"back when the earth was cooling" lmao shes awesome
finally a "boomer" that isn't annoying.
I love how deeply he values Kayla the character and Elsie the human. Young girls are so overlooked and underestimated by society, and he sees her as a so vital, so important.
I wonder if Bo wears the "pretentious french independent movie maker" outfit ironically or not
I think both. He knows that he has the right to, so he does, yet he knows it’s a joke.
J I love this comment!
Maybe he just likes the look?
I actually do want to know where he got that shirt. It’s a nice shirt.
J ah you beat me to it. Was going to say the exact same thing
I love the smell of anxiety sandwiches in the morning
I love the older brother younger sister bond they have together. I hope they stay friends forever!
“The boys talk about Fortnite and the girls talk about their souls”
True
"At that age" haha
yeah that was hilarious. boys do develop later mentally though, kinda makes sense
Boys don't "develop later mentally" they're just into different things and saying the girls are deeper because they talk vlog while the boys game is absurd
kylo no its because the patriarchy and boys are allowed to get away with more things so it takes time for them to mature and stop thinking the world revolves around them
@@mschell350 uh, yeah no. boys just hit puberty later than girls and with that comes the mental development aspect. stretch before you reach, ma'am,
Bo looks like Steve Jobs
People call him Bo Jobs for nothing
Elsie is actually 15! No wonder it felt so authentic in the movie
Victor Chang She was 14 during filming :00
It's nice to hear Bo laugh. But it's also nice to hear Elsie's relatable "i feel nervous too!" 😁 Big Mood
C
Can you imagine how cool it is to be the star in Bo Burnham’s movie and do Q and As with him? That must be amazing. Also, can’t wait to see eighth grade. I’m the same age as Elsie, so that’s cool.
Ok, bo is so fucking supportive of that child star. Like, did you see at 1:09 he gives her a nod like "This is awesome right? Don't be nervous you're doing great" #BestDirectorBo ...I may be projecting a bit
I love how inclusive the interviewer is of Elsie like she is always encouraging her to give her opinion
I love how much even though bo deals with anxiety he is constantly trying to make sure that Elsie is comfortable and ok and having a good time it’s beautiful
Bo's on the path of being one of the best directors of this generation. It's happening, and I couldn't be more thrilled about it. Love him.
Thumbnail is just perfect hahaha
Bo looks like he's having a panic attack that hes trying to cover up
He said that making this movie made him much less anxious with crowds. If he's anxious, I bet it's because he's talking to people from the academy about a movie that could get him decorated come next year. Directorial debut oscar-winners is a pretty exclusive club.
This is Gucci.
*dab*
👌🏻
bo with elsie is the sweetest thing
I know this is years after this video was uploaded to CZcams, but I just got done watching Bo's "Inside" a week ago and then I found out about this movie. It did well on RT so I decided to give it a shot going in pretty blind. It had me nervous and feeling very uncomfortable in an anxious way for Elsie's character and I am a 35 year old guy. So I think the movie 100% did it's job and was directed in a way that didn't feel fake. I felt uncomfortable because I was putting myself in her shoes throughout the whole movie and it brought me back to moments of my own time in 6th-8th grade or so.
The "rye" (wry) bread of wit - my goodness what a pun master
How did he just pluck that genius line out of the ether? Crazy.
I'm feeling some sympathy for Bo. I've realized that throughout these interviews he's kind of repeated the same things, while effectively playing off like everything is semi spontaneous. That's gotta be a byproduct of his daily struggles. Really not judging, I imagine I'd be the same way if something I made gained a lot of attention.
i think its just so he has some structure for the important things he wants to say about the movie
Nice opinion.
I think if you look at a lot of interviews with directors and actors for a certain movie, they probably usually give similar answers over and over due to a lot of similar questions that are asked at them throughout different interviews.
Its all really simple. If the questions are similar from one interview to another, then the answers will be similar. That's it. I think you're reading too much into it.
That is a super fair point. I guess I'm being alert because in the past he's described having some problems that we happen to share, and I could be putting too much weight on our similarities with my concerns here. Bottom line though I hope he's ENJOYING the success of his movie rather than regretting it for making him say the same thing 40 times while having to say it like it's a fresh thought.
There's like 0 chance he'll regret the movie in the long run, again I just hope he's doing okay now.
Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice, Green Book and Black Panther were nominated for Best Picture and the Academy didn't nominate Eighth Grade. You absolute dolts
and the winner GREEN BOOK deserves the spot the least.
@@jenniferariesta6464 Noooooo it doesn't
Awesome interview! Thanks for this. Eighth Grade such a good film. Gucci!
I am so proud of Bo he managed to not only create an amazing movie and also receive great feedback from both mainstream and new media.
'Wry bread of wit' I see what you did there Bo.
Burnham, Chris Rock, Woody Allen, Jordan Peele, Louis CK, David Cross, Zach Braff etc etc...
Funny people make great filmmakers and I always look forward to it. There's something about comedians well rounded outlook (of sad AND FUNNY) that makes them better storytellers in my opinion. Hopefully we'll continue to see more of it.
Danny McCaffrey and the structure of jokes is essentially manipulating emotions with such mastery
AHEKDNWK WOODY ALLEN
Oh, Bo 😊
Данил Каримов dont you think that im rude because of this complex ooze-Repeat stuff
Hmmmmmm... can’t tell if intentionally using title of song
I hope this gets noms for Best Actress, Supporting Actor, and original screenplay.
Who’s supporting actor?
It's funny listening to him describe his process for writing this movie because if you left the title of this video blank I would think he's describing inside as well
Elsie trying to bite back that little smile at 7:23 is the cutest thing
I wish Bo did more interviews, I could watch this dude talk about anything
amazing interview OH BO I LOVE YOU
Wait, so once the filmmakers get an Academy Conversation, does that mean that they are being considered for nominations?
Vinchenzo Morales Not necessarily. Usually to get into an Academy Conversation a film has to be acclaimed by critics, or to be considered innovative, or simply because they’re by a famous filmmaker. However many of those that do get an Academy Conversation are considered for prestigious awards (being the Oscars one of them)
The oscars are a rigged system anyways, really great movies could always be on the list, but it really comes down to whoever can shell out the most money to the academy that determines which movie or actor/tress wins
Sammy Maxwell
Caugh caugh Black Panther
This is substantial
0:24 "i felt like I had enough BOmentum at the time"
I love elsie so much. Shes Amazing
When Bo said “I made my last special” my heart dropped
I hope he was saying just for the time being but a part of me thinks that he will not make another special
Anyhow I’m excited for what he does next
I don't think he'll do stand up again, he says he has several panic attacks on stage and doing stand up was really stressful for him. I remember in one of the interviews he said he never wanted to go through that again (I don't remember which one, I'm sorry)
So if does choose to do stand up again, great, but if not, that's great too.
Seeing this now and being like :,)
I have great news…
@@crycrywolf ayyyyyy
@@yasaiaisa8363 he performed a couple days ago at the largo and i think a couple weeks ago at the largo before :))
What a good interviewer.
This conversation is Gucci AF.
im so excited to see this movie
Love Bo.
body odor
anxiety sandwich
when you fuck your soulmate
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie.
Wtf is going with Bo's T-Shirts?
First two specials, White.
Make Happy:- Grey
And now Black.
Bo going to the Oscars!? Heck yes!
@8:00 * cough * Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour * cough *
I NEED IT!!!
LOL I went to Thousand Oaks HS rival school Westlake HS and I heard awful things about their theatre program. Our theatre teacher literally would say no comment. (Ms. Burke when I was there) which is pretty telling. Just poorly run and Donia just being rude to students in general. Kudos to Bo for standing up for her!
Rye bread of wit. Nice
god they had better win a fucking Oscar for this movie
Bo looking like Jobs here MUST be a prank
Can't wait until A24 pushes this movie at awards season and forgets about Hereditary, Lean on Pete, and First Reformed. Already preparing myself for that Andrew Haigh snub for Best Director and Toni Collette snub for Best Actress.
I don’t think A24 will waste their time pushing Hereditary. Even though it’s one of the best horror/dramas of the last few years, we all know the Academy looks down on all things horror (even though there is a lot more to Hereditary than the horror elements).
It’s because Eighth Grade is more marketable. I even heard it was called “the Lady Bird of this year,” which isn’t really fair for either film. I love all four of those films and A24 is killing it as usual. Toni Collette deserves the nom and should definitely win as of now. Out of all of those, I feel like Lean on Pete will have the least likely chance of getting nominated unfortunately.
There's heavy talk of Collette getting a nom and at this point, she better get one
Toni Collette won’t get a nom. Maybe at the golden globes but she doesn’t have the traction or momentum for the academy.
reese givens I believe she was nominated for The Sixth Sense in ‘99
Musical comedy where are ya at?
Good movie
Gucci means all good
They're just too cute!!!!!
Why is Bo keeping the movie’s budget a secret?
Rubrik man
It’s 2 million .
bo goat
Why is this here, this was snubbed
GUCCI 👌🏻
Sanjuro died for this :D F
Gucci is a Fashion company?
Alexs321432 I think she means just saying it for no fucking reason. Like not in the sense of a clothing company and more as a vocal and physical tick in a defense to not end something awkwardly even tho it probably makes it even more awkward
9:21
she does say "Gucci is my creation".
Nobody really cares but I just wanted to point it out lol.
Maybe im hearing it wrong? Is it Guchi? ;)
Alexs321432 Nope, it’s Gucci just like the clothing brand. I haven’t seen the movie yet but it seems it’s used as an ice breaker when Kayla doesn’t know what to say
@@Alexs321432 Gucci was / is something people have been saying for years, especially to mean: good, cool, good to go, etc.

bo's sideburns are always slightly too long.. but that's okay
wolfgang16 You know if he sees that comment, it's going to fuck with him forever.
Film people talk like it's a great deal to be able to make films. They are so great that they are making films and we should be greatful that they are making films.
I mean wtf, a film can be made with bunch of passionate kids. If you really value movie cherish them for their accessibility not for their elite status.
Bo has to wait for 10 years to realize his dreams and somehow that is a good thing.
Anybody else found it uncomfortable when she used "black people in the south in the 20's" as an example of a different demographic she could relate to?
It wasn't cringy, just a weird example... compared to the many examples she could have chosen.
I don't think she means relate... i think she means, connect.
Just because you're not a black man in the south, in the 20s, doesn't mean you can't connect to that character on a basic level. Ie, feeling their pains or triumphs. (When character building is done correctly)
Nope, perfectly normal, she pulled a random list of characteristics out of thin air that were far away from who she is for illustrative purposes much like improv comics/ actors do. I don't see why there's anything wrong with that at all. She could have said literally anything far away from her madlibs style, Chinese doctor in the 80's, Mexican linebacker, Polynesian fisherman in the 40's etc. The whole point of movies, and good story telling in general, is to make you feel something, relate to the main characters, put yourself in their shoes and sympathize with their circumstances even if they're vastly different to your own.
"gucci was my own creation"
lol honeyyy...no
I don't think she meant it that way. I think she just meant that it wasn't in the film originally so she created that addition.
pretty sure the way she delivered it and her tone made it her own creation. But hey, keep killin' with your insightful comments!
moiraine_damodred
You dumb af
He repeats himself in every interview, its a little cringe.
Kroneexe well they're all asking the same questions
Bruh what do you want him to do 💀
