it was time to finally unite my dog with my family in Los Angeles. But bringing him over was not an easy task because I refused to put him in cargo on a plane. This is my wild 10 day adventure with my dog Smudo.

@@rick2bees sorry! I never read the comments before watching. So it didnât occur to me to hashtag that.
@@thefrenchguard6999 sorry.

Laura FFS!! You had me bawling and hugging my dog through the roadtrip - and then you drop a bomb like that?!?! đ€Żâ€
Smudo is the best dog ever and having a wife that buys you a dog airline ticket shows how much she gets you. Congrats on the new baby! Your friends are the best too but you keeping the tumbleweed made me smile so hard....this is why I watch your videos.
Hot sand and especially hot sidewalks/roadways may require Smudo to have foot protection.
A flight with a handful of dogs sounds like heaven.
...and propably smells like hell đ
Smudo has now seen more of American than most of us Americans. Awesome trip!
He must be thinking that he never realized how big the world is.
I don't know if dogs feel amazement, but if they do, he is.
That is not America. That is a portion of North America
@@lucascostabarbosa1298 Thank You Captain Obvious.
@@lucascostabarbosa1298 Didn't say she saw all of it. Just more than most of us.
Get in a car and start driving.
"Finally the family is complete.. Well, almost" AAAAHHH LAURA KAMPF
Not me crying at the dog friendly airline partâŠand then for the rest of the video. †too sweet!
We need to know the name of the airline- Bark Air?
I found a web page for K9 Jets, that's probably the one.

OMG crying! And sooo happy to see the family is going to get bigger! Congratulations Laura and spouse. Kisses for Smudo, such a good boyâ€
Laura, thank you so much for letting us in this big life transition you've embarked on! (I cried the whole video!)
Finally Smudo can meet Scraps again! â€
I was gonna say how proud I am that you sidestepped the interstate system for part of the roadtrip. Youâve seen a slice of America that few Americans see in one go, if ever. But then there was the final reveal and nothing else seems important except to say Congratulations and welcome to America!
She was on interstates the whole way. It's just not hard to get on a gravel road immediately after leaving the interstate pretty much anywhere west of Indianapolis.
@@FortheBudgies Even that has a romantic ring to it, though. Gonna keep it in mind next time Iâm cutting through Nebraska. Get some dust on the quarter panel.
As an English watcher who knows Brighton, it's clear that Smudge's paws have hardened up well if he's playing on that beach.
I am an old guy who fell in love with your videos after watching just one and before Felix and where you are now. I must say that I donât know how to say it except I totally love and appreciate you for how you and family treat Smudo. I have a dog that was caged for almost 3 years and I made a very similar promise. Love your work, friends, family and your heart. Thank you.
â€. Oh, you and Corinne, Tiny, Teeny-tiny and Smudo. What a love-filled home and a new adventure for you all.
You are not only a magnificent maker, but also an amazing storyteller. A trip with a dog, but with so much love and emotions. All the best Laura, your family, friends and Smudo !
The scene in the airport got me right in the feels! We lost our dogs recently and that bond is something else. Smudo is such a good boy, enjoy him and love him while you can â€
What a wonderful, thoughtful birthday present to both you and Smudo! 4 hrs, 4 countries! 10 days still one country. It gives European's an idea as to how big the USA and Canada is. Lots of "feels" in this one video! Hugs from đšđŠ
I'm not crying. You're crying †Amazing video.
No I'm not, you are.
Iâm crying đ â€
You cracked me up with the tumbleweed. Our town in Arizona had a huge windy time and the town was buried in tumbleweeds. Folks were calling the fire dept to clear the doors so they could get out of their houses. It was so freaky, and it took months to clean it all up
they're so invasive! CGP Grey has a great video about how terrible they are.
@@crowfoot1199 czcams.com/video/hsWr_JWTZss/video.html
I have a picture of a giant pile of tumbleweeds hiding my F250 pick-up. I was driving a fence line road covered in tumbleweed and they just built up a gigantic tumbleweed snowball. I had to eventually back up and go around it because it won that showdown.
@@crowfoot1199oh yeah. They are evil. I wore snake guards just to keep the razor sharp seeds out of my boots.
The storytelling on this one was absolutely incredible đą
đȘđȘđȘMein Freund Smudo...vermisse ihn richtig...jaaaa dich natĂŒrlich auchâ€
Damn Laura!
This had me sobbing like a baby.
Please never stop being you, and sharing your story.
Treasure family time, but donât forget us, or the metric system! đđŒ đ«¶đŒ
So happy to finally have an all-Smudo episode â€
Thank you for taking me with you on your trip â€ïž. It is great that you could keep your promise for Smudođ¶. He is a very lucky dog to have such a dear Laura â€ïžđ. All the best for you and your whole familyâ€ïžđđ
Smudo's now truly a cosmopolitan dog!
Wow, the ending was a surprise, Congratulations! Smudo is a beautiful dog and what a great private jet trip with all the dogs and their sweet humans. I wish you would have gone through New Mexico where I live, that too is breathtaking.
I think everyone in NM has this same feeling haha.
Such a contrast in traveling distances. Cologne to The Chunnel in 4 hrs crossing 4 countries vs 4 days traveling in the same country.
So happy for you. Anyone that gets you a dog friendly airline ticket because they know the journey your dog has gone through is clearly someone who listens to you and values not only your needs but the needs of those you care about too.
Exciting reveal at the end too! Congratulations.
BABY!! â€
A road trip across the US is a rite of passage.... especially in the company of a dog.
Was glad to see that she drove through Colorado. After driving through all. That. CORN!!... She deserved a treat! đ
Laura, you are a brilliant maker AND a brilliant film-maker. I could have watched a feature length version of this. Lovely shots, great emotional arc, and no, I am NOT crying!
I cried several times during this video, huge congratulations :)
now THAT'S a walk!
Valuable lessons are always learned on a road trip across the U.S.: food on the interstates will make you sick; the scenery will make you feel inspired; arriving home to your family will make you happy and whole. Welcome to America, Laura!
There were so many moments I felt so hard.
I didn't knew there's an airline which takes dogs as passengers. And the roadtrip must have been amazing.
Last last part though. đ
It is impossible not to be charmed by LKâs four legged companion here, and the mutual respect they have for each other.
Thank you for sharing your 10 day trip with Smudo. The best part is picking up the tumbleweed and taking it along as your passenger.. I found hilarious!
This is so exciting Laura! What a journey you and Smudo went on. The tea kettle cooking segment and the tumbleweed made me laugh! Thanks for sharing your trip.
We moved from Scotland to Norway with our dog. Driving with friends and family. Dog on ferries, trains and taxis. This video brings so many memories. Thank you for making it and sharing your journey with us. Good luck!
This dog is quite literally living my dream and doesn't even know it
Wow, a dog friendly airline, no box, no tranquilizers, no separation trauma! Well done! All the best for Smudo - and for the new arrival! What a cliff hanger, actually đ
I love seeing my beautiful country through the eyes of non-natives. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey.
What a lucky dog! I've taken my beagle all over Europe in the past 14 years (19 countries) but crossing the USA is on another level.
What an arduous, memory-filling trip! Kudos to you for spending the time to take the backroads (instead of the freeway) and getting to see the heart of America on this journey. Welcome home.
You have some awesome friends, a fabulous dog and an amazing wife who found a dog friendly airline!!!!! Wishing you the very best in LA with your family and with the new baby.
Wishing you, Smudo, and the entire family a wonderful, long life together!!! Glad you are safely where you want to be! â€
Thank you for keeping your promise to Smudo! He's a awesome dog!
That video had no business making me cry this much. Loved it
I'm not crying, you're crying.
That gaspump with the mechanical dail, so cool to see those are still around.
Baby!!! Baby!!! Babies are awesome. Smudo should have his own channel. But there is a baby coming!!! Baby!!!
*Welp, it's Sunday morning, time to watch a Laura Kampf video, surely it won't be emotional and I won't be crying by the end..*
The edit makes it seems like you went out of your way to find interesting and scenic "backroads", because thanks to the modern marvel of the U.S. Interstate Highway System, most cross-country road trips are endless stretches of 4-lane highway.
Why am I not surprised Laura cooked salmon on her engine block. âșïž I'm not crying... you're crying. Beautiful road trip, ty for sharing Laura. â€
I love that you didnât move to LA for career, but for love. Godspeed Laura!
Dogs are such special creatures. I had my last dog, Ralph, for 14 years and 3 months, and every day was a joy. I'm glad you had such a special time with your buddy.
the most wholesome video on the entire internet
Love to see you and Smudo together again, travelling through the USA. And your wife with the baby-in-the-making! Good luck together, thanks for this video.
2:35 this is such a tech support moment. "Let me see what's wrong with the door... It's working perfectly normally?... You're welcome."
I'm so happy for you. Never too late at age 40 to get what you want in life. An epic trip on some back roads! Smudo and you are home! Be careful with new critters that Smudo is not familiar with. ie; SNAKES! You have some great friends. â€â€
Driving across America is the dream of most people, I'm glad you were able to do it at least once! Welcome!!
I've done it a couple of times and it was actually kind of boring because it's mostly empty space. I did snag a really great stray cat that got abandoned in a hotel in the middle of nowhere, so it was worth it for that.
Love is a crazy thingâŠall the stuff you have in Germany and youâre 100% committed to California. But like I said, itâs just âstuffâ. Best of luck.
Europe will miss you
I am so happy to see you taking care of yourself and feeling much better than the last video you posted. You had me in tears when you mentioned that you were just being reunited with the dog. I didnât realize that youâd been apart on an offer a year. And lastly, Iâm thrilled about you and your wife having a baby. Life canât get much better.
I love following this journey of life you're on, thanks for including us
I loved everything about this video. Your cross-country trek brought back memories of my own from 2 years ago (Seattle to Florida). The emotional goodbye at the airport struck me hard as it was how I felt saying goodbye to my BFF Jill after stopping to see her in Colorado. Those memories you made, from beginning to end, will live with you forever â€â€
This was such a beautiful story with an absolutely incredible ending!!!
Many, many congratulations on having your family together. May there always be laughter and love in your home.
You took a tumbleweed? That's hilarious! I wonder what Smudo was thinking? WHERE ARE WE GOING????? What a cool trip!
Never stop being so full of wonder and enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing.
Somebody is cutting onions over here!
After being moved and amazed by the whole video the end made me literally scream. Besides the happiness for you guys, the way of your storytelling was soooooo great that I was sitting with a covered mouth for a minute, after saying with the biggest surprise "Nooooooooooo!". (I meant, Yaaaaay, but somehow a different word came out :D )
Thank you for sharing all these magical moments (and days and years) with us in the most wonderful way I've ever seen.
Laura, when I was a kid, my friendsâ families would go on road trips through the southwest and go to all the ghost towns. They would come home with cow skulls, arrowheads, just the coolest stuff. I was so envious! Iâm so glad you got to experience this.
You are such an amazing storyteller Laura. Please never lose thatâŠ
OMG I was not ready for the dog airline! I cried
Congratssss Laura !!!!!!! Thank you for sharing us something that is so personal. My best wishes for the family !!!!!!â đđđđ
"I'll never put him in a box" [Immediately locks him in the trunk of a car to take a coffee break]đ
This was a fun watch. Having taking a lot of that road trip myself, it brought back memories.
OMG! A new baby! I am so happy and excited for you! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Omgggg this whole video was so precious, I couldnât imagine it being any sweeter but THE END??? đđ„°đ„°đ„°
Holy crap! Crying my eyes out! Love everything about this video especially the end! Congratulations to you and the whole family â€â€â€
Centering the story on your dog is a stroke of genius. Everybody loves Smudo, and I hope we see him more.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the Rockies and the desert! As a Utah native, born and raised, we're pretty proud of the nature around here. đ
How wonderful youâre building a family. That lucky little human. â€
Im crying, its so nice to see that you took your puppy with you
Crazy, I started watching your videos over 10 years ago when I lived in Bonn, DE and now here I am living in Wichita, Kansas watching you drive by my new home. Best of luck in all your new life adventures!
I'm not jealous, you are! †you deserve every microgram (stick to metric!) of happiness until it adds up to tons and tons. Judging from the video you're already there.
It's always good to have friends you can depend on no matter wherever you are in the world â€
Smudo is a well traveled dog. I'm glad your family is all in one place now. Great video.
CONGRATULATIONS ON BABY!!
How many times did I cry during your video? So many... I lost count. Wow. What an epic story that was, with a plot twist at the end. Wishing you the very best on your new life in the USA.
Beautiful trip, beautiful people, beautiful pups, and beautiful family. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I think those pickled onions got into my eyes... Lovely video you gave us, thank you so much. May life be much more generous to you and your beautiful family in your new place! TschĂŒss!
This is great Laura!
Awww! What a beautiful video and the end had me crying! Wishing you and your family all the best!!
OMG Laura, way to drop a bomb!!! đ€Ż Huge congratulations to you and your family, I wish you all the luck and love! â€
I really enjoyed watching the trip, and what a privilege to be able to travel that way and keep your promise to Smudo. I'd love to be able to do something similar one day :D
Ich hab TrĂ€nen in den Augen am Ende des Videos. Ich wĂŒnsche Euch ganz viel Liebe und Achtsamkeit die Magie und die neue Liebe zu genieĂen â€
Congratulations!!! A homecoming and a BABY! What a lovely, lovely video. Much love to you and your family đ
What a great trip! Walking "your" trail one last time hit me so hard! And then your friends taking part in your journey to Brighton. (Sobbed the whole way, ngl.) Thank you for sharing this with me/us. You make my Sunday mornings special! Danke Schoen!
Such a beautiful emotional journey for Laura and an exciting adventure for Smudo. Looks and sounds like you both had a lot of fun on the trip. This was a beautiful closing to the last chapter of your lives together and the beginning of the next one.
