Historic metal. Watch "1916". Trust me. Make it a priority.
I concur
I def concur. Especially since you are familiar with Lemmy
I agree
I agree!
I concur
Christmas Truce. The cinematic video, not live.
Definitely do this one. It's Amazing! And Floor sings during the end credits.
"This like a movie..."
Me: "Welcome aboard the Sabaton train."
Sabaton made a Beautiful tribute to Lemmy K by making a cover of Motörheads 1916 song with a cameo from his old band buddies Mikkey & Phil in the video it's one of the best cover songs ever made in my opinion in Metal genre at least
That’s happening now!!!
Yes, you are correct. About the WW II German battleship Bismarck. And yes I know Johnny Horton. Most of Sabaton songs are about Military History (9 of 10 albums). Though this was a stand alone single in 2019. Video made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game.
Swedish heavy metal/power metal band, formed in 1999. Lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary songwriter, and only original members left. You mentioned Lemmy, Joakim has met and talked to him. Chris Rorland on guitar, joined 2012. Drummer Hannes van Dahl (Floor's hubby) joined in 2014. The other guitarist seen here is Tommy Johansson, he joined in 2016, but just recently announced he is leaving. The man Tommy replaced, Thobbe Englund, will be returning. A sabaton is the foot piece in a medieval suit of armor. The band also has their own history channel, an episode for every song, detailing the story behind the music.
Sabaton , last year, covered the Motorhead song "1916", you'll want to watch that music video. "Christmas Truce" MV is highly recommended. Also any of the animated story videos: "Night Witches", "No Bullets Fly", "Lady of the Dark", "The Red Baron", and " The First Soldier".
For Christmas Truce, go for the official music video, not the animated one.
Soldier of Heaven
in short... all of them ;)
Floor Jansen of Nightwish is married to their drummer.
No bullets fly. Animated story vers.
1916
Scrreaming eagles
Christmas truce
Stormtroopers
All great songs.
They allso have a "Sabaton history" chanel where you can watch the history to all their songs. Enjoy.
One of my favorite videos from Sabaton is Uprising (Official Live) on Nuclear Blast's channel. It is a little older and does not have Hannes in the lineup. But, there is nothing quite like half a million Pols singing along about how their families fought the Nazis.
I also love Night Witches (the animated story video, the seven minutes one). It is a very different video than this one but shows the breadth of how great Sabaton is at videos.
Welcome to the coolest history teachers in the Western Hemisphere.
Oh dear. On this evidence you are so going to enjoy Sabaton and their now ex guitarist Tommy's own channel for that matter!
You must listen to more sabaton.. and the guitarist with the solo is magic, Tommy Johansson. He is leaving sabaton soon to concentrate on his own band Majestica...and he also have his own you tubechannel where he drops a new cover every friday and puts his own powermetal-magic on it...everything from gary moore (the artist who inspired him to start playing guitar) to bohemian rhapsody and Ave Maria. A must to listen to and you will NOT regret it!!❤❤
Great reaction! My favorite Sabaton songs include Defense of Moscow, Soldier of Heaven and STORMTROOPERS! Best wishes from Namibia.
Welcome aboard (as it were, lol)! As noted below, Sabaton are our most awesome history teachers. Pausing to react is okay - you're a reactor, after all! We come here to see your impressions of stuff. This is decidedly a worthy rabbit-hole to fall into. As worthy as Nightwish! Hello from a Night Witch (female Sabaton fan - also Night Witches is one Hell (ha) of a banger) in the middle of Canada.
Also, I didn't see anybody mention it below, sorry if I missed it; the skipper of the boat Sabaton plays on is the SON of the young survivor hauled out of the drink toward the end of the video. Their respect for combatants and historical accuracy is the stuff of legends.
About Lemmy...... check out Sabatons version of Lemmy´s and Motörheads "1916"
Pick and choose. I think you will like most of their songs. Love from Sweden!
When the Bismarck emerges from the fog….THAT was badass.
Sabaton is the greatest band out there. They do their homework and all their songs are hisrorical.
Not only for Nightwish also for Sabaton it’s important to have the lyrics on‼️ Sabaton teaches you history - all songs have a true history. Next songs: Christmas Truce, 1916 & live: En Livstid I Krig (Gothenburg - caption on, it’s sung in Swedish), Uprising, …
The drummer Hannes van Dahl is married to Floor. 🏆👍
"He just went Lemmy on me!" ... Ha! Then you definitely want to listen to (and have a look at) Sabaton's cover of "1916"!
Johnny Horton's song was titled "Sink the Bismarck". It got a lot of radio play where I grew up back in the 1960s -- and I heard it back then. Still listen to it occasionally.
Like you, I was thrilled to find Sabaton's telling of the story.
Listening to Sabaton has lead to conversations at family reunions between metal heads and great uncles with shelves of WWII books. I'm both, so I just talk to myself... off in a corner... with pie. (-; ••• Meander! RING!!!
You're Very right about this guitar solo. Its all about feeling and it's beautiful. The guitarist is Tommy Johansson, the fenomenal guitarist, multiinstrumentalista, composer and singer. Tommy has his own band Majestica and his CZcams channel. Check it out, you won't be sorry.
As far as Motorhead react to "1916" . It's a must.
My suggestion for other songs....is hard to pick, that's a huge rabbit hole you're getting yourself into😅.
For starters, " Christmas Truce", official music video, "In Livstid I Krig" live from Götteborg, "40:1" live from Woodstock Poland, "The Last Stand" official music video and " Night Witches" Great Tour 2020.
After that you'll want more, trust me😂
Sabaton is fantastic band. They sing history and even have their Sabaton History Channel where you'll hear the real stories behind every song.
Great reaction 🤘 Greetings from Warsaw 🎶🇵🇱
Welcome to the Metal History Masters. I only have one thing to add to the others comments - ALWAYS prefer ANIMATED STORY VIDEOS where there is one.
By the Way - The drummer Hannes Van Dahl is Floor's husband. And the "beautiful" guitar solo was performed by the one and only Tommy Johansson. Tommy has unfortunately chosen to leave Sabaton after 7 years to pursue his own band Majestica, and solo career. He releases cover videos every Friday - A must to check out.
Tips to check out:
Sabaton - 1916
Majestica - Above The Sky
Sabaton - The Last Stand
Sabaton - No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video)
Sabaton - Christmas Truce
I used to hear Johnny Horton’s “Sink The Bismarck” and “The Battle Of New Orleans” all the time because of my mom and I still think it they are some of the coolest ‘war themes’ out there.
I would recommend The Last Stand and Christmas Truce before diving into their animated story videos (No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, Lady of the Dark...)
Oh, and add The First Soldier to the roster of animated story videos, too. (Milunka definitely worked with French troops, France offered her a military pension to retire there to say nothing of la Croix de Guerre ... wonder if Albert heard of her or met her?)
can't believe u didn't know this band as a fellow metalhead. i should've recommended this band a long time ago. all of their songs are amazing
This is exactly the very first song and video of Sabaton for myself to ever see and listen to. That was in 2019, and I have bought every albumn of theirs.
"Uprising" live from Woodstock in Poland next?
Great reaction! I love your emotions and comments, thanks!
1916, Uprising, Christmas Truce, 40:1, Fields of Verdun, Metal Machine .... and many more of Sabaton :-)
That was Sink the Bismarck from 1960. It’s about the same ship but completely different.🤘🎸
In May of 1941, the war had just begun.
The German’s had the biggest ship, they had the biggest guns.
The Bismarck was the fastest ship that ever sailed the sea.
On her deck were guns as big as steers and shells as big as trees~
… Yes. I’d hazard a guess that most of us know the song.
Hahaha, i told you..🤟🇸🇪
The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W
The guys froze making this video - Joakim was probably thumping his leg to make sure it was still there! See Sabaton "Night Witches" animated, "Bullets Don't Fly" animated...... military history lessons in awesome format! Bismarck was sunk by his own crew to avoid capture. Prinz Eugen, a heavy cruiser, was with Bismarck and escaped the British. This was before the USA became involved in WW2. After the war, and after months of neglect, the re-named USS Prinz Eugen was nuked TWICE before finally, many more months later, sinking. The Germans built tough ships! Lemmy vibes? - See Sabaton's "1916"!!!!!!
Bismarck was a goner and was not going to be captured, if indeed it was scuttled at all (open to debate). Bismarck didnt escape as it running on reduced power and leaking fuel oil due to a hit after the duel with Hood and PoW, was intercepted by the Swordfish and took a torpedo in the rudder area which caused it to be stuck in a wide turn. This enabled the British to close and destroy the ship.
A nice easter egg you see is the name being painted on the boat, PRIMO VICTORIA.
1916, Cristmas truce, Race to the sea, The last stand,40 to 1,Uprising and so on and on bro. Just do them all💪😁
Same ship... the Bismark. And that Horton song was "Sink The Bismark"...
One of our neighbors who died years ago was a survivor of the Bismarck he was pretty miserable the rest of his days. Poor soul.😢
Wow. Johny Horton. I listened to him as a kid. My Dad was big into him as well. I'm now 55 and haven't even thought of Johny Horton until you mentioned him. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I missed this one when it first dropped. Big props on the Johnny Horton shout out. I'm probably old enough to be your dad and My dad was a Johnny Horton fan. You know Johnny's "Bismarck" is only a 3min song; .you really should play it for all these folks who have no idea what you are talking about. For Sabaton you should check out --SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) and be sure to have the subtitles turned on.
I wish I could but whoever own the rights to the song has a hard copy-write claim on it
fun fact the cordinats on the pocket watch is he wreck of Bismarck is located on the south face of a massive extinct underwater volcano in the Abyssal Porcupine Plain of the eastern Atlantic Ocean. It is in the "vicinity" of 4809N 01607W. The main hull is located approximately half way down the volcano at a depth of roughly 15,715 ft / 4,790m.
also wargaming has helped them whit the shis
Great reaction and welcome to the family!😃🤘 I'll just say that follow the suggestions in the comment section.
Greetings from Sweden!🤘🇸🇪
how about Tommy Johansson - until now lead from Sabaton...solo....or Sabaton with 1916 from Lemmy. by the way Drummer of sabaton is husband of Floor.
I'm a Johnny Horton fan from way back. Sink the Bismark is my favorite by him.
Oh ... You're going back in ?!!! You got a new subscriber!
I suggest '1916' as others have mentioned, a fantastic version of the Motorhead song. 'No Bullets Fly' the animated video, an incredible story that just keeps on delivering when you think it's done. 'Christmas Truce' the full video (not the animated one in this case). 'En Livstid i Krig' Live Great Tour performance in Gothenburg. 'Final Solution' lyric video, pair it with the Sabaton History episode for the song. As mentioned elsewhere, that history channel is great, with episodes looking at the stories behind many of their songs.
1:40 - I knew the Blues Brothers Cover before the Johnny Horton Version. Thanks for the great tip
They covered Lemmy's "1916" in their own unique way, check it out. My favorit song by them is "The Last Stand".
Dreadnought is insane
Love Sabaton Red Baron, but all on their songs are great
Looking forward to more Sabaton! No Bullets Fly,The Red Baron, Christmas Truce, Lady of the dark are among the many you should check out. Welcome to history class..Sabaton style!
Floor's husband is the drummer for Sabaton. They are great!!
1916 next ! Written by Lemmy and an emotional song too .
Just about all of Sabaton's music cover war in some way or another, from Sun Tzu and Sparta up to current. All of them are great and they do a lot of research on all their songs. Some of them are not even really covered. The 2 best examples I can think of are "No Bullets Fly" and "Lady of the Dark"
Nice reaction! Try Ghost Division (especially Woodstock 2012). To Hell and Back, from Audie Murphy's poem The Crosses Grow at Anzio. Dreadnaught. Race to the Sea. Soldier of Heaven. If you are brave, "The Final Solution."
Sabaton's tribute to Motorhead, covering 1916
I love Jonny Horton
I had his greatest hits album and listened to it over and over
Sabaton are a metal band that has its own genre called History metal they are band from Sweden all their songs are about real historical events They never take sides and they have been going since 1999 they have ten albums they also have their own history channel called Sabaton History were they go into the history of the songs . The current drummer of the band is marred to Floor from nightwish
You know how heavy is Sabaton's metal?
How heavy was the BISMARCK?
How about the weight of an entire Jutland's worth of DREADNOUGHTS?
Or the weight of all the shells fired in the FIELDS OF VERDUN? what about those fired entirely during the GREAT WAR?
Or maybe the weight of all the tanks in a PANZER BATALLION? Or in Erwin Rommel's GHOST DIVISION?
Speaking of tanks... Can you imagine the weight of the millions of men and vehicles that clashed in the DEFENSE OF MOSCOW?
Yeah... THAT heavy.
You know what to do with the words in capitals 😉
Everyone will tell you, but Sabaton makes music based on real life History, so if there is a song, however unprobable it sounds, there is some kind of historical documentation of that event or person.
To Hell & Back is about the most decorated soldier American history. Audy Murphy, who went on to be a famous western movie star .
Very good reaction and welcome to the world of military history taught by metal music 😊
Sabaton is a Swedish that makes music about war and soldiers from all over the world, without taking sides. They celebrate the bravery and sacrifices of any soldiers, having the phrase ‘lest we forget.’
If you want to dig deeper, here's a small list of songs to react to, if you want. There're many others and I'm sure others will suggest them.

One note: Please ALWAYS play their videos to the end. There's usually some dedication or other information at the end.
Don't listen to Sabaton very much but love the chorus of this song.
Sabaton Christmas Truce with Floor Jansen is cool.
For a 56 years old with still long hair is that normal Music , ok , my start as a Metalhead was 1980 with 13 years
The video was done with/by Wargaming and World of Warships; that explains the CGI ships. Great song! I've always said Tommy made his guitar sound sad for the solo in this one.
This video was made by the team who made the games World of warships and world of tanks....check out Steel commanders which features Tina Gou
Do 1916, one of the best cover ever made. Real honor to Lemmy.
You have to react to Tommy!!!
Floor's husband is the drummer for Sabaton.
Actually, I am very familiar with Johnny Horton, not only his song "Sink the Bismark" but also "Battle of New Orleans," "North to Alaska," and "Johhny Reb." If you are a Lemmy fan, you need to watch "1916" the Sabaton tribute video to him.
BTW, internet rumor says the swinging legs seen for a split second as the band ascends the stairs in the intro belong to one Floor Jansen.
Hi Alan, did you also notice that in Lady of the Dark there are two very familiar characters.. I'm convinced Yarn Hub used Păr and Floor as avatars for the soldier and Milunka. Greetz from the Netherlands. 🤘🇳🇱🤘
Nice reaction.
I think every metal fan knows who Lemmy was. Sabaton do sound like old school rock that's for sure🇬🇧
Check out 1916 😉 by you know who…. And check out Tommy Johansson also, the guitarist of Sabaton he has his own youtube channel where he does crazy covers.
Coming out friday
I love everything about it but that guitar solo is next level
as a side note here, the name they gave the boat at 2:38 is taken from an older song by the band, from the older setup of the band.
If you want an awesome live song with Sabaton you should react to en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg.
The album Carolus Rex they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from a time when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding.
The album was released with both an Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldier's view while the English is more from an outside observer's
It is the Swedish version they played that night so be sure you have the subtitles on, I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.
I’m 50. Yes, I’ve heard Johnny Horton.
ofc its about the Ship, noone is gonna sing about the Guy the Name is from^^
*edit* as it is Power Metal, wich comes from Halloween (fe.), it is 80's. Just in case you don't know Halloween, might wanna check em out aswell xD

I know that Johnny Horton song. My mom had a Johnny Horton 8 track that it was on, lol! Sabaton is great! They actually have a Sabaton History Channel on youtube with more info about each song's history.
primo victoria is another great song ... also they also have a history channel sabaton history

Welcome to the rabbit hole of Sabat...
Just enter the foxhole and grab a gun. :D You will be entertained!
To clarify, this is not pirate metal, Alestorm is pirate metal.
Lol if you want pirate metal, you listen to Alestorm.
4:10 Nah, that'd be Alestorm
"They came to sink the Bismark, they came to put her down"..
Him* Bismarck was always referred as "he", because of how powerful of a ship it was.
@@Kuutti_original , The Song Sink the Bismark by Jonny Horton incorrectly referred the Bismark as a she, and those were the lines from the song.
Only the Captian did that, most other people called it a her.@Kuutti_original
