Damn. Bo's theory on how and why kids these days are feeling empty in the midst of the most protective "caring" parents ever is really interesting. I haven't heard it voiced quite like that before but it makes sense to me.
That part made me pause and contemplate for 10 or 15 minutes
It’s so accurate to me as a Gen Z. Especially the part about feeing like there’s an audience and not approaching life moment by moment
Exactly! Me too
Watching this after Bo’s new special and the ethos behind “Welcome to the Internet” is crystal clear now
I'll 2nd that!
It's not exactly subtle haha.
Yup! I agree.
Wow, what a smart word, nErd
Wow I can see that
12:35 "I don’t know about you guys, but, um, you know, I’ve been thinking recently that… that you know, maybe, um, allowing giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit…"
Maybe that… was a bad idea
Eh who cares at this point mate. The planet is headed quickly towards global warming and mass extinction. Just throw media companies on top of this burning pile of garbage we made for our homes.
12:36 "Mommy let you use her iPad; you were barely two And it did all the things we designed it to do... It was always the plan to put the world in your hand" so crazy looking back on this interview after Inside...
I was just about to write that!
bo burnham has always been wise beyond his years
But he doesn't know what happened in Iran today, so ...
He's a idiot. People that use instruments in their acts are desperate untalented morons.
Honda Hatch no correlation...
Someone’s a failed comedian or a failed musician
Certainly. Why else would he ask other 8th graders in 2001 if they support Dukakis, who ran in 1988 before Bo was even born?
I just wish that there was an identical copy of Bo Burnham who worked in the field of neuroscience/psychology/sociology/social science. his impeccable & sharp observation of today's era would be so beneficial if it could be translated into scientific findings and academic research.
Believe it or not, that person probably exists. There's probably a guy working at a Wendy's who has made all the same observations and holds all the same opinions Bo has. It's really nothing wild.
Could I interest you in everything all of the time?
A little bit of everything all of the time?
Apathy's a tragedy
And boredom is a crime
Anything and everything all of the time.
Would you like to see some pictures of some famous women's feet?
I babysat a 4 year old child who watched other people play with toys on youtube - his mom even bought him the same toys that they were playing with, and he would rather WATCH the people on the video play with them, rather than play with the SAME TOYS himself.
It has to do with the lighting from a screen. Turn the blue light filter on, and use the toys with them. He will stop wanting to watch so much.
This is every 3 -7-year-old I know, including my own six-year-old, to a lesser extent because I just don’t allow it.
yyo wtf???
really you should convince him to play with the toys
I remember going to kids houses who had better toys than me growing up and them wanting me to watch them play with them while I sat there like what the fuck am I doing here. The fact this is the default now is insane.
Sounds like a made up story
This is spot on. 2018 middle schoolers/high schoolers are different from 2010/2012 kids. To be honest...the entire world has changed so much in how we view things and everything. Time moves to quick and tech has also gone so far so quick. Weird times
I was in High School from 2008-2012. And the slang, culture and tech is beyond different.
Time moves too* quick
Same here 2012.. those were the days
@@ChunKeyPeach what are people like back then (I'm class of 2025)
@@thisisyes3973 (2017) what's wild is the fact that you don't remember many older people, the people that left legacies, and it makes me wonder if that's due to subconscious self-absorption because we all wanna feel special on this overcrowded asteroid. Or have you been down on yourself for years so you've always been playing catch up? Those things are essentially synonomous though. I'm halfway in the self-absorbed boat with 60%of the pop. so no worries 😂
Bo should have his own podcast
wow, true, he should.
I would listen to it all the time
There's a reason tech giants unplug their children.
Really like who?
Steve jobs and bill gates both did not let their children use technology until 16 years old. They said because of health dangers. Generally the richer you get from technology the more you shield your children from tech
That’s horrifying
Max Ehrmann Verbally abused? For not using social media? Is that a joke?
Max Ehrmann Damn dude, stay away from those people. They’re obviously just projecting their own insecurities on to you to make themselves feel better. Most of the people who have the biggest followings on social media are just trying to seek validation from strangers because they are severely insecure.
Deleting my social media has been one of my better decisions in life lol shits weird
I've loved Bo since I was in high school, and I just found Jay the other day with his set on the Degenerates. That's crazy to me, I feel like I've been sleeping on Big Jay man, but this was awesome. Great conversation
Hell yeah man, listen to legion of skanks to hear the best Big Jay
"Full bush"
@@VashStampedeDX
welcome to the legion of skanks
oh and crackle crackle
First real interview I've heard with Bo besides the green room stuff with Paul Provenza, if that can be considered an "interview", and man he came off as a really smart considerate guy. Became an instant fan.
It's because he's with the real people ... big jay and dan are the best. I just saw this and I love it. They are the same people today as they were at this interview. ❤❤❤
Bo is such a brilliant mind.
i like how Bo Burnham also differentiates birth year from 9/11 and making it a big deal like i do😂
Watching this has convinced me more than nearly anything else that I don't want kids anymore.
Saaaaame
even if that's a perfectly fine decision, as a father of two (one of them a teen girl) I can also say that there's also a way of having smart, self-assured kids. It just takes time and dedication... and luck, of course.
I could listen to this for another 3 hours. Amazing conversation
It makes me so stressed how much they interrupt each other
watching this on my phone after my senior year of highschool being the corona year
I've been listening to the bonfire since the beginning and this is honestly one of their best interviews. Not only is it relatable but the Insight is intriguing.
That was over way too quick.
I love you guys! I love Jay, and Dan, and Bo,...so to have them all together was a treat for me. Thank you. It was deep,...and satisfying!!😜
ive been stomaching ppl going crazy over 'young kids' bullshit 4 so long
until bo mentioned toddlers telling their parents 2 relay a message 2 an invisible audience
thats the absolute 1st thing ive heard that is a true danger
that would make my fucking heart drop if my kid said that
It's refreshing for this to get as deep as it did... Nice.
watching this on a smartphone
Heretic! Burn! (or the smartphone might just catch on fire)
My phone was on the ground charging and I was doing laundry and this started playing out of nowhere. Scary
I can see Bo's soul leaving his body every time the guy next to him starts to talk
@Dreaming he literally prefaced it with, "And I will say," meaning it was in contrast with what came before. The fact he's a class act doesn't mean anything.
No judgement here but I’m just gonna go ahead and say that Burnham is the smartest one in this room.
100% and I definitely don’t think he agrees with schools needing bullies like the other guys are saying. He’s just bringing up an interesting observation.
absolutely
Definitely not the funniest
Thats like being the cool kid at the slow table.
On the other hand, it's QUITE obvious who is not the smartest one in the room
I've love this ! the bonfire crew is a daily necessity for me.
I swear i would love it if bo came to my school and talked to me like everything said here is so goddamn true and im 14 and im just shook.
at 16 minutes where it says you have to look back at something is so sadley true and it gets to a point you cant post anything "origional" or else you ger ridecules
I'm 28 and I did eighth grade twice, because I was a fucking loser and didn't give a shit about anything. I'm so glad I got to start over. Because when I did eighth grade the second time, none of the kids knew me. It scares me that kids don't get second chances anymore because everything's forever out there...
Just be you and if someone ridiculed you, know that it’s because they’re participating in this depersonalized reality. Don’t take it personally. Easier said than done, but something to strive for.
I feel the same
Im 14 rn. Can you give me wisdom of what youve learned in the 2 years since this comment?
No better guest than Bo
They’ve got great mics
Fascinating talk.
this video has me sweating, it's terrifying the grip the internet has on all of us (I say as I write a comment on the internet)
Foran
Comedy Central, more of this.
Props to the camera crew!
My sister at three years old logged into our family computer opened Google chrome went to Amazon and was a few clicks away from buying car parts... technology is going to consume us all
The amount of times Bo says "like" is staggering.
Pretty healthy amount
la does that to people
I was so entranced by what he was saying I didn't even notice it
His brain was moving faster than he could speak
Ironically, that's very millennial way of speaking. The only time I feel like hitting my gf if when she can't get through a single sentence without saying "like" every other word.
Dan's shirt is friggin awesome
12:40 The decisions about kids. neurochemistry are NOT being made by programmers anymore. It's even more troubling. AI develops algorithms, and they are millions of lines long sometimes. They do it in an iterative process of selection, like artificial evolution with the goal of producing an algorithm that maximizes your number of clicks, or number of minutes on a website, or whatever goal is set by the company owning or using the AI. The AI is relentlessly, almost ruthlessly, using their neurochemistry to keep kids (and non-kids) engaged, and no programmer fully understands what they're doing anymore, only whether they are successful or not at keeping the engagement going. It's a Brave New World out there.
I didn’t know he did the movie 8th grade. That movie literally took me back. It made me really think.
I don't know who the dude in the hat at the very beginning is but I'll be god damned if he's not a dead ringer for John Popper from Blues Traveler.
Thats exactly who it is if im not mistaken. He plays his harmonica during the show lol
Yeah that's him bo's their second guest
I wish I had this in the late 90's. 🤔📱
Amazing interview to look back on now in 2024
15:54 the backlash to the backlash to the things that just begun.

@@JulietRoseCapulet777 no problem ❤
stargirl 1694 Well thank you, how random and kind. I hope your day treats you the wonderful way that you deserve.
Bo B. Is so smart
You can see the exact moment they realize Bo isn't talking about the internet being dangerous for kids because they might run into explicit material or talk to creeps, but because it's fundamentally altering the way kids minds work during their most formative years. It will be a miracle if most of them don't grow up to have various psychological disorders.
Oh Bo!
When you realize how important The Bonfire is to you, you cry like a bitch when Bo confesses Big Jay's support. It just hit me like a brick and I fell apart.
"Im murdering". "Waking up with back pain lately" 🤔😂😂😂😂
I miss you bo
great video!
you guys are stressing me out
8:59 We got ourselves a lobster here! ;) anybody ?
The postmodern neo-Marxist sock puppets are coming for your iPhones!
Only 90's kids will get this. This time seriously.
I don't get it
@@MCJOHNSON95 Well Bo is born in 1990 and already seems like an old grumpy man compared to the succeeding generation. I'm in my early 20's and I feel the same.
facts richard... feel the same way
Hahahaha...i was born in 85... only advice worth giving at this moment.. dont have to listen to the old guy, but hear what he has to tell...
There are newspaper articles, when the first telephones came out, about being over connected and it’s implications.
Watching this in 2024 as I'm 24....but I was a senior in highschool in 2018 😂😂😂 Bo is so right😂😂
If Dan had shut up for 90% of this, not only would it have been better, but nothing important would have been lost.
He literally interrupts answers with a different question so no Bo didn’t get to give a full answer of anything.
Never heard of these guys but it was frustrating to watch.
@@treesin2199 I really like Big Jay, but Dan Soder is very frustrating, yes.

Bo did not want to talk about the movie

That toy review shit is on point my nephewdressed up as a Ryan's toy review for halloween , .....
I graduated from High School in 2012. YOLO was big. "I'm Sexy and I Know It" was playing on the radio. Social Media and Smart Phones were still kind of new. Tim Tebow was a thing with the Broncos. I am currently a college student after spending time in the military. I can confirm I don't understand the stuff 18 year olds say. We have different slang ffs. They say shit like banger, which I fucking hate with a passion. It sounds like you are trying to be pretentious. "Damn this is a banger. This shit is lit". As a high school goer of 2008-2012. I played my games on an Xbox 360. Fallout 3 came out my freshman year. Skyrim was released my senior year. Let this sink in. Culture, Politics, even Language and media has changed in 6 years. I remember when everyone had to switch over to HD TVs cause standard was disappearing. My freshman year of High School was a decade ago. I'm only 24 but I feel like I've been pushed aside.
7:09 part of the terrarium? Umm
Lol what did bo expect them to chat about, not his just previously finished movie? 🤣
they technically didnt talk about it. they went over the themes and their own life experiences but not ''your movie is so this this this''
BOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!! I missed you man!
Bo Burnham is da man!
Great stuff Bo should be come in more often pay that man
What episode is this?
I did the same thing with my block of Motorola phone
I graduated in 2016 and I don't even get these kids, shits gunna get weird real quick
I was in 8th grade when 9-11 happened.
bo was 11
I really want to know who Bo reads about internet & media culture. He's like the internet era's Neil Postman, but there have got to be some influences giving him ideas and inspiring his public articulation. The discourse needs him but it'd be nice to see the unfiltered analysis before he distills and synthesizes it for a popular audience. because those voices need to be heard in places of influence.
Bo burnham reads douglas rushkoff an American media theorist, writer, columnist, lecturer, graphic novelist, and documentarian. He and Bo even have a conversation together in youtube.
It's like Bo like Burnham!
Well before there were phone booths. You actually are EFFEd in an emergency w/o a phone now
Except now every trusting person is basically a walking phone booth.
@@MAX-de8fe that’s true. You hope there is one of those around too:)
I got expelled in 8th grade but that school was crazy
When he was 17 he dressed up like Aladdin and he was on the Bonfire. He IS problematic
Oh shit it's Karl Smallwood on comedy Central! Very nice
As a 48 yr old I'm still struggling with the number of times all the younger generation punctuate with 'like'. We used to say um. Now it's like. But somehow that's harder to follow when my kids are talking fast (talking fast is another younger generation thing). Also, texting with finger nails is hard. Do kids routinely bite their fingernails or something? It took me ten minutes to write this.
We just gonna ignore the legendary John Popper sitting there?
“You’re fat!”
I didn’t know this dude was so cool
I hope those kids never learn to read and if they already read I hope they forget
I refuse to go smartphone and be a mindless drone.
what are you watching this on?
@@nezukochaaaaaaan9810 Computers still exist.
The filming your kids shot is so weird. But that one kid made 24 million.
SHOW THIS IN SCHOOLS
There was an interview Bo did where he said every time he’s with a room of male comedians he feels like he’s having a feminine experience and like he’s being ignored while others are being toxically masculine. This feels like an example of that.
As a "sensitive" male i agree. The bro culture of comedy is awful. You really spot the jocks from the artisans.
