I discovered Abroad in Japan when I was a freshman in college about 6 years ago. You mad me realize that I not only really wanted to go to Japan, but that it was actually possible. I spent my senior year studying abroad in Nagoya, then after I spent two years in Shimane prefecture working for the JET program. Thanks for everything!

I think the reason that question comes up so often is most western foreigners leave within a few years. Most just move there for essentially an extended vacation or due to a company transfer with no intention to stay long, though some think they want to stay long term. Either way, there are so many things that are different that many people can't handle it after a few years despite all of the positives and it's pretty far from the US, Canada, and UK. I think building a good and stable social network and doing something you really enjoy for a living help a lot. While I was there, I met a few who said they were going to live there for the rest of their lives who left within a few years and others who actually were there for many years that I didn't think would leave who eventually did.
Can we just all take a moment to appreciate how GOOD Chris is looking after starting his training (not that he didn't look good before)? Damn son.

I’ve really appreciated all the videos you’ve made on living in Japan, travel, food, sights, etc. They’ve given me so much insight on what to do/expect, and I feel much more prepared and motivated to go to Japan than ever as a result of your hard work. I’m definitely one of the few viewers you have that doesn’t care when you’re leaving Japan. In fact, I hope you stay longer than 3 more years. But do what you need to do for yourself. As long as you’re doing what you love and gaining a sense of accomplishment and worth from it, people will like it and gain something for themselves at the same time. I would still watch your travel videos about anywhere in the world because I appreciate your way of displaying the in-depth uniqueness of the places you go.

I've only been in Japan for a couple months so far and love it. I'm in Hikone for a year studying Japanese and plan to do a bit shorter bike ride around Lake Biwa. I am also quite out of shape and don't expect it to go well, but I don't really care. Long time viewer, would love to meet you on the way by if you end up on this side of the lake to see Hikone Castle (the oldest never been burned/destroyed castle in japan, I think...probably) Anyhow, great videos and best of luck on the cycling trip!

it really does feel like japan is home to you. i can see you being there for a very long time, if not indefinitely - unless something life changing happened. as it is though, you and a number of other fellow tubers you have collaborated with make japan seem so much more accessible.
