  • Today I'm testing out a portable charger called ChargeCard that resembles a credit card. It was featured on Shark Tank and today I offer my review.

4:50 Charging a battery from a 0% to 50% is quicker than charging it from 50% to 100%. The emptier the battery, the less time it takes to charge one percent. So the Anker would be even quicker if they had the same starting conditions.

    • @M20QTR

Also the cable used factors into the testing. Some cables are certified for more wattage which results into faster charging.

To be fair, not a lot of people know how batteries charge and how charging times aren't linear. That being said, I still like and am okay with the testing methodology here because it gave the bigger power bank a disadvantage and it STILL beat the "card" charger.

It's a "Shark Tank" item. I'm quite sure someone in Asia took it apart and made a cheap version that looks similar and cranked it out with advertisements within a few weeks. China is infamous for ripping off other IPs. And with their many manufacturing companies loosing big name contracts, they'll be doing anything they can to recoup losses.

The *BEST* thing that this could've been used for, is emergency charging.
You really don't need 2000mah on this.
You don't because you literally cannot carry it for convenience, you have to carry it separately (even while charging, looks like), so it doesn't beat out regular powerbanks.
If it's 1000mah, with half the size, that fits in your wallet, then this is really a game changer.
When you have 0 battery, and you really need that final text / final email, whatever, then you just plug it into your phone, open your phone, do that final thing, and that's that.
Specifically being used for emergency purposes.
It has no place or business competing with regular powerbanks, even "convenient" powerbanks like magbaks.

$59 seems very expensive for a 31% bank after an hour and 20 minutes. My hubby and I just upgraded our family phones after 4.5 years (3 years for our son) and got MagSafe cases. My son and I chose Anker power banks that magnetically attach and are maybe half again as thick as this for half the price. I believe they’re also good for multiple full charges.
Nice to see you’re also still using your Allet wallet and that none of the new ones have supplanted it. Hubby still likes his too. I got for him for Christmas after your initial review of it and was not surprised when it made your top ten that year.

I have a charge bank but mine you just lay your phone on top and it charges it. It is a lot faster than that little one and charges the phone all the way. But like you said, it is bigger, heavier and thicker than that tiny charge card. I cannot see paying over $50 for something that won't even charge it to 50%. Thank you for sharing with us. I trust your reviews over others because you don't let people pay you for your opinions.

I’ve varied mine for over two years in two different leather wallets. It fits snugly but easily in all three credit card sleeves in my current wallet and although it won’t fully charge any phone, it’ll keep your phone useful and from dying when you aren’t near an outlet. Just check the pockets on the wallet you intend to get before you buy. 🙄

Just a quick fyi for future battery charging speed tests: batteries charge way faster from 0 to 50% than they do from 50 to 100. A more accurate charging speed test would be to charge both batteries starting in the same percentage.

They might have to get a deal with the Ridge wallet, but since it is the size of 6 credit cards, it significantly diminishes the number of cards you carry with the Ridge wallet. The Ridge can carry up to 12 credit cards but that is pushing it.

I use a mini-briefcase novelty business card holder for a wallet, probably would fit that. Don't laugh, it's actually a great wallet. Has two working latches. Put a phone wallet on one side for quick access to my most used cards and then a clear ID holder on the other side that I store my DL and ECC card in (even though the ECC uses the DL number) and then the inside supports 18 credit cards while being as thick as the slim mint wallet. And the handle on it can latch to a keychain to then hook onto my belt loop. This looks like it could fit that "wallet".

yea its if it can't easily fit in your wallet, might as well get anything else that can fit in a pocket or fanny/sling bag for much bigger capacity and charge quicker. Picked up the anker 5000mah battery bank with the built in charger which is pretty convenient for $20 during prime day.
Also picked up an anker 10000mah battery bank with a built in cable which is pretty convenient as well. very small can easily fit in my cargo pants lower pocket or fanny.
Been listing anker but there are other brands that offer similar stuff too but yea in the end, but yea idk who the charge card is for at this price.
The other issue would be if it did fit in your wallet properly... you'd likely forget its there after use and might be out and about and need it and forgot you already drained it.

This is a rip-off if you ask me. There are many different models out there: TravelCard Plus, Clutch Charger, Auskang Portable Charger, and the TNTOR Ultra Thin Power Bank. I've personally used the TravelCard for a few trips, and it's great to keep in your pocket for emergencies. If you're out all day and need to call an Uber at the end of the night, it's great for peace of mind. I'm going to buy the TNTOR one next because it's only $20 USD, much cheaper than all the competition. Also, there are 2500mAh, 2500mAh, and 5000mAh versions. I like the smallest version to slip in my pocket. I have a normal 10,000mAh power bank for regular use while travelling that I keep in my backpack. This does not replace that one, just complements it.

That thing is ridiculously expensive for the capacity when it doesn't even fit in places it's designed to. Basically, I would say this is best used for an absolute emergency in your glove box or luggage, but then again, you can get much higher capacity with more charging amps for less money and not much more space.

I definitely think this isn't worth the money. That said, given that the width matches that of a normal credit card, it probably would fit in a wallet where cards go in in landscape rather than portrait orientation.

Thank you for sharing your opinion on this charge card. I prefer the regular USB power bank, they work great. I make in door/outdoor fantasy water fountains, 3-4ft high, and I use USB mini water pumps the 3 gal's of water, and the fully charged USB power bank lasts up to 6-7 hours. After watching this video, I will not purchase the Charge card.

I wonder if it would charge faster if you put the phone on low power and airplane mode And turn off wifi.

doubtful, I think they limited the charge speed on purpose because the battery is so slim, so it does not get hot, and risk fire when charging something.

So, it's a power bank, but it's much worse. I don't know anyone who doesn't carry a small bag everywhere. Hell, even a 10,000mAh power bank can fit in most jacket pockets.

You paid $60 FOR THIS? You can get a battery pack / vehicle jump starter for that price that has 10x the capacity!

Optimized charging on smartphones affects how fast it charges so it would be better to start both tests at 10% battery remaining.

I think if you are describing something as being the size of a credit card, you are implying it is actually larger. Lol
