  • Joyce and I move our cargo conversion camper to Caratunk, Maine. Home near the Kennebec River and Moxie Falls. We take a hike to the falls and live through a decent thunderstorm. This is the third and last installment of a camping adventure in North Western Maine

Thanks Mike. Yes it is a great place. Lots of them here in Maine. We've seen a lot of them but they are far to many to see them all.

Thanks. Yes, in my 40's-50's I section hiked the AT in New england. 30-100 miles at a time. But the knees are made for shorter hikes now. Not painful just discomfort. I'm the same age as you. Glad to see you're still at it.

Regarding the security advice that you show in the video, there is a very nice natural spot some 25 Km southeast of my hometown, by Mandeo River, and up river there are a couple of mini hidroelectrical power stations, with their correspondent dams. These dams are provided with very noisy alarms which sound everywhen their gates are to be opened, so that people down river are aware of the fact that river level is quickly growing up. But once, several years ago, for some reason the alarms wouldn't sound at all. So the gates were opened and very quickly the river was fed with tons of water which was stored behind the dams, whilst people staying by the river wouldn't be aware of the risk. In consequence, two young boys who were swimming there did die washed down by the strenght of the tide. So, when being by a river, be sure that water level isn't to get increased!

yes, when we rafted there we would listen for the water release to know when to launch the rafts. Very, very loud especially if you are close. I'd think anyone downstream wouldn't be able to miss it.

Thank you for your wonderful videos. I just love watching you and your wife. It’s interesting to me where you camp at and where you travel to. So much fun! We are retired too. Would love to do what you do. Not sure we could afford to build our camper though. You are so blessed to be able to travel and have fun together. Be safe. God bless you both. 😊

Thank you so much. Might I suggest you look out for a decent popup camper on craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. We had one in our family and it towed well and was very versatile. I could have done all my traveling with one without an issues.

I stumbled upon your videos, while searching for recommended items to have while truck camping. My wife and I are now hooked on your videos! We greatly enjoy seeing your videos. We live in Laconia NH. We have been to Rangely this summer. But after seeing your trip to Cathedral Pines, I think we will be headed there before summer is over. Fitting trips in between my work schedule and my wife's chemo treatments. So we can only get away every other week. Your videos help entertain us in between. We really, really enjoy what you are sharing. Best wishes from us, Craig and Becky.

Oh and we purchased a pair of the rechargeable fans you recommended. They absolutely saved us during a couple of overnights in that hot humid weather a couple weeks ago!

Laconia, a beautiful area surrounded by big lakes. I'm on Mousam in Acton, Me. We have frequented Dolly Cop, quite a bit north of you at the base of Mt. Washington. Sort of a mainstay for our family to meet. Haven't been in a couple of years as they have been doing long term renovations. Might go up this fall to check it out. BTW... Kind words. Joyce finds them heartening. Thnx.

@@btrbuilders Aren't they great! We used them for the first time on this week long trip. We hit some really hot weather a few days. We didn't bring the AC. We often don't. The fan was much better than I even anticipated. Sometimes you actually do find something worth the cost.

@@btrbuilders yes, supposedly 24 hrs on low and 6 on high. But even in hot weather low was plenty at night. And as you saw they start a fire pretty good too.

Thanks. Sure but I don't know about how much detail in a youtube reply. It's just built on the back using plywood above the bed and framed in with rabbeted wood around the edges and painted with white exterior house paint. The screen is nice with hardware they have to make them now. Look up at Lowes "screen kits" it comes with the metal frames and hardware to make a screen. They also have a white, wide plastic cap to go over it after. A note: Be sure to use the aluminum screening not the cloth one. It mounts flat and without waviness in it. The aluminum one stretches tight. Hope this brief explanation helps.
