer of this video!!! But I am always up for a dance. Thank you for watching.
Alex is 18, not 19. Feminist? Maybe, but an 18-year-old woman as a welder in a steel mill in the '80s is not believable! For starters, the union would not have allowed it. And ripped jeans were fashionable long before 'Flashdance' - that started in the 1970s.
Yes we mentioned her age because it is so unbelievable…and thank you for the fact check on her age. 😊Thank you for watching 😁
Let’s DANCE!
Thank you
