The most beautiful tribute who George Michael could make to Freddie. This concert was celebrated in 1992 in memory of Freddie Mercury in which many guest artists performed. It was a fenomenal occasion with wonderful memories to me, great artists, great hearts, great humanity in that stadium, it was something unique like Freddie.

But even Brian May ( is that his name, lead guitarist) said that George was going into a different direction with his music.
Even though it was obvious he was one who killed it that night, great one of a kind vocals, great song writer the industry will see, they were just going in two different directions.

Yeah he did have to change the key. I saw him talking about it in an interview. He said he decided right off the bat, that he wasn’t going to try and even attempt to hit some of the Freddie notes because well,,there Freddie notes and not many people can.
That’s why he was their to practice everyday to get it right and sound good enough to give it Justice.
( the best vocalist of our time, and he was afraid of it being good enough)
George .. so modest but yet he’s the real deal that no one has a voice like him and at that time he didn’t realize it.

I was lucky to see George when he did his first ever live concert when he was in Wham when he first started. It was October the 9th 1983 in Aberdeen Scotland. It was the first night of the Club fantastic tour. I went with my cousin, her sister and her friend. I knew Whams music but wasn't a big fan. But when George started singing I couldn't believe how he was singing way better than on the records and had such a wonderful voice for someone who was just 20. He sang Careless Whisper for the first time ever at this show and for me it's the best bit of live singing I've had the pleasure to have seen live in all the concerts I've been to. So I'm proud to say I'm one of the first to ever hear it as it wasn't out till the summer of 1984. I think you should hear Queens original version of this song. Then you can tell just how amazing and wonderful Georges cover of it was and even dare I say it a bit better than Freddies version. George himself classed this as his best ever performance. And what makes this all the sadder is that Georges lover at the time was at the show and had just had a test for Aids. And they didn't know if he had it then. Sadly he did and died not long after. But George was still able even through sadness to steal the show with this wonderful performance. R.I.P George.

We've seen countless of great and large tributes to musicians we've lost along the way, but never before and since, was a tribute as massive as this one was.
Every self respecting singer who could make it, was there to show their love for Freddie.
The stadium was packed with 72.000 people who all were there to support the Aids awareness theme and show their love for Freddie.. and to do some mourning and remembering too.
And just like Live Aid, where Queen stole the show, this was broadcast to 76 nations around the globe, like i said.. we wont ever see a tribute of this scale ever again. (pretty dang sure of that)
To me that shows how big of an icon Freddie was, how beloved the music of Queen is in this world, the numbers dont lie!
And then we have this performance with George Michael, the performance that made me notice him as a incredibly talented singer (i never cared for his solo work, or his time with Wham till this performance).
And when Queen went back on the road after so many years... i wished George could've been part of that, he would've been a perfect fit for the band.
Highly, you have sold yourself short man, dive into Queen, and i mean DIVE.. start with the hits and then move to the lesser known songs, you'll find that most of their music could all have been released as singles and likely would've done well in the charts at the time.
Queen is one of those obligated bands for people who take music serious hehehe.

BTW, you mentioned in a previous George Michael reaction that people in the US only really know George for Faith, there's a reason for that. After the album Faith, George wanted to take his image and music in another direction, his record company, Sony, didn't, the contract George signed in 1988 was for 15 years and gave him little to no control over how he was marketed. After Anselmo died George dedicated himself to fighting Sony for musical and artistic freedom (his song Freedom 90 is all about breaking free from his Faith image and Sony). Anyway, long story short, Sony U.S. basically blacklisted George, so while here in Europe we were still getting George's music, the U.S. wasn't. George didn't write music for 5 years after Anselmo's death btw. Ultimately George lost the court case against Sony, but afterwards an 'arrangement' was made because the relationship had obviously soured and was unworkable.

Excuse me that’s a Queen song not a glee song! Theses people in Glee never sang an original song all covers, I’m sorry I take offence to that comment Queen were the the top of British bands and still remain so to this day.

This is nothing personal, but I'm always deeply shocked when people only know world-famous songs from commercials/TV or similar.
This is not "the Glee song", this is Queen's "Somebody To Love" perfectly performed by the legendary George Michael and the super group Queen.
    Who or what is "Glee"?
Of course I know what it is. ;-)
But George Michael and Queen are/were true giants and musicians of the century.

That evening he found out that his partner, Anselmo, was HIV positive.
Imagine singing at the The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, in memoriam to Freddie who died from AIDS, knowing that his partner got a death sentence.
