- Welcome to Movie Shortens. Robots from a distant galaxy have overtaken Earth. People are implanted and restricted to their homes, with accomplices distributing supplies to the families. A group of teens figure out how to turn off the implants for thirteen hours by using a battery with faulty contacts. One of them also has the capacity to manipulate robots. Will the kids be able to carry out their plan to get rid of the robots' manipulation?

I’m wondering what the robots were planning. I think they were going to scan everyone and turn them into virtual beings in order to save the planet. Now that the robots have been stopped. How long before humans destroy the world with pollution?
@@dinoflagella4185 maybe they just wanted to exterminate everyone after getting enough data? We are highly individualistic species and as movie progresses we've been a thorn for robots even if they just wanted to kept us indoors. They've figured out that the only safe [ for them ] solution to us is death as we will never conform and probably they know about our warrior past.

Yeah sean magically connects to all the robots and there are more plot holes here then I can count. Sometimes good actors, cast or crew can be in really bad movies because they need some extra cash.

Its been a while since I watched the movie, but when Sean is put in for a deep scan his implant is replaced with a different one that's got different abilities required for the deep scan. When he is freed by the others he leaves with the the modified one and not a normal implant. The review misses out on that little important part.
I don’t know if I’d call a tracking device almost as big as a hockey puck “tiny”.
For such an advance cybernetic race, they're technology sure is wack if some 15 yr old boi can hack into their mainframe and shortcircuit their tracking device
Perhaps humans are space gnomes in that scenario and robots just didn't encounter a race so technically inclined to understand and turn them against one another - perhaps whatever they fought before was species that were too primitive, overly hostile and destroyed rather than occupied, too narrow minded, or just advanced in biotechnology rather than carving machinery out of dead matter like we do.
...though, Russian/Chinese hackers probably would have been the first ones to do so rather than random American 15yo boi

Given that the technology is both highly advanced and literally alien, a lot of impossible things could occur. Heck, the fact that there were alien robots that took over the world in only 11 days, and for implants installed on nearly every human is improbable enough
@@tinaherr3856 I mean they are an advance cybernetic race so spreading those implants might have to do with their tech but what I found absurd was how a human, who got shocked by some toaster, somehow gained an ability to override their race if he manages to get contact with them. Gaining independence is one thing but having the ability to litterally hack a race who supposed to be a cybernetic one by a flaw implant is completely movie magic

The Borg wouldn't have been defeated so easily. Those robots accidentally gave that teen the power to defeat them. Had they been Borg & assimilated everyone at the start, Shawn and fam would've been working with the Collective rather than against it.

Story reminds me a little bit of The Tripods Trilogy books by Sci Fi author John Christopher I read as a kid in a school. Books were NOT my thing in school, but I loved these. It was sorta like, War Of The Worlds but without the mass war element. If I remember the Aliens invaded through hypnosis via television. It appeared it was set in 18th century England, very primitive with exception to the ruling tripods. But it turned out, it was actually more of a modern age. The characters come across a subway with automatic weapons lying about, showing it was definitely not 18th century. Sorta like The Village type of reveal. All humans when reached of a certain age would be taken into a tripod and capped thus making them obedient to their tripod masters. There were three books, the white mountains, city of gold and lead and the pool of fire. Would make a hell of a movie trilogy! The BBC made two series of the first 2 books in the 80's, but never made the 3rd book, where it gets REALLY good.

That isn't how gas taps you would find in a British school work, the tap needs downward pressure once opened until the gas meets a flame. As for Robin's deal, 100 acres isn't all that much land (0.4 square kilometres) especially given that once the robots leave (if they planned to leave) he would likely be executed as a collaborator.
This has been done before. But this looks to be a better remake
The ending with him watching in the distance while all the voices around him are muffled and him having a slight smile on his face could be interpreted as he is not in control but vice versa. It left a feeling as the roles were switched, so while he was hacking mediator he was snatched in the process.

You know how I know this movie is unrealistic? Not the aliens, and not the robots but by the fact that in this day and age, children wanting to go outdoors.

Some of the plot of this story seems very familiar. I seem to remember a british novel with a very similar plot. About an Earth which had been invaded by alien robots many years prior. Where humans will have an implant installed when they turn a certain age. But the main character a teenager runs away. But can't remember the title?

Do they explain how Sean is able to control the robots?
The implant given to do a deep-scan forces the brain to send information to the system, only at such a speed and intensity it ends up frying the brain and turning the person into a vegetable, hence why it is considered a death sentence. In Sean's case he escaped before his mind was fried and so has the ability to regulate commands of information from his brain back to the system. The robots or whoever built them didn't think of that possibility.
It looks like a rather uninspired rereading of the Tripods.

I liked this movie as a kid but when i grew up i saw just how this movie is abit of a garbage fire, First no backstory, basically no origin story on how the aliens come to earth and how the military failed to fight them, Instead just went straight to their lost and then it starts the movie, And then the main antagonist is a robot human midget, like i was laughing my ass off just how this villain is even weak, literally got mind controlled easily by the main protagonist although i loved the designs of the robots but the plot is a bit scuffed
I don't mind that lack of information about the robots. It's not important because the movie isn't about them. Would having it be nice? Sure, but we don't really lose anything by not having it either. In addition I think adding more info about the robots would be a detriment as it would add useless information and take away from the main plot.
What I did find problems with is that how did Earth lose when a WW2 Spitfire was a meaningful contribution to the final confrontation?
How is it that nobody ever figured out that electric shocks disables the implants.
And how convenient was it that Sean's implant was so special that it can control the robots?
