Waist trainers can contribute to hemorrhoids and anal prolapse. Then again, there is also a history of using different versions of corsets and waist support for postpartum recovery. Restricting the waist is not universally damaging but it can cause serious harm when it’s done improperly. I think the potential for harm is a bigger concern than just mild misinformation regarding the effectiveness of the garment as a weight loss/body shaping tool.
