A long, long time ago, I made a call to one of my regular customers who could not get her system to work at all. She'd been in the attic putting up Christmas boxes and flipped the furnace switch off thinking it was the attic light. I went over, flipped the switch and voila, problem solved. I told her I was not going to charge her but she insisted so I said, "eh, just pay me $20." She would have paid me the usual $80 service call fee but I just could not do it! It helps when the person is very nice and a regular customer. Those are lifelong customers.
Great to here but I'm sure that you will write off the lose on your taxes which you can.
Oil the fan, regularly... and clean that condenser, regularly...
NICE I LOVE EASY CALLS THEY ALWAYS COME AT THE RIGHT TIME.
I just remember 2 years ago some guy called about his a/c, and he turned the breaker off he just wants to see if im honest a/c guy i charge for the trip 85 bucks
We all have those ones it's a dilemma for me usually charge a small fraction of the service....
😂 It's nice to get an easy one now and again ❤
Nice 👍🏼 job as always 😮
One guy called me Saturday around 11:58 pm ( i was sleeping 😴) mad because his thermostat wasn't working, and he replaced the batteries . I went on Sunday morning. i put some new batteries, and the a/c works 😂 and he refused to pay for the trip already blocked his phone number
Outside of taking him to court, you may be able to call the police and have him charged with theft of services.
Go @ night and loosen the shredded valves. He’ll call you in the morning. But it has to be cash up front or nothing
Am not for to loose my time and money
Always run a credit card before going or u will get scammed at some point like this
Well if you are in this business long enough , it happens. Hopefully it balances out in the long run! If you are only in for the money, maybe you should run for office!!!
It was easy, but you did pull it apart and checked everything, including the fan motor. So it's not like you didn't do anything. Good call
This. That was a good checkup; the service fee paid for peace of mind.
Curtis strikes me as likable and honest.
Great channel! Nice job my guy. 🙂👍
Hvac guy*
You were extremely thorough checking it over. No Guilt!!
And I thought i knew everything lol at me! hahah
Nice work Curtis.
I had a call on a unit we had just installed a month before saying they were getting no heat. I went in to check it and found the door on the furnace was not closed. Closed it up and heat came on. They swear they didn't mess with the door.
Feel Guilty as your Flooring it Away from the Customers Location. 😬👍🙏 The Customer is Always supposed to Pay a Contractor for their Knowledge. 😬👍🙏
Well I’m a mechanic neighbor had a/c man working he goes to leave van wouldn’t start so I go over he’s on phone with his boss I asked if they wanted me check it out yes sure poor fella just didn’t have it fully in park he said oh man thanks I said oh thanks nothing that’s $250 what yep but nothing was wrong I said yep remember that next time you charge somebody for nothing
what a nice guy you are
@@davidca96
I wasn’t nice I charged them $250 because there rip off company I can understand charging for service call but when nothing is wrong and you charge them more c-mon
@@rickbarnett9729 was just messing with you brother, jokes with text tend to get misinterpreted I always forget. Was laughing at how great you were in that situation.
@@davidca96
No I was just replying that I did charge them I didn’t let them off the hook they didn’t like it one bit but I did give the neighbor she’s elderly lady $200 to help with her ac bill
Nice honest easy work! 👌🏾
Would love to see a van tour
Well done Curtis, i quess this man will check the CB next time if it stops, and you done what you could whils't there 👍 Au
you might want to "build" network of "trusted" HVAC professionals across the US. You might come up with some kind of certification for them and so on. I would love to call someone by your recommendation. It is always crazy difficult to find proper company to service units.
Hey the other day you was working on a fairly new goodman hp apartment 207 or 307 blowing low voltage fuse you never actually pin pointed short but after moving the press switch wires or something problem went away. I had same problem on same type goodman never found anything infact one time went for a month came back still never found a rubbed wire or nothing have gone 3 times this time I've isolated wires see what happens .76 amp on 3amp fuse. It did blow only when red 24 v wire was connected for now its working.
The red wire outside on the heat pump runs the defrost board. Hope that helps isolate the problem.
@@hvac4u2 yes it also for defrost its been 4 days nothing yet
👍👍👍
Hey Kurt, love your videos. Your time is worth money. No matter how easy the repair
May
Aaron I just noticed you have a sponsor on your channel called call Otto Otto for automobile insurance is there any truth to it
I never feel bad for those types of jobs. It's not easy money if you have to use time and resources to get to them.
Also this is happening maybe .03% of the time 😂
poz
Just asking out of curiosity. wouldent it somtimes be better for these units to have some sort of roof / shed around them.
I mean they are probably build for the Outside but a little build out off 2x4 or probaly wouldent hurt.
No, it needs to be well ventilated or it will not work properly. Maybe If you built a large shed with some really big / high flow fans and vents
@@CraZyNOTRTthanks for the insight.
Was just a random thought crossing my mind.
But a small roof lets say 50 feet above just for raincover ?
I don't think it would need to be that tall, probably only like 20ft. But again, it's not needed. Only sensitive electronics are the main boards, and it's encased inside the unit.
@@CraZyNOTRTOk thanks again.
atleast it would be a little service for Techniens.
Sry for wrong grama i am on the 2cend sixpack in my long Weekend.
But again thanks for the Info and thougts while planning
There is No "easy" money. I've spent time explaining this to everyone from company owners to techs and helpers. JUST! getting in the truck to drive to a call is major work especially if it's a marked truck. You got idiots on the road who want to cause a wreck with you for easy commercial insurance money payouts and other idiots who put your vehicle in danger due to their driving period. On top of that the truck is likely to be targeted because if it's marked most thrives know it's intent and what it potentially carries of value.
I used to feel bad about these types of call. I don't anymore because they obviously couldn't figure out why it wasn't working and if they hadn't called a service man they wouldn't have an operating piece of equipment.
What was wrong with it . I didnt catch the problem in the video
The condensor fan motor still has a little life in it
Breaker was turned off…not tripped
@@HVACGUY50 percent off of service call
The condensor fan motor was running right around peak amps. It will probably die soon, hopefully in the shoulder season.
ypu don't call them
You may have not turned it off, but someone did my friend. He should just be glad that things still kicking and has a good charge, its on borrowed time at that age.
I had a ac unit it had issues every summer for 10 years decided to replace it with a unit 5 times the size of the old one had nothing but issues. I'm thinking just go with window units for $800 I can do 1 for each room of the house
@@MultiTurbospeed Was that the right size for your house? Probably way too big. It will turn on and off too quickly, putting excess wear and tear on your unit. And, the A/C won't run long enough to dehumidify the house. You need to consider not only the square footage, but the ceiling height, how many people will occupy full time, whether the house is shaded or in full sunlight, the general climate, how much insulation there is, etc.
Two hour min plus a truck trip charge = $310.00
yeah if u enjoy ripping people off.
